Recently I have had lots of "blanks" when reading the cards, especially ones for myself. I don't know if the answer is simply to
give them a rest for a while , or do something more radical like go and get a new deck (!). I only say this because I notice that when
faced with the "challenge" of a new spread I usually do ok with it : as though it injects new life into what I am doing (does that make sense?) I feel that I need to be able to see the cards I know from a new perspective......because somehow I'm getting bored/ not concentrating , and hence the blanks.

Hi, Samantha! I began studying tarot in 1988, and between then and now I have had several episodes (lasting months) of blankness/feelings of burnout. The wonderful thing was, inevitably my passion for the cards returned, and I found -- to my delight -- that it was a stronger and more knowledgeable person who picked them up again. So I urge you not to worry about the phase you are in. You truly might just need to experience the energies of a new deck -- or you might need a little break from the cards for awhile. I believe that what we experience as burnout and blankness is really the need for mental and emotional assimilation and "metabolism" of what we have learned, which is why we eventually return to the cards stronger than ever.

Yeah, im experiencing a bit of a burn-out myself, lately (my first one!), but thanks to the good folks here at Aecletic i know Ill be able to come back to it soon. My advice is to not worry too much (im not worrying) and when you feel an urge to look at ur tarot cards again (naturally, not forced) then u've passed the burn-out phase!

I think your both right. I'll give then a break for a while , and see how I feel in another couple of weeks. However , before I turned the key I drew a final , final card : 10 wands . Enuf said.
