I found Aeclectic last October as I was hunting for a Tarot Deck for a friend. I hadn't touched my own deck in about 10+ years. But since I had a deck, I started reading the forum. Then I joined. Well, then I found all the pretty photo's of all the decks. The pictures of the Alchemical Tarot were so classic and beautiful I just had to have it. And besides, my old deck just didn't speak to me any more! Then I thought I should have something more traditional so I bought the Universal Waite. But the Victoria Regina had fountain pens for wands and I love fountain pens. Then the Crow's Magic....
Last week I ordered the World Spirit and the Fey. AND I CAN'T WAIT TILL I HAVE THEM IN MY HOT LITTLE HANDS.
Is there a surgeon generals warning that accompanies this list? Joining is hazardous to your wallet and may lead to addiction.
I've got it.... potato chip syndrome.... you can't stop at one....

Can completely relate. I slobbered over the images of Anna Franklin's decks until I finally had them, and I'm impatiently awaiting Joseph Martin's Quest Tarot. Yes, joining this forum and seeing this site will most likely get a person hooked. ;)

uhhhhh...we have a name for what you describe and the syndrome is called tarot-holism. our ranks are legion. i can sign you up for the support group-TA-tarot-holics anonymous. we're only anonymous in the sense we only know each other by our net names for the most part. we never talk each other out of decks. we encourage you to buy all that you want. falling off the wagon means you've stopped buying decks. we are the anti-thesis of normal 12 step programs. there is no cure but the syndrome is only fatal to your bank account. we are all terrible enablers of this dire addiction. continue this forum at your own peril! bwahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12 Steps of the Tarotholic
1. Hmmm... Tarot... now I wonder what that's all about...
2. Hey! Aeclectic Tarot! What an interesting looking web site... and such interesting discussions!!
3. Well... I suppose I'd better get a Tarot deck if I'm going to look into this... I know I've seen that "Riding Waste" thing at the bookstore.
4. I'll just post a "howdy" message in the "New Members" forum...
5. What? The Aeclectic Tarot web site has pictures of other Tarot decks? There's over 300??????
6. What do you mean I've been looking at these decks for 7 hours??? So? Get your own supper!
7. The Tarot Garden?????? Whoa! Cool!
8. Okay... I wonder which deck I should get next... maybe I'll just post the question in the "Tarot Decks" forum....
9. Wow... most of these people actually own and use many different decks?
10. Okay... I'll just pick up the Spiral Tarot... And I keep hearing about this Röhrig Tarot.... may as well get the Victoria regina too...
11. Oh! The Goddess Tarot is sooooo beautiful! Oooh neat! This one's got Dragons!!! I just Dragons!!! My goodness... this Thoth Tarot just feels soooo powerful... Wow! I still love my RWS, but the colors in the Universal Waite Tarot are so much nicer. I suppose I should get at least one "historical" deck... I'll just start with the Grimmaud Tarot of Marseilles....
12. What do you mean I'm overdrawn?????
:joke:  :joke:  :joke:  :joke:

Since I have joined Aeclectic, I have added three decks to my collection! I have many on my wish list still. Currently, I have the Voyager, Diamond Tarot, Universal RW, Nigel Jackson, and Old English. I love them all :D
I have gained a new appreciation for tarot decks and using the tarot from this site. I have spent hours looking through the 300 decks online here, too!

Trogon,
ROFLMAO!!! I so identified with that post and the whole thread. I have only been studying since october and i am up to 6 decks, with two more just ordered yesterday, because (1)no one wanted to trade or sell for half price (damn!) and (2) i was only going to get one but i could not make up my mind, so i bought them both. Sound familiar??
Of course i had to buy silk bags, so my new decks wouldn't feel left out that they didn't have a nice place to sleep when i wasn't using them.
And what about the subject of books????
Woof, join the ranks of the doomed, your in damn fine company. Our credit cards may be maxed out, and we are nearly blind from staring at the computer for hours, and have the beginnings of carpal tunnel, from all the furious typing; but our souls soar free and unfettered, on the light and wisdom gained from our inner voice helped out by our many decks

Hum, right, well, if you start feeling these symptoms, you're totally doomed. :D

Some people say there is such a thing as too many decks. That's why Aeclectic has a "Trading" section. When you acquire new decks so fast that you are constantly either rearranging your collection or buying bigger bookshelves, there is a danger. You must be very careful when moving them. Sometimes your hot little hands are so sweaty you can't hold onto them. Some will fall and land on your big toe. At this point, you will need to trade some. Please do not hesitate to trade your decks, the possibility of danger associated with moving masses of Tarot decks on a regular basis is VERY REAL.

