I've been in the process of writing a fantasy trilogy, and I've been noticing a pattern in the characters and the themes of the story, but I haven't been able to follow it. Now, in the process of thinking of what I'd put in a tarot deck if I were to make one, I began to think of the characters in my novel as the Major Arcanas and Court card... and I finally figured out what the pattern was!
I'd been trying to put some sort of system into this world I'm making, and now that I'm learning Tarot, I realize what that system is! The themes in my novel is the concept of four elements, and the characters ARE the Tarot symbols. For example, my main character Iasthai is The Fool. If I follow through on this, I'm going to have a fantasy based on the truths of Tarot. I finally know where I'm going with this story!
Just wanted to gush about it. The cards have so many levels. :)
