I need to know very quickly are there 4 suites in the minor arcana I think it is 4 but i am not to sure lol please help thankyou

HudsonGray  26 Mar 2003
Yes, the standard tarot deck has 4 suits--Cups, Wands, Swords & Pentacles. There are a few nonstandard decks that have a fifth suit (usually Spirit or Aura).

Hudson, what are the non-standard decks with 5 suites? I'll avoid them -.-!!

Just changed my statement.

Kiama  27 Mar 2003
Coldsuns: I don't think Hudson said there are five non-standard decks, but that there are a few non-standard decks with 5 Minor Arcana suits.

The only one I can think of right now is the Deva Tarot, but no need to avoid this beautiful deck: You can simply take out the extra fifth suit (Triax).

The deck has more than 78 cards coz of the xtra Spirit/Aura suite?

Yep. Here's a few links for you to take a look at it:

The cards have a very strong India's culture pictures. And they are in square. A very unique type!

There's absolutely no reason to avoid decks with an extra suit! They expand out the possibilities for you, they don't make anything worse. The suit of aura or spirit often shows spiritual sides to things, which can really expand upon a reading. That's why some deck artists went with the extra suit.

The New Vision Tarot by O'Dell and Shandra is one that uses the suit of aura. I've seen several in the deck selections on the main Aeclectic board too. Any non-oracle deck with 100 cards or so has an extra suit.

They're rare, but they are out there. There's no need to shy away from them. The hard part is finding one, actually, since it's non-standard.

Wow square tarot cards...

Does anyone actually read with the Deva tarot?

Whats it like having a 5th suite? Kinda flaunts Marseille tradition in its face, huh?
