Hi all,
We have pockets..lol..
Red Ruby Slipper and Major Tom asked about a spread cloth with pockets..well this is the 1st chance I have to sit and chat (so I probably missed a few really good threads)..so here it goes..
My 1st proto type of a cloth with a pocket never got photographed (I don't own a digital camera-poor excuse) so I could not post it. The pocket was in the middle of the cloth..it wrapped kinda like you would wrap a baby..
Ruby suggested that I put the pocket in a corner, WOW why didn't I think of that...
I will make proto type II this week and beg my friend to photograph it and post it...
OK so here are some rambiling thoughts.. I did mine in velvet with a cotton back and cotton pocket, this way when you use the cloth to read, you cant feel the pocket. I wrapp it with a ribbon. I have not tried it with all cotton but will this week - all cotton would fold smaller and probably be a lot more cost effective. Should the ties be attached or sepperate?...
Let me know if you have any suggestions...
Blessings and thanks for the inspiration..

I think I'd sew the ties to the cloth itself so that they wouldn't get lost when the thing is in use (outdoors or such). How about a second pocket for flattened marbles/stones that some people use to keep the cards from being blown in the wind?

Hi everyone...
So heres the deal..
The final cloth is aprox. 18-1/2 x 19-1/2 give or take a little..
It has a large pocket for your deck with ribbon to tie it in, and a small pocket for stones (with a ribbon or velcro - I like the ribbon). The large is in 1 corner and the small in the other..the openings face in...THis is in the lower part of the cloth..in the upper right hand side is the ribbon to tie the whole thing together when folded..
When you have the solid side up (for reading) the pockets are at the bottom...then just flip it up...put your deck and stones in and just keep rolling...
the way it is tied it, you see the pattern side up and has if you can do it a nice ribbon bow..
The other thing I was thinking of experimenting with is cording and beads...I have an awsome print with animals on it..I think it will get the bead treatment...
I should have a few done by the end of the week and pix by this weekend...
I am hoping to sell them for between $12 and $15 .. what do you think...
Blessings,
Cj

Sounds great! But you might consider a pattern-less version, for people who find it too distracting (like me :P).

SOUNDS WONDERFUL.....$12-15...sounds like a great deal. I know what the fabric and time is worth...making and selling to friends for the love of it is great....but don't sell yourself short to the rest of the world....You can get more for these handmade clothes. I've done velvet/satin jester hats for years. The pattern has MANY pieces and I sold them for LESS than the ones I found later made out of limpy cotton and no change in fabric....generic pattern etc. I found that the general public is willing to pay MORE, more means better to them(?).....

Hi,
Just a few answers...and a question..of course..
Athara,
The cloths are 1 solid color on 1 side ( I prefer black or a dark color myself..)..BUT if you want 2 solid colors or a print that is kinda like faded look or color on color on 1 side and a true solid on the other..OR solid and solid..It can be done.. Thes are all handmade so what you want is usually what I try to do,
As far as selling to general public..when I get the size and template for the pockets down I'll refigure my cost..for now I'm experimenting.. (wont go over $15 though...unless the material warrents it)...
OK now the question..I read on a black cloth..my 1st prototype..I have to keep...is burgandy..not bad, not very distracting..
WOULD you read on a light color...I have an awsom animal print..that is prodominently taupe and beige..with black lines...Is a taupe solid back ok..or should I go dark and use black???

CJTarot--I know they're meant to be rolled & tied, but think about maybe a cloth tube to slide them into, so the ribbons don't untie or such. Some people like a whole 'contained' system. Not necessary for everyone, but some may like the idea of it so if they stick this in a purse or backpack, the bindings won't come undone.
Just my 2 cents, not necessary to really do if you don't like it.

Hudson,
What would you rather have..a lined bag that has a flap and say velcro or a simple non lined bag with the drawstring right at the top?
I can do either..but my worrie is it will drive the cost up..
I have 8 cloths started..will photo them this weekend and post, hopefully, but mon. or tuesday...
The next project is polortec lap "magic blankets"..when folded they look like pillows, when unfolded, they are perfect lap size blankets (my feet get cold when I'm the puter..had to come up with a solution..lol)...I think it would be pretty good for my aunt too who is in a wheelchair part of the time..
Well, I'm off to sew..have a great day

The second sounds easier (velcro in the purse gets 'dirtied up' eventually & doesn't stick as strongly). But they're probably not necessary for most people. Just thought I'd mention it for those who like to backpack, carry stuff to school/university jammed in with the books, and travellers who haul stuff around a lot. My sig. other has a backpack that weighs about 40 pounds, stuffed with so much gunk! My purse is so small I can hardly get the checkbook out. But there's everything in between too.

Hi,
Ok next addition to the test bunny spread cloths.. I was thinking about what Hudson Gray said about the ribbon coming untied so this is what I thought I'd try. I am gonna add an elastic type closure with a snap.
The animal print will be the first, the print just doesnt warrent a bow so here's how it will work..sew the elastic onto some black ribbon and and where it snaps ad a square of some kind with beads and/or design.
Blessings,
CJ
