Hello all: I was reading a thread today and Umbrae had recommended to a novice that he/she not do more than one reading a week for himself/herself. Which made me wonder how many of you do not heed that advice and do some form of daily spread. Recently, I have been doing a three card spread religiously and tracking the cards in a log sheet that I copied from The Tarot Handbook. It is fascinating to see which cards and suits come up time and time again. So, do you or don't you, that is the question.

I do it as much for a study aid in learning the cards as in a method of divination. Ask what wisdom should I keep in mind for the coming day.

I do this exact same thing, for the exact same reason.

I religiously do my daily card with the Faeries Oracle, but where Tarot is concerned I don't do "daily" spreads ... so I voted never. I do tarot spreads when I have a question I want to explore further using the tarot.

I would love to devote at least half an hour per day to Tarot study, especially that of spreads, but as it is I barely have time to brush my teeth. *rolls eyes at self*

Ditto for me as well. It's a great way to get comfortable with the cards. And I'm amazed how some cards don't seem to need to be involved with me while others are continually trying to teach me something. As for time constraints (Demonesse), I too don't always get to pull a deck out in the morning. So I do the spread in the evening and see if I took the path that the evening spread indicates I might have considered.
Today's spread (Thoth deck, body mind spirit) Princess of Cups 5 of Cups Queen of Cups.....see what I mean!

I started doing it whenever I thought I might have a rough day at work. I started journaling them, and I have really learned a lot.

I try to pull a card every day, but I don't always have the time. I do it partly for just a hint at my lesson for the day, and partly to get to know the cards better. Right now I'm changing decks each month, exposing myself to all the decks I've collected thanks to this forum. :P

One daily card a day for me....
Just a heads-up for the day ahead! :)

3 cards a day.......
The middle card is the theme for the day, cards 1 & 3 are the surrounding energy. I also journal the next morning and see how the cards played out or not in the day before. Somedays, I write "clueless".
My first tarot mentor taught me to do this every morning. She said, just do it when your having your coffee. It has been a great learning tool and I too, am fascinated to have kept the journal and see what cards repeat, or what cards disappear when I've moved on to something else.
I just keep it all on a daily calendar.
I've made a committment to keep a journal for all of 2003, so the tarot is now part of that committment....last year I just kept track of the daily 3 cards.
PS Lawguy....loved the first chapters of your book, can't wait to read the rest.....thanks for putting the "tease" on your site!

I pull a daily cover and cross - two cards which I record in my journal. I also ask the question - what will the day bring? I've found it an invaluable practice - it gives me information I find useful throughout the day.
I voted religiously - but I do miss days out from time to time.

I have just recently started(2 days ago!) doing daily readings and am amazed at the energies it gives me. I have found that with single card draws the meanings of the cards become so much more powerful. I also keep a tarot journal religiously... now if only I could do that with my normal diary :-p

i rarely do spreads at all. just one-card a day. and that is not every day.
i do my daily tarot-meditations, just a few minutes each day but that is not for divination.
i really don't do actual readings for myself more then a few times each year.

Here's a suggestion for those on the sporadic kick....
Just grab a card in the morning when you head off for your daily duties. You do not 'have to' study it. Just throw it in your pocket. See what happens. :D

It gets creased, folded, spindled, mutilated... ;) Too much stuff in my pockets as it is... (ever see the movie "Hatari"? Think Red Buttons' character...)
I do a daily 3-card spread, though I voted "sporadically". This is because I find that sometimes, after doing my daily 3-card reading for a couple of weeks... I just need a break from these self-readings. Kind of get... well ... mentally stuffy I guess... So, I lay off for a week or two. I'm in the middle of one of my lay-offs right now... :D Will be back at it next week probably...

I've been pulling a card a day since June last year. Most of the time I just write down what I see in the card, and as my day goes on I try to find examples of the card's meaning in real-life situations.

I have been doing a 3-card spread almost every weekday for the last 2 years, as part of my morning meditation & study. I *really* look forward to doing these, as it centers my spirit and provides that uplifting mystical buzz and connection I crave. I really miss that cosmic connection if I can't do a Tarot reading/study due to being busy and mired in day-to-day affairs. At least Aeclectic is always there to perk me up and provide my Tarot "fix"!

I voted sporadically although I do try to do a single card draw every day. I`ve just got the Thoth deck so I`m going to try to be a bit more disciplined as I`d love to really learn this deck.

every morning i do a non-spread of three cards for that day. ( no specified position, i just 'read' them as it comes to me). i always journal.
i do other readings for myself, generally no more than once a month.... and they last for at least a month too! to do more readings or have others read for me more often then that, seems to take away from the original reading.

I voted for "Religiously, every day" since I work with a daily card though at times more than one card results. The draw serves as a means of guidance for the day; an alert or a warning.
Occasionally, I have noticed that the cards seem to refer to the next day rather than the current day. There is usually a feeling that accompanies the card(s) that gives the distinction.

Hi Ruby Red Slippers: I'm delighted you took the time to read the chapters from my website. I'd love to hear your thoughts when you've done reading the whole thing. Oh, and thanks in advance for buying a copy! (even if you haven't yet!)

never even considered the daily card, spread etc too busy... wow, y'all are very disciplined. I've been pretty happy w/at least one in depth celtic cross per week. It takes about an hour, sometimes over. Journalled from the get go.

I was doing a three card spread every day in the evening as a way of reflecting on the events of the day. But just lately I've got bored with tarot and can hardly bring myself to look at the cards so I voted that I used to but not now.
It's a very odd feeling not to want to handle my cards. I wonder if it is because I have too many decks so I can't decide which ones to use, or what. Maybe this belongs in a different thread ...

I think you can burn out on any activity that you do intensely over a long period of time. I've been waiting for the same thing to happen to me. I wouldn't be concerned, though. One day you'll wake up and the urge to grab a deck and do a spread will hit you. After all, what does Tarot teach us but the effects of imbalance in our lives and the value of balance.

This is exactly what I do too.
I voted religiously since I do the daily spread a lot more than sporadically. But I think religiously implies you do it with a sense of duty ? This is not the case for me - I really like doing this spread but sometimes i just do one card and now I have a few more spreads I am going to experiment with.
I have decided if I don't enjoy it anymore I stop doing daily spreads for a while. Maybe I like it because I don't pressure myself at all. I find though that the cards are not always related to that day, but more to the phase I am going to in general, but maybe that is because at the moment I am going through some important changes, that have a bigger impact on me than day-to-day events.

Well, I have in the past tried to do the Daily Draw thing religiously, bt never had the time nor patience... Now however, since 4 days ago, I have started again, mainly cuz I have this gorgeous notebook which I wanna fill up with Tarot stuff... And I'm finding it very helpful! I pull one card in the morning, or whenever I have time, and keep it out all day, finding a few minutes in between other tasks to just sit down with it, look at it, and write down my impressions, etc, and then at the end of the day, or the next day, I write down why I think that card got pulled instead of any other.
Gosh I wish I'd done this sooner! (Voted religiously BTW, though only religiously for the past 4 days!)
