There is a gypsy formula that was said over the cards before fortune-telling. It is quoted from "Gypsy Sorcery and Fortune Telling" by Charles Godfrey Leland and goes like that:
Ye are twenty-five cards
Become twenty-five devils !
Enter into the body, into the blood, into the soul!
Into the feelings of the body
Of my lover, from whom I cannot live.
For I cannot stand or drink
or eat
Nor can I converse with men or women
Till at the door of my house
He shall come to knock.
I know it is a bit weird but I wanted to share it :)

Tis kewl.
I don't recommend trying this one at home however. Especially if you're sincere. LOL. But convert those 25 cards to the 22 major arcana unless you have a 25 card deck, maybe invoke them as "daimons" instead of devils (way more helpful imo).... and get rid of the last half of the incantation so that you aren't setting yourself up for death via starvation/depression/broken heart... and wa la.

And talk about the LOOKS you'd get from the people you're reading for!
I wonder if you could substitute 'spirit of the cards' for devils?

in the Italian original it is of course "diavoli". That derives, as far as I do know, from "diabolos" which means "the one who throws things around" in Ancient Greek. Maybe that is helpful for adaptions ;)

Its a bit strange, cuz the incantation seems more like a chant to cause a lover to come to the door, instead of a chant you'd say to bless the cads before reading....
I have the book you're talking about, and must say it is wonderful!

uh "the one who throws things around"??? Pardon me...but i think that would hardly set up any mood for a reading. Sounds like someone throwing a tantrum!! :P

I like it. I have never heard anything like it before. I say a word over the cards when consorting with them. The word is "Yeseraye" I have no idea if I am pronouncing it correctly because it is Hebrew. It is said that Adam used this word to converse with angels and to get the correct answers when asking questions. I got the word from Moses's High Spirit Magick Art or the Six and Seventh Book of Moses. I find that saying this strange word (in an American accent, pronouncing it as it looks) seems to help me understand the reading better. Yeseraye means God without beggining God without End.
