a Tarot / S&M crossover :: go figure

found this in an idle hour while chasing down Tarot references via Google. I imagine this link must have been pointed out here in these lists before, though I did a search and didn't find it. I thought I'd point this out... a sadism/masochism game has been contrived in which Tarot cards are used to determine the activity. approach this one armed with latex and a damp cloth...

There really isn't any deck - simply a game contrived with S/M connotations applied to the Rider.

On the other hand I do have a (rather poor) S/M/leathersex Tarot deck that is still attached to the leather mag that published it in the 1980s. If I removed it from the magazine, it would probably be worth nothing. Officially called 'The Uranian Tarot' ( I think) it was a bunch of mish-mash nudie pix juxtaposed with cutouts (no PC generated images at that time I guess) to form the Majors. Text was written by Moondog ( showing your age if you know who he is).

Example of best card = The High Priestess = 'Divine' in full drag between a white phallus and a black phallus. I think you get the idea.......

Corny. And I used to dabble in s/m.

Well ... it's an interesting premise, isn't it? But I would definitely say their correlations of acts to cards doesn't always seem intuitive to me.

Example? Well, the 8 of swords. Why would *that* be considered "erotic dancing" and not silk bondage and blind folding is BEYOND me.

You would also have to bit a bit versed in BDSM to really effectively use this method though. Safe, sane and consensual is essential for a Top and bottom to effectively perform these kinds of acts, and I'm glad they threw in a "this may not be for you, feel free to re-interpret" disclaimer. But, if you automatically discard certain concepts, then how effective is it as a Tarot reading? Doesn't it get to be like picking the outcome card you most want, and not necessarily getting a true Tarot "message"?

As for the article, the psychological effects of using dungeon lighting verses spectator sex that are discussed definitely betrays the author as someone who is well versed in BDSM lifestyle, and not the Hollywood ridiculous portrayal that many people associate with it. If Y/you're a dedicated Dom/me or sub, I think you would probably have fun using your deck to dictate new routines and sessions, but I don't know how *divinatory* it would be. I guess this would be one reading where the Erotic Tarot wouldn't seem out of place, eh ;)?

YEP! That's the one! If you saw the magazine that printed it (gay/leathersex j/o mag) , you'd understand it better. It was (say was, not is) a Brush Creek Media magazine but I'm not sure they are still in existance after an intense brush with the IRS a couple of years ago.

Yes, the scans at that link are from the copy in my personal collection. I haven't had any success locating the publisher thus far, but then again, I haven't tried all that hard. (It doesn't seem to be the sort of item a lot of people write to us to inquire about, for some odd reason -- LOL!)
