What a Wonderful Place

Well, it is isn't it? Aeclectic is possibly the most resourceful and interesting tarot web sites I have ever visited. And so many interesting people, each with something valuable to say. Ofcourse, there are those whom I have read many posts; Umbrae, and Diana etc. These people are truly fascinating to read. There have been many nights when I have sat infront of my PC, having just fed the cats, poring over the many interesting tarot comments. In this sense, Aeclectic is like a treasure to me. I have only recently decided to join, as I feel like, I too, could be like Diana etc, and make a worthwhile contribution to the forum.

I would be keen to hear what Aeclectic means to each of you. What brings you here? Why do you think Aeclectic is so wonderful?

DeLani  02 Mar 2003
I wholeheartedly agree!
Aeclectic is a one-of-a-kind resource - a place where Tarotists from all over the world can come together and share knowledge and insights. Better than any book, believe me!
Also, where you can see pix of hundred of decks...and where you can post your readings for others' feedback...I could go on and on. I recommend this site to all my students. It's great.
Thanks Aeclectic!

Very interesting. Never really thought about what keeps me comin, why I'm so drawn. Although the answer is easy enough.

I was first brought here by my sister, Alissa. At first it was, she comes here and chats sometimes, so I thought, oh cool, a way that I can talk to her more often. I do read, and have been reading cards for years, but at first, wasn't all that interested in the forums. Just came here to chat is all. Then, well, not all the time was she here, and I was bored, so I said, ok, why not, let's read some. So I did, and I was just pulled in by either the familiarity of what was being said, the insight that I was finding to further grow as a reader, or the feeling that if I posted my reply to this person's question, maybe I can be of help, help them get some insight on their dilemma. Then, I got my own questions, and started posting them. Soon after, I got the Faery Oracle Deck by Brian Froud, and joined the study group here for the deck.

What keeps me drawn in is there is always something new to read, a new post, threads, etc. There is also the chat which usually a bored soul can find one or two people almost always hangin out there. And if nothing else, then you can start pokin around to look at other decks, or also, offer some readings (after 25 posts) and busy your time that way.

Not many people do things repetively if their not getting something out of it. Mostly I get insight on how to better myself as a reader, and I feel like I can give this back in helping others, which are both important to me.

What about you Elvis?

It alleviates my boredom - variety is the spice of life! There are many wonderful people here, who do make you feel cared for, as well as the mirabilia of new posts to read, practically one every minute.

Be warned though - you WILL find yourself spending far too much on decks than you can really afford...muahahaha.

Elvisisnotdead  02 Mar 2003
Well, chickens what can I say :) I have found much insight on these boards. I find that there is always something very interesting to read.... always something worthwhile to spend some time poring over.

I have been a visitor on Aeclectic for a good few months. I used to come on here and read all the posts whilst sitting down with a nice big pint of ice cream!

You guys sure are correct when you say it is a one of a kind resource. There is no-place quite like this on the internet. Or as Dorothy in Wizard of Oz would say... 'There's no place like home'.

DarkChild  02 Mar 2003
there really isn't any place like this, at least none that ive been to. i remember when i first found this place right after i got my first deck, every day i would come back and see what new messages were up, it just kept drawing me in until i joined. over the past month or so, ive learned soooo much from this place. i don't know what i would do with out it!

where you can come and meet others with similar interest. I woudn't know where to go to talk about Tarot.

In a way the Internet can get us caught up online and missing some of the best things in life, like the company of real people. But on the other hand, it is a very good medium to meet people with similar interests. Above all, Aeclectic is a place where one can learn a lot if one is willing to invest some time.

Why do I come to Aeclectic? Because I'm hooked, and like all junkies I keep coming back for my fix. :D

Last summer, in a burst of mental energy, I felt *extremely* drawn to using my Tarot cards again. But this time I was ready to get "real." I'd been reading the cards, with absolutely no training, for years and felt I was often getting good readings. But I wanted to really LEARN Tarot now, I felt ready.

I have been a forum member of my favorite henna webpage (shameless plug : www.hennapage.com) for several years. I love forums. I love reading and writing, and sharing a passion together, learning and growing. So when Tarot called my name, I typed in "Tarot forum" in Google, hoping to find a good place to learn and grow too, and ended up here.

"OOOOOOOOoooo" was my first response. For the first few days I would come back and read read read. I finally decided to join because I wanted to jump in to threads and say "Yeah me too!" or "No, I've never thought of it that way!" so badly that I couldn't stand it any more.

A good forum can teach you more about a subject than tomes of books. A thoughtful discussion can lead you to new insights that reading (passive learning) cannot offer. (Not that I'm about ridding yourself of your Tarot books, that's Umbrae's job).

There are so many amazing people, and so many amazing minds, to come and meet with here. It's true, you can spend entirely too much time online. But balance it out with real life and you have a incredible cyber collection of spirits here at Aeclectic, with more interesting faces showing up all the time.

