calling all poets...

(moderator, pls move if you feel this should be somewhere else, i was quite puzzled as to where to put it!)

first, let me say that i am no great poet (i still have the link to my old website w/my poetry...i can prove it!! lol)...but for some reason it has been on my mind lately, and i find myself "hearing" poetry again (can't describe how i write, it's like dictation in a way...i hear it...i write it) after many years of nothing...nada...zippo...frankly, i thought that part of me was buried in the past somewhere, dead and gone...but i can't deny being inspired again...so...
sometime within the past few days an idea came to me regarding writing a poem for each of the cards...possibly in relation to their meaning, possibly in relation to the images on the cards (which would really make things sticky since there are so many different decks out there w/so many different images... hehe)...i was wondering what you all thought of this idea...
for myself, i plan on doing it one way or another...in fact, i was planning on setting up a new weblog on my site that will truly be "tarot only", which will house all my tarot thoughts, ideas, spreads, readings, and yes, poetry! (although the thought of setting up 78 categories makes my brain itch...hehe...might have to just make it like thirteen's basics w/the majors separated & the minors put in groups by number/court)...fortunately, it doesn't take too much work to set it up! ;)
if the results are worth a damn i'd love to post them here, though i'm thinking if i do, it should probably go in one of the study groups, no? i'll most likely be using my Rider-Waite deck, although i'd love to try it out w/the Fey (which should be arriving any day now! woohoo!!!!)...

so, what do you think? (i'm sure this is not an original idea, but it is for ME) i think it would be an interesting way to delve a little deeper into the cards, don't you?? :)

pls give me your honest opinions (and don't worry about discouraging me if you think it's not a good idea, b/c i'm going to do it anyway...but my Aquarius just likes hearing what everybody else thinks first...hehe), i'd really appreciate it!!

many blessings to all!

that's all I'm gonna say

runs off with Fey deck looking for one to tell it's poem

AzureMariposa: I think writing poetry for each of the cards is an inspired idea, & one that could lead to an inspired understanding of each card in the process! Further, I see no reason why ye cannot post your Tarot poetry here. We have had occasional postings of poetry in the past but nothing in this particular context.

As it seems ye are already touched by the Muse, go for it!!

azuremariposa  01 May 2003
that's a green light if i ever saw one! ;)
thank you, MeeWah, for your input!! see, i knew it was a good idea! and thanks for the ok to post it here...if i do post i will be sure to title appropriately for whichever card i'm referencing (although, i will be honest, i might not go "in order" ;) hehe) and i welcome anyone to join in!! (hence the title of this thread!)
eh, now watch me get all shy 'n stuff...hehe...

many blessings...

p.s. lunalafey, i'm not at all surprised you say The Fey :D and we shall see what happens when it arrives!!

can come from a delightful teaming of art and poetry.

Historically, you're right up there in ideas of art card games and poetry...Japanese traditional culture did it with New Year cards, Chinese had moon-viewing poetry parties when flowers bloomed according to the "Tales of A Chinese Grandmother" book...at one point, one of my old e-lists suggested a poem every New Moon to give a nice celebration of the lunar cycles. So why not pick a major or minor card every week or month and let it or you tell it a story poem.

I just wrote a note about a silly girly power deck I have...but it was also the time that I bought "A Magical Course in the Tarot" with the whimsical ink drawings and interesting little phrases for each card...the book has a yellow cover. So if you grab a modern deck for fun, sometimes little books like that can also help give you ideas.

If you are into classic poetry, choose a culture and the associated perfect tarots in your mind and then there's lots of ways you can go. Sometimes I like the Romeo and Juliet tarot with English style poems...but mostly I like Italian decks with classic woodcuts or engravings and some little Dover book translation.

"Here are images of luminious things
shining just behind
in my mind's eye.

Here images of luminious beings
sharing the table
at my fingertips

Welcome, such dreams
spilling out from the shades
soft can they shine,
spun out of time
as flowers in the air
to be gathered
words and pictures that tell,
small stories.

They form such tales
in my citadel of hopes
to be felt---and to satisfy.
By your bridge of sighs, I can tell
when the words take flight.

The good words linger,
trail their frail
fragrance
as we share small stories,
perfumed and tasted, made sweet
by our imagined
delights.

thank you so much for sharing that w/us, Mari! that was lovely...simply marvelous! and thank you for your encouragement...alas, i am not into classical poetry, but i will keep what you said in mind...i have a feeling what i might write for my Rider-Waite will differ entirely from what i might write for The Fey, which would differ from what i might write for the Victoria Regina...hehe :)

and i'm serious, if anyone wants to join me, feel free! :D hehe...

Calling all poets, hm... *feels called* And now?

I've recently considered the same idea, Azure, but gave up on it almost immediately because it would be too much work. :) I suppose you could say I *am* into 'classical poetry' (I take it you don't mean ancient Greek and Latin poets by this, although they're cool too) and writing poems isn't easy to me. It can be fun, but is never easy. I've never written tarot-poetry, but if you want a look at my poems anyway: http://www.williehewes.tk

You *have* realised how many poems you'll have to write, right? I mean, unless you're thinking of haikus, this will take years! Good luck with it! :D

and now? perhaps you'd like to join in on cards that really "speak" to you? i certainly wouldn't expect anyone to write at a similar pace or anything...i don't think it would be "too much work", at least not for me...for others perhaps...but when "the Muse" strikes, it just flows (envision ace of cups here) out of me...
actually, there are very few poets i don't like (though my fave has always been Walt Whitman :D) and i even wrote a sonnet or two once upon a time...heh...but classical (read, hard to understand sometimes) stuff is ok, just not my cup o'tea ;)
i will definitely check out your site, but i would be much to embarrassed to show you mine :| hehe...it was created in the early days of webdesign for me and i just shudder when i think of it (perhaps i will pm you the url)...my older poetry is...er...rather stuck on the themes of love and passion and such...heh
and yes, i have realized how many poems i'd have to write...years?? my goodness, i hope not, although i wouldn't necessarily mind...'back in the day' i used to write 3-5 poems a day ;) although *now* i have 2 little kiddies to take care of, so that may change...hehe
thanks for the encouragement!! i'm very excited and set up my new tarot only blog last night! :) (i was surprised at how easy it was to set up extra blogs [weblogs=journals]...for any of you that use a weblog, you simply must convert to movable type!! it works beautifully!!) and i named it "Tarot Mementos" :D i even set up all the categories i need (woot!)...so it's just a matter of fiddling w/the colour-scheme & then write, write, write!!
can you tell i'm excited?? ;)

many blessings to all...

p.s. ok, ok, if you really wanna see it...you can go here:
http://www.angelfire.com/fl3/tygerlillyscafe/poetry.html
i even had poetry up from other people who visited...and as you can see, the last time i played w/it was back in 2000!! LOL...my goodness...:D i have other poetry around somewhere, but i don't know if i have it set to "public" view...i think it's at:
http://www.xanga.com/kikikat
if you don't see anything, i can go in and make the stuff public again...in fact, i'll go check now...:) ttfn!
uh...yeah...it's there...um...be forewarned, it's still on the love-y side, though i was going through a bit of trauma then...so, if anyone comments on it, uh...just be nice, ok? :)
