A fan of Amber Tarot or Vertigo Tarot would have different comments...does anyone want to post their picks, likes...

I don't have the collection glories that many others have...but I do have a bent for decks that go with very strong cultures of the past or rather good books.

Here's a few:

Romeo and Juliet Tarocco ( I hope to do a review soon for Aeclectic if the other writers here have not...)

Tarocchi di Maria Matteo Boiardo -- too odd for most, only good if you are a historical Fererra court and literature fan

Some of the Celtic/Arthurian decks.

The newest....an anniversary gift and hopeful joy...the price has gone down on Alidastore.com and there are more cards posted. The style is very much like Trevisan's Romantic and Renaissance decks and it a very large deck---about the size of the Giant Rider Waite or the large Del Negro Romeo and Juliet Tarocco:

Alessandro Manzoni Tarocchi
1985 Anniversary Edition to celebrate the
anniversary (200th?) of the Betrothed

www.alidastore.com...last page (10).

Anyone see the above or have comments on your favs?

Mari H.

I'd love to see a less expensive, handy carrying size edition.

(1) My favourite deck based on a book is the Crowley's Thoth deck based on, and released a number of years after the publication of, the Book of Thoth.

(2) Literary theme decks don't always work. The Shakespearian Tarot (Ashcroft-Novicki) is such an example. The theme of a given card doesn't fit naturally with the card's divinatory meanings. A lot of study of the LWB and the cards is needed before the deck could ever be used for readings. The cards are not very intuitive. This is not an out-of-the-box deck.

I have two decks based off of books.

Lord of the rings - based off the series "Lord of the Rings" by J.R. Tolkien.

The Faeries Oracle - based off the faeries in "Good Faery's and Bad Faery's" by Brian Froud

My faery oracle deck is the one I mostly use out of my entire collection (a good 5 decks or so).

Great post!

I have the legend:arthurian tarot and it is absolutely lovely!

I think it is based off at least some of Malory's Morte D'Arthur's tales, so in that sense it is book based. :-]