It's no wonder I kept telling my sister, sagitarian, about Aeclectic. I couldn't shut up about how much I loved it!!

I discovered this place two months ago or so, and after reading a few posts i registered.
Even i dont know any of you, i 've found here are lot of interesting persons with interesting things to say. So i keep coming to Aeclectic because i like to read what you are writing and also to add my small contribution here.
This site and specially the forum is a big help learning tarot and other related issues. Thanks to all who make this posible!!

Mimers  29 Mar 2003
And so has my Tarot collection :D

I have only been here 2 months and I feel like it has been two years. People immediately made me feel welcome. I have been able to learn so much and not just about Tarot. What I also appreciate is the reading exchange. I am new to Tarot and this gives me the opportunity to get practice and feedback. I have also gotten great readings from others. Now I am involved in a study group of the Marseilles PIPs and I am so excited about it. So many peoples views and input. I also love the threads that come up like, "what do you think of the 10 of swords" or any other card. When these come up I go back to my journal and see what I wrote and then see what other people say. It is so interesting.

There is also a lot of fun and joking around here too! I come here at least once a day. More if possible.

I'm here for only 1 month but learnt many things about Tarot Decks and witchcrafts. I know better of their history and uses. What are they mean to our life. What they benefit to us. Why are we using them. I find all these questions here.

I typed Tarot Decks at Yahoo! Search and found this forum. I didnt really bother to come for the 1st week as the register took a few days to allow me posting. Then i keep asking questions after logging in. I learn many things!! *happy* ^_^

I can share my happiness and woes with the members here. And i share the members here happiness and woes. I also know more friends!! ^^

Hippy!

I've never been anywhere else where everyone is so concerned about everyone else. There is a genuine warmth and caring here that I really appreciate. It's one of the reasons I enjoy this site so much !!!!

It's nice to see people like you wander in here! I'm looking forward to reading more of your comments. Welcome!

Actually, I have had this site bookmarked for a few years as a resource on tarot and tarot decks. I began infusing tarot into my night class on multicultural folklore, and I also re-awakened an interest in tarot after I found the William Blake tarot. I browsed and gawked at decks, and used the Top Ten lists as recommendations for deck purchases (bought the Sacred Circle, Osho Zen, Legend: Arthurian, and Dragon tarots this way). Never even considered the forums for years. After all, I was pretty much a tarot dummy, or so Emily Peach would say because I didn't study all the astological, planetary and numerological correspondences first.

Well, back over last summer, I began clicking and reading posts here, still afraid to contribute my uninformed opinions. Finally, I said, "What the heck!" and here I am. I am glad I did, since the people here are so welcoming and offer so many varying points of view.

I hope you will find it to be the same!

Peace

I belong to several on-line professional organizations and e-lists; in none of them do I find the lively, intelligent and (where appropriate) well researched and documented discussion/debate expressed in the Aeclectic Forum. My only concern is that I witnessed a young newbie subjected to impatient and sarcastic remarks on a previous thread. I'm new here, myself, and hope that we can all remember to be patient and kind in the ways we share information.

azuremariposa  31 Mar 2003
most definitely a wonderful place...i just recently "discovered" aeclectic a few months ago, and (obviously) just joined the forum earlier this month...i have always valued the input of others and have no illusion about my level of knowledge (or lack, thereof)...i didn't have much time to really read through most of the forum until today, but i liked what i saw immediately, so here i am...
some forums are not very friendly, and some are even more "put-offish" (if that's even a phrase) than a barrel full of porcupines...but aeclectic's forum seems to be populated by (dare i say it) a higher caliber than most...people who have knowledge and are willing to share it are definitely a cut above the rest...
that's just my two cents...and thanks to this forum, for being here...
many blessings to all...

Put it this way..........
I had absolutely NO IDEA about the internet, websites, e-mail, etc, etc...this is my husbands computer, and that was that!
Until one afternoon, my hubby said..."You know..there would be heaps of websites on that 'Tarot-card-thingy-you-do', do you want to learn to surf??" and so I did, and to my excitement, I found Aeclectic....I joined, jumped right in and never looked back.
now I am addicted, a junkie and there is NO CURE..;)
We now have a second computer, as hubby wasn't getting this one back..;)

Cheers

I'd been reading Tarot for years, but I didn't know anyone who was as interested in it as I have always been. A friend of a friend, but that was it. Being an introvert, I got along okay, following my solitary path, but sometimes wondering how to find other like minded people. Sometimes you just want to talk something over. (What do *you* think that crawfish represents??? And what about those pillars in the distance???)

So, when I found Aeclectic I was so happy to find people who were interested in tarot - more than just " cool cards" and a place to discuss tarot, and related subjects. I have learned so much here, and I hope to keep coming back.