Woof...this is precisely what happens.
My huge collection of decks is testamony to the phenomenon. And I'm a piker compared with many of the folks in here.
You may have to consider getting used to it.
And think of the wonder and joy of all the beautiful decks you'll aquire! Oooh! Fun, fun! (And there are new ones published every year...)
Not helping much, am I...

this thread is so funny. Thanks to all of you that have posted such great (and so true) replies.
I picked up reading again since December. Since, I've acquired 4 decks. My last deck I bought a month ago and I've been working with it so well, that I haven't been using the other decks, nor any desire to buy new decks. Ok, well, that's not COMPLETELY true. I would like the Cosmic Tarot by Norbert Losche (english version only) for it's beautiful art work, and the devil card is just amazing! In any case. I seriously doubt I will pick it up anytime soon since I only want it for the art work.
I found that once I had a deck that REALLY spoke to me in VOLUMES, I didn't need any other decks. Keep looking though, and like another said here, if you find you have too many, perhaps you could exchange, or just sell them too at a discounted price.

I GOT IT, I GOT IT, I GOT IT!!!
The mail man came today and left me a little present.
The World Spirit Deck!
Very pretty, my newest lovely! Didn't work with it too much; minor migraine here. So colorful it hurt to look at it. Did a new deck reading which I'll post for input on the your readings forum probably tomorrow.
Gettin' the Fey in a couple of weeks.

I must confess that I have somewhat fallen off the wagon ... I just got so dissapointed with the last several buys (with the exception of the LS Fey Tarot), that I shut down and quit adding decks.
The punishment for this crime you ask? well of course it was for my dear friend and sister Faunabay to go digging around and find some quality decks to revive my zeal for tarot purchases. I am still ailing, and very afraid that someone has spread an airborne cure to taro-holism but under the gentle loving care of Faunabay and Truthsayer I hope to be back to normal soon.
So the punishment, in a nutshell, is nurturing from your wonderful fellow tarot-holics. Mind you my Tarot-Gollumness has also suffered the impact ... I actually traded 4 or 5 decks for non-tarot things ... this is not natural.

Need??Somebody say need?? Need decks? Who, me? I've got plenty of decks.
............well, maybe just a little one, a small one, since I'm in the neighborhood. A Hanson-Roberts, maybe. Nothing major, just another little deck, and another and another, and then a bigger one just to break the monotony.....proves I'm not hung up on little decks, I need big ones too..
Need? somebody say need..........nah, I musta heard wrong..nobody here needing any decks, must be an echo or something, nobody here but us chickens, boss.
I just can't imagine what you people are talking about. :D :D

I can relate to this. The few last days I´ve ordered The Sacred Circle Tarot( just because I LOVE The Fairy Ring and wanted to see Anna Franklin´s other deck),The Fey Tarot of course,Waking the Wild Spirit Tarot because of the nature theme, and faeries in it too,and ,lastly,I no longer could resist Whimsical Tarot(with book),already have, and love,Inner Child Cards.
Now I plan on sewing some pouches, and spread clothes
,and I should decorate a box before they arrive. So much fun!
I know my main deck will still be The Faeries´Oracle, though.

Thoth Tarot Deck is very unique..but RW is the original deck and many other decks are copies with different patterns from RW. I like Fantastical Tarot Deck the most..very real and unique!!

coldsuns: The RW deck is not the original deck. It is a modern deck when it comes to Tarot. Have a peek at the Historical and Iconographical Forum for more news on Tarot decks that date back hundreds and hundreds of years.
Woof: all I can do is sigh with delight as I see another member falling to the charms of Aeclectic and Tarot. By the way, the only cure is absolute cold turkey, but don't try! Enjoy your addiction. :)

coldsuns: Don't be sorry! :) You're not the first person nor the last to think that the RW deck is the original one! However, it has a certain originality when compared to the more traditional decks, so in a way, it is original!

I had a passing interest in Tarot. I never really believed that I could ever do a Tarot reading -- Then I joined Aeclectic Tarot Forum and purchased my first deck -- Celtic Tarot and now 6 decks later I'm looking at the Triple Goddess as my next acquisition, and then maybe Fairy Ring and then maybe Herbal Tarot and then , and then, and then.......................................
Do you think I'm addicted ?????
