i mean ... you had dreamt for months/years about one deck and then you heard that it is maybe still available somewhere. Then you decide to skip the traditional saturday meal with your in-laws (ready to face with the tragic consequences knowing that anyway you will soon be handling the joy of your life in your little shaking hands) you drive 500km (don't ask me how many miles that is...) and get lost in a small city (or a huge one) and finally when you are able to locate this esoteric shop you NEEDED to go to, well, of course ... it is closed or went bankrupt ...
or did you put your alarm clock at three o'clock in the morning to be sure to be the highest bidder on ebay ??? ...
or did you eat porridge for six months to treat yourself with this beautiful italian limited edition ?? ...
please tell me what crazy things you did ... i need comfort in seeing i am not the only one ...
PLEASE IF THERE IS A SIMILAR THREAD TO THIS ONE, JUST BUMP IT UP!
thanks,
kissa

Kissa, your post makes me laugh with welcome recognition! I've gone the porridge-for-dinner route on quite a few occasions in order to get my hands on rare or limited-edition decks. Two that come to mind are the hard-to-find (in the US, anyway) Le Tarot Ambre and the limited-edition Necromantic Tarot. Oh, and then there was the Tarot for Cats and the PoMo. And the driving-for-miles (250 of them) twist was added to porridge-for-dinner so that I could get the Universal Dali deck -- which is now sold widely, in a new edition. Sigh....what you don't eat, can't make you fat! :)

I once pulled rank on a co-worker to bump her from attending a customer conference in Rome so that I could go because there was an extremely rare deck for sale there I just had to have. This was before the Euro replaced the Lira and I ended up paying about $300 USD for a deck that's easily worth 5 times that much.

Mojo: Oooh you scoundrel! ;)
I haven't done anything like that, but I have survived on a diet of rice and water for weeks on end due to a spendout on the Universal Dali Tarot and William Blake...
And I spent nearly £50 (Around $80) on a deck I once got FREE with a teenage girl's magazine... Its very rare now because most of the copies got lost (People thought oh, its free, we can throw it away...) and I needed it for the sentimental value.
Wish I had kept the original I got for free though... I'd be £50 richer today!

i only saved for a month, and on my birthday i got my mom to drive us all up to winnipeg (all my friends wanted to come to go to the movies and hang , for we were all living in the same house crazy times ehhe)
i made them drive five hours there, spend 500 in the genesis book store and then we went to the hotel.
ah that was a good day , we went to a dinner and i had a long island ice tea, to try it as i just turned 18.(18 in manitoba 19 in ontario age of majority).
then i made them follow me around in portage place checking out a more book stores lol.
(that not to bad i drove 10 hours , five hours there and five hours back on tuesday just to get a game called dynasty warriors 4 for the ps2, woke up at 730 and didn't get home to midnight (well we had to stop and eat and browse )

I've gotten into several bidding wars for decks. There was the Buddhistic Fantasy Tarot that I wanted badly. Someone was bidding against me and with a minute to go they were high bidder.I waited until 40 seconds were left to make my final bid, hoping that their computer was slower than mine. I won, but the next time I tried it, I was edged out. Then I recieved an email from the winner, with about 100 HAHA 's. Win some - lose some.

on and off for two-to-three years that the perfect anniversary-birthday gift would be this gorgeous deck on an Italian site that actually was quite reasonable, as I didn't want jewelry...however, given the choice, actually my husband went halves on a woman's hybrid bicycle for me one year and within two years, a small-size sea kayak. It would've cost less to get the deck, but he understands sportsgear better.
I actually don't care what sport is playing on the television because I'm working on a creative activity or mumbling to myself while playing with cards. So whatever I carefully budget per month, that works.
It actually causes me to do my taxes, bills and budgeting very early each month...eating lettuce and fruits for lunch, so to get the extra money squared away. And of course I am cheap with tea and coffee expenses, as well--rather have a deck....and I obtained the Manzoni on Alidastore.com right after doing those pesky taxes.

I liked the post about ebay. Okay, here is my story wherein I was saved from my own idiocy. I went on ebay and saw an Ananda deck. It was actually a tarotgarden.com auction. Well, I really wanted the deck and I got into a bidding war and wound up bidding $65 US for the deck. Then I went on the tarotgarden site a few days later and saw that they had it on sale for $45. Luckily Jeanette took pity on me and let me have it for the sale price of $45 instead of the $65 I had insanely bid!

Ebay, such a cruel place ! :joke:
I think the craziest thing I ever did was order a swedish deck from a swedish website while I don't speak a single word of swedish. I just guessed it worked the same as, say, amazon: put the item in your shopping cart go to check-out etc.
I got the deck without a problem. I don't know what I would have done if they had sent me something else - how to explain them that...
