Feeling sick

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 23 Jan 2003, and now archived in the Forum Library.

I wanted this evening to do a really good reading (for the reading exchange). The last time I read I did a full meditation first, and the reading was excellent, felt really good, so I decided to do the same this time.

Opened my top chakra (by imagining it opening), and saw the white light come in a fill my body. Bit of a struggle for some reason this time. Finally out through my feet, and I was a conduit for light. Then surrounded myself in blue light, and counted back from 10-1.

Opening my eyes was hard, and then I felt sick. I did the reading, but somehow it wasn't the same. Maybe I should have stopped? Anyway, any thoughts welcome

I usually open from the ground and move upward. Sometimes I’ll start in the middle and work outwards.

But to open from the top first and move down-wards…

Now I know there are people who preach that…but it never made sense to me, it is not right, and yeah…it can make you ill.

Sounds like nothing really balanced inside with your current energy. Have you tried grounding & centering work? It's similar to chakras, but you pull from the earth into you.

Osher  23 Jan 2003
Thanks for that advice. I have always felt OK doing it until now.

Anyway ideas on how I can restore my natural balance, as I still feel a bit woozy (I even managed to start a new thread in a wrong area, just to prove it !)?

I would suggest..eat some bread..and put your hands on the ground...or hold a rock..that will help ground you.

on sociobiology, and two months ago there were a series of messages discussing some research pointing to side-effects of meditation on some people. From what I have understood, meditation and relaxation techiques seem to have strong and detrimental side-effects in some people. The statistic significance of the study was OK, but they did a very poor job trying to explain "why" that happens. I'm sorry I deleted it all, it would nice if I could post here a link.

This may or may not help, but how is your breathing technique when you meditate? Many people, usually those who are fairly new to meditation, get so excited as they are doing it they forget to breathe properly (I know this sounds silly, but it's true). If you start feeling dizzy or sick, check to see if you are breathing too quickly, or too shallow. Sometimes it helps to concentrate just on your breathing for 5 minutes or so at the beginning of your meditation session. It's also a good idea to check your posture or maybe even place your back flat against a wall to help.

I hope this helps :).

When you expose yourself to too much energy too fast, even if you are experienced, you should learn how to shut yourself down, something people never think about. (Similar to "Don't open a door you don't know how to close.")

If you find yourself feeling 'spacy' the best thing to do is ground yourself. This can mean different things to different people. Some suggestions:

- Take a warm shower and visualize the excess energy washing off you and down the drain.
- Go outside and touch the earth. Walk barefoot if you are able. Stand and visualize roots growing from your feet into the earth and grounding you.
- if you live near running water, walk in the water/stream/ocean and allow the energy to drain away.
- Hug a tree or rock. Sit on a stone outcropping.
- Eat- something you like- and savour the taste.
- Hold a chunk of smokey quartz or obsidian. Breath the excess energy into the darkness of the stone.
- take a stick, wand, wooden spoon, what-have-you and use it as a wand to channel the energy out of you into the ground where it can disappate and harm no one.

Tarotbear speaks excellent advice.

I agree with Umbrae!

I thank ThePowerThatBe first. Clear self by envisioning all shadows, dross passing from me to the center of Earth enclosed in cleansing Light to dissipate harmlessly. Then open to light from the bottom chakra first to top, balancing chakras with Light radiating in all directions; ditto from top to bottom. Clear auric fields with more Light. Ground by envisioning Light anchoring me to the center of the Earth via spinal column, splitting into three roots: spine, both legs. Seal personal boundaries with Light--no harm to in, no harm out. Draw Mother Earth energy up for the needs; raise consciousness to Father Sky & beyond. Then proceed to meditation. Usually in meditative state already before I finish prep, so grounding very important!

Thanks to all.

OK, so I imagine the light of mother earth, coming up, from my feet, and into me.

Should I still have the blue sword encasing me in protective blue light?

Should I still count down from 10 to 1, finishing up in a lovely place, feeling tranquil?

Sometimes I find it hard to open my eyes when I do this, is this normal, or am I going too deep? If so, is this dangerous?

Also, does this help with tarot reading?

A lot of questions I know, but I do want to do it right!. Thanks to everyone!!!

Sorry for these dumb questions but I feel I could get my grounding better if I understood better. That being said, I can't believe the extent to which grounding has all but cleared the spacey, disorientated feelings I've had for a very long time - on occasions to such an extent I wouldn't drive, and had to reach out to hold solid objects to get my bearings. Prior to this I thought I may have had a lingering viral ear infection - same symptoms as 3 of my co-workers [all of us burn out to cinders long ago].

1. Envisioning. Is this an inner feeling projected outwards? Or is it actually visualising a physical image of myself [in my mind's eye], surrounded by light? I've tried both but can't figure out which one is right. The former feels right but is very hard to do. The latter much easier.... but too easy? Am I over-complicating?

2. How do you seal personal boundaries with light?

Many thanks

HudsonGray  25 Jan 2003
It's ALL visualization, so use which comes most easily. Setting the boundaries with light is part of the visualization process, you just get as detailed as you want to get the actions set in your mind.

No need to overcomplicate--try things several ways, or come up with a new way. If seeing the light around you as a 'force field' works, use that. If you see it as a bubble, use that.

tarotbear  25 Jan 2003
Picture yourself in a bubble, like Glinda in the Wizard of Oz. When people talk about 'a circle' of light, it sounds like they are standing in a 'ring', but actually they are in a sphere that encases them, not a ring as in a circus tent.

One thing I have used many times is a 'coloured breath' technique. When you are outdoors on a cold day, you see your breath, right? Think along those lines that every time you exhale, you are creating a small cloud. As you continue breathing, the 'cloud' gets larger and larger, until you are surrounded, like being in a cocoon. You can envision different colors of cloud, too, such a green for healing, or pink for loving. Once you have completely surrounded yourself, 'maintaining' the cloud around you is actually very easy while you do meditation, healing work, what-have-you. You can also enlarge the cloud to encircle two people, or fill a room, if necessary.

Thank you, HudsonGray.
tarotbear - what a brilliant explanation/description - I think I've finally got it!

I would have to agree. I really like Tarotbear's idea of the cloud. Well my friends do say I have my head in the cloud! I really must try this.

Do you use this technique just for tarot reading, or does one use it all day every day, despite location and company?

Is there something that one should do before bed?

I would put the 'cloud technique' in the catagory of 'protection circles.' I do not usually cast a circle when tarot reading, but for doing meditations or energy workings, it fills the bill easier. You can sit at your desk and do a breathing exercise easier that walking around your cubicle casting quarters!]

I use this a lot when doing energy working. I form the cloud in white first, then 'add' whatever color is necessary. Once I change the cloud's color I can direct an energy beam through it, sending that color to the person intended. {Or, send them a little cloud of their own, whichever works for you}

You can expand the circle to surround your car when driving, protecting you from road hazards.

When you are done, simply allow the cloud to dissapate on it's own.
