a little story about the three of cups :)

Hello! Well, this is not really a question, just a little story for your amusement. Almost a fairy tale. This is going to be my theme card for the year...

After spending many weeks in self-imposed hermitage, I traveled a long distance from one city to another in Germany for an audition in an opera theater, and spent the night in a grimey hotel.

Not sleeping, and frustrated about my career, I decided to ask the Tarot "Wer hilft denn mir??" --who can help me????

I turned up the three of cups.

Then I shuffled the cards to do another reading, and turned up the Three of cups again. I thought -- okay, I just didn't shuffle the cards. So I started again.

The very next day, in my hotel I met the most beautiful delightful Italian speaking soprano, also on her way to that audition and in desperate need of an Italian to German translator to find her way to the theater. We were each sooooooooooooo delighted to meet eachother. She was happy to find someone to translate German into Italian for her, as she didn't speak even one word of German. I was delighted to have a friend! She helped me by making me go to the theater three hours earlier than intended! And when we got there, I found I had the wrong information about my audition time, so she saved my life!

Then at the theater, I met a singer whom I had not seen for 14 years! Someone who had sung in my hometown, who knew my family, etc. We were overjoyed to see eachother and fell into eachothers arms.

She spoke some Italian too, and was also delighted to speak with my Italian friend, so then three of us then stuck together; we supported eachother through the trial of the auditions, then accompanied eachother to the train, took the train together, helping eachother with all the logistics. I looked at the three of us, we had in just a few minutes become an inseparable trio, like the three ladies from the Magic Flute.... or like the three of cups!!

Okay, so then we separated, each traveling to different destinations. I got off in Hamburg, to catch my train to Berlin. The train was full, so I got in the dining car. I got tangled up with a distinguished gentleman in the doorway, there was only room for one to pass at a time. We helped eachother through the door. Suddenly he was helping me take off my coat.

An interesting woman was seated alone at a table. "Where shall we sit?" I asked the Gentlemen, as if suddenly "we" existed.

"Do you mind if I join you?" I asked the lady.
"Do you mind if I join you?" The Gentleman asked us both.

The woman had a bandage on one finger. "I see you are schwer verletzt" == severely wounded, said the gentleman to the lady.

She smiled and laughed. It seemed as though the two had known eachother forever.

As if we had all known eachother forever, the distinguished gentleman offered to buy us all wine.

And then, for the next three hours, there we were, three strangers, drinking red wine, talking politics, philosphy, love, teasing, flirting, and laughing our heads off -- together, toasting, celebrating. Three strangers, like old friends, like THE THREE OF CUPS. In Germany this is not common!!!

Two drawings of the three of cups, two groups of three celebrating in one day. Cute isn't it?

That is a delightful story.... and even drawing the three of cups may have helped... it may have made you mentally more receptive to the idea. Wonderful!

Maan  06 Feb 2003
wauw what a beautiful story.
Sometimes commen life is better that fairytales :)

Athara  06 Feb 2003
Amazing!

And Maan, you're totally right. Life can be better than faerietales, you just have to be open for it...

firemaiden  06 Feb 2003
Thank you Athara,
Thank you Maan,
Thank you Marion.

Its true, the cards made me more receptive all together. In the same reading, I asked for advice and got the tower. I took it to mean "leeeet goooooooooooooooo, crazy womaaaaan, let the uuuuuuuuuuuniverse take caaaaaaaaare of you...

MeeWah  06 Feb 2003
FireMaiden: Thanks for sharing your wonderful "little story"! I note that your card turned up twice, & there were 2 episodes that corresponded, too :)

When one is listening, seemingly random events become as blessings, "graced" by Universe!

I also see 3-Cups as the 3 Graces. From Greek Mythology, they are the three graces of joy, charm & beauty--Aglaia (Splendor), Euphrosyne (Mirth) & Thalia (Good Cheer). They are the daughters of Zeus & Eurynome, a nymph.

Eowyn  06 Feb 2003
See, Firemaiden? Everything in the universe conspired for you to had this experience ;). I think when one is more receptive, more "connected and syncronized" as I say, one can have this kind of experiences that make sence of being alive.

Laurel  06 Feb 2003
Firemaiden, think you so much for sharing this story. It just came at the right time and place for me today, and makes me re-appreciate how much the tarot tells us what we need to hear, even if we aren't quite tuned into the right frequency to understand immediately what we hear. *g*

Fire Maiden -- Were I you, I think I'd frame the little gem. What a delightful story.

Thank you, MeeWah, Laurel, Eowyn, and Red Emma. Thank you for reading it, and for letting me share with you!

Great story! :D

What I'd like to know is: Did this experience help you understand who lays the cards? ;)

firemaiden  06 Feb 2003
hahahahah Tom! You got me this time :P
(gnashing her teeth) I DON'T KNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!

P.S. You told me to ask the cards who lines them up, remember? The answer was the 7 of pentacles : labor, sewing seeds...which could either mean spending a lot of time with the cards, or something else with seeds I better not bring up here...or, it could be a divine joke from the divine trickster: what/who "lays the cards" is "getting laid" :D:D:D:D

Lovely stories, firemaiden !
Makes me think of when I was travelling on my own and I would often find total strangers I would have conversations with - deeper conversations often than with people you see everyday, as you only see their mundane side (unfortunately...I guess there is a lesson in that for me).
I did not draw threes of cups then, as I did not use tarot yet.

right on Firemaiden. Your story is awesome and inspiring. I really enjoyed reading it! Thank you for sharing!

What a delightful tale firemaiden! Reading of your travels reminds me of the brief times when I was also a traveller in Europe, and definitely in Germany (ahhh Bavaria!).

You can meet some of the most interesting strangers when travelling by train in Europe, swear to god. And, I would *swear* to you that I came across a few real-world angels the times I have travelled Europe -- they would somehow magickally appear (just like you did!) and help me when I was lost, or couldn't figure out how to make a phone call, or what have you.

I think it's fabulous that *you* were that real world angel to your Italian friend who needed you so desperately! What an incredible story!

How wonderful to come across your 3 cups thread! Ciao ciao!!
