Well...
it has oft times been said that those who claim to be masters aren't.
that basic maxim is part and parcle of my particular frame of reality. there's a great deck of cards, the osho zen. lovely artwork, fabulous contruction, but it turned me way off. The reason: an additional card intitled 'the master' with a portrait of osho...
so, as has been said, 'master' is a loaded term.
we are here because of tarot. we come, not to learn and teach, but to share. and we share all that we are, not only the portion of ourselves that touches and is touched by the cards. we share our joys, our disapointments, our zaniness.
In short, we share our love.
To ask for masters was a slap in the face of sorts.

What a disappointment that must have been. I do not have the deck, but i find such a self statement to be odd. I think of the Dalai Lama and his humor or Mother Theresa and her dirty hands. I think of the many dogs i have met,who are truly Masters, which is why they are so comfortable with joy!!!
We are all 'masters' of our uniqueness; no one will ever be as we are, each a splendid living example of Spirit.
The greatest art of living is the unassuming presence of being here fully. I see the world as struggling with the concept of passion, of fully participating, of finding miracles in everything.
Life is such a grand, unbelievable Gift!!!
Master, for me, is the ladybug climbing the rose!!!

Ravenswing-
I don't get it..if you didn't like the "master" card in the Zen Osho, why didn't you just take it out, or use it as a blank card (re:runes)? Discarding the whole deck is such a waste of wisdom and beauty...why? Is that old guy threatening to you in some way? You do know that the "master" was not only not the artist, but deceased when the deck was drawn, right?
It's just a peice of cardbord...
Masters do exist--Mother Theresa was one--maybe the Osho Zen guy was, maybe we all are in our varying ways.
I don't get how this whole master flap is such a huge big deal. Masters exist. There may or may not be any here, and if there are, they may or may not own up to it or be recognized by others.
So we have an inpatient Newbie who wants masters to step up and point themselves out. We have a bunch of people saying, 'oh no, I'm not a master, he is..." we have a lot of people upset that the question was even asked... Results are predictable. But it dosn't make the whole forum "ruined" for anybody unless they chose for it to be. And it dosn't make the newbie anything other than impatient and honest enough to say what he thought, out loud.Which is part of what forums are for, in the first place :D
If you want to get rid of that Zen Osho deck, you could trade it, you could sell it or you could give it away.
Or you could get past that the artist felt she knew a true master and chose to honor him that way.
It's a piece of cardbord that is entirely under your control.
You are its master.
And it is your choice.

magpie9--
I have made choises.... we all have (or at least, that's my opinion. and what follows are no more, no less, than some more opinions...)
To me, to discard a card is a dis-service to the designer/artist (who, btw, has done the Tao Oracle, a beautiful set that I have, use and love). A system is as it is-- to be used as a whole. And the angle that the swords were portrayed in did not sit well with me either. I have sent the deck off to someone somewhere somewhen ago.
There was no threat-- there was just a lack of resonance between his framework and mine.
Perhaps the art is printed on a piece of cardboard, but, as an artist, I feel the energy and force that comes from me when I do a piece of work; I feel the let down when it is all finally released, when it stands now as an individual, no longer an internal part of myself. Many times the concept develops on its own, transforms in the process of creation. When I have finished with it, it has a life of its own. We have been made in the image of our God/desses-- we can create life from dust...
What I have before me in the deck of cards might be equated as a photograph of someone. When I deal with a deck, I feel a connection with the original, I feel life. So to me, the deck is alive.
Just my feelings and viewpoint. Not necessarily approved by the management.
