Yesterday Purplelady and I were discussing the Voyager Tarot and she mentioned "you can tell it's made by a man" because of it's masculine undertones. That got me thinking of how many of my decks were made by females compared to how many were made by males. Out of my 32 decks 22 are made by females and 10 were made by males. Hmmmm....that was interesting. I thought alot more my decks were made by males for some reason. When I buy I deck I just by it because I like it, not because of what gender created it. I was curious what percentage of other Aeclectian's decks are created by male or female.
Blessings,
Momof3girls
P.S. I wonder if males have more decks created by males in their collections??? hmmm....

Interesting question...
I too buy decks simply because I like them, not because of who has created them or whether the creator is male or female.
Here are my "statistics" for my 24 decks:
11 decks created by a male/female pair
8 decks created by females
5 decks created by males
I don't see any of my decks as particularly male or female, by the way.

I only have two deck -- one in nouveau style by a woman [i think} one in b/w woodcuts by a man [i know].
This spurs me to mention a recent thought of mine. Would a deck only showing female characters till work? -- one only showing men?

Well, the problem is, do you mean painted by a man/woman or designed and painted by a man/woman or designed by a man/woman? After all, both RW and Thoth decks were designed by men but the art was done by women. Does this make them "male" or "female" decks?
I will say this--I DO know when a man has designed an erotic deck as compared to a woman (certain, um, parts are often impressively large in such decks)--and I *sometimes* know when a deck was done by a man if it involves computer composite photos as compared to just art--but that may just be because there aren't a lot of women designing composite art tarot decks.
However, if it's just fine art...I really don't thing that's so easy to distinguish. As for my collection...I'll have to run though it, but I think it's male or combo heavy (male/female partners creating the deck).

I guess I just meant the person that designed the decks since I didn't take into consideration who painted them when I figured out my decks.

O.K. I do not buy tarot decks because they are created or painted by one gender or the other. I don't really even think about it. Except I got the Voyager recently, and have used it a few times. And I feel a masculine energy from the deck. It is "composite art" (collage). It feels different than most of the decks I've used before. It feels as though the creator THOUGHT the cards , or used thought in the art NOT so much feeling or intuition. Difficult to explain. He thought and put them together from the outside not the inside . I find them an interesting psychological tool. It's as though he pasted all these images together that symbolized the meaning of a particular tarot card. But I'm not sure they are tarot!

I think there was a thread a while ago about this, and I tried an experiment, seeing if people could actually tell whether a man or woman created the deck, just by looking at a few cards.
I'm useless at searching these forums... Does anybody know where that thread is?
