I have my second Tarot workshop coming up tomorrow evening, and I'm a little nervous... The topic is 'Deeper into the World of Tarot' and I'm running out of ideas! Y'see, last workshop, I gave what we might call a crah-course in Intuitive Tarot reading, and covered practically everything one might need ot know about reading Tarot, choosing, buying, shuffling, and storing decks, dealing with tough clients/questions, interpreting the cards... I did everything except go into the meanings of the cards themselves, since I think that the people in the w/shp can do that themselves in their own time instead of us going through lists of keywords for hours on end... Plus I have been focussing on promoting intuitive reading.
Does anybody have any ideas that I could include in later workshos?I'm considering doing an Evening of Tarot Spreads, which is all about... Tarot Spreads, and might go or one focussing on Healing with the Tarot, and maybe one about Tarot for Fun. After that, I'm lost!

Kiama: WOW--the first workshop sounds very comprehensive in itself! How long is this second workshop projected to be? Tarot Spreads sounds great as a focus of discussion. Ye can start with the one-card, & work the way on up to the larger spreads. Do ye incorporate hand-outs? That can be cost-prohibitive, depending on how much material is involved, but is good to give a sampling of what is available & possible. Perhaps another workshop can deal with numbers?

Maybe you could do one about the different methods which people use to learn the card meanings;
Numerology and suits
Astrological correspondences
key words eg. the Joan Bunning tarot course
Meditation on the images
drawing a card per day and looking for that cards effects in your every day life
Entering a card and interacting with the characters therein.
Elemental dignitries.
There`s actually enough there to cover more than one workshop probably, depending on how long you`ve got for each workshop.

I don't know if you already did this ( or something like this)...but on a great workshop i have once been to, they let you pick a card.
This card was used to enter it and then we draw what we had seen "in" the card. So in the end we had a complete deck together. Its was great to see the the different ideas and here the people explain what they had drawn.
And to make sure people were not affraid to draw because they believe they can't you could show the deck by rachel pollack...shinning tribe or something i thought its called. But i have now doubt that you have that one in you collection ;)
Good luck with you workshop

Thanks for all your suggestions!
Last night's workshop went really well: There were around 12 people there, and we covered Tarot history, theories on how it works, methods of interpreting the cards, methods of getting to know the cards, tough questions such as 'What was I in a past life?' and 'Does God exist?', and half way through, everyone paired up and had a go at the different methods of interpreting cards: Intuitive, memorised, and Gestalt/Interactive'.
We are now also planning on having workshops on creating your own deck, and creating a collaborative deck eventually.
The entering the card idea is a great idea for a workshop, which was brought up in last night's workshop as something people would definitely be interested in.
Next workshop is on the 26th of March, whcih will be my Evening of Tarot Spreads workshop, going through different types of questions and suggesting spreads which would work best for those questions, aswell as things such as how to create your own spreads and how to prepare for a reading, etc... I have also worked out how to put spreads onto a handout and make it look really professional (I'm useless with IT!) so I can do some handouts for that.
I'm hopefully doing a Runes For Divination workshop soon too.
Gosh all these exciting things!

Kiama,
I want to go to that workshop!! As far as I know there is nothing like that around here. I always seem to miss out on the cool stuff.

Take a deep breath.
Public presentations can play havoc with your system.
Nervousness, can make you ‘go’, just a little faster than normal…and you end up covering more than is necessary, and the quality of the content gets lost in the quantity.
I come from a background of almost twenty years of public speaking and presentations in various forms, I still get nervous.
Audience participation can move a presentation into a sharing ‘workshop’ mode, as long as you don’t give up control.
Here’s a thought for you…
Have a person take a chocolate. It does not matter which kind. Have them clear their mind…wipe it clean…enjoy first the aroma of the chocolate…then, take a bite of chocolate; tell me the first thoughts that enter…
Take notes and have them describe the scenes in their mind.
What you get, are “awake dreams” you may want to look into a couple of dream interpretation books.
Btw: This stuff is hot and huge. It provides a pre-reading reading, even if you do not interpret their images out loud to them, you know what is going on inside their little brain.
Slow down – Enjoy

I agree it could be easier for the members to go over their list at home, but I would suggest taking a deck, have each person draw a card from the deck have them meditate on the card for about 5 minutes then allow each person to orally express what they see in the card. This may be a real eye opener for some of the members who may not be as "creative" in their way of thinking. By allowing them to vocalize the meaning in front of each other, they are learning to express their intuition, while confronting the fear of public speaking. Once they realize their is no right or wrong "definition" for the card, they may become more relaxed which will enhance their learning ability. Have fun with it!

It's wonderful to witness Kiama College of Tarologie being born. :D
I wish I could attend. ;)
For a spreads session why not include making your own? That's about as intuitive as you can get. Make up a spread to answer a difficult question.
