About 13 years ago, my husband and myself went for a day out to Sydney and on the way home dropped into a relatively new shopping village at the time called Birkenhead Point in the evening, it had a number of shops which we were browsing around, we went into a bookstore which had various tarot decks and books, which I was browsing through the section while husband was looking around the store.
My husband came over to the section I was in and mumbled something about buying his 'own' set of tarot cards which got my attention as he never seemed to have any interest in the tarot.
As I watched him reach up for a deck on the shelf, at that moment he touched the deck the whole shopping centre had a black out, all lights went out. While my sight was adjusting I heard another familiar grumble of my husband "well maybe I won't get one".
I found this amusing at the time, he still to this day thinks this was a 'sign' that this is not for him.
I do however (secretly) wonder sometimes if it was a sign for him not to get the cards? Am I being too superstitious?
Any thoughts about this ??

LOL I personally would take it as a sign..superstition or not..that would FREAK me out!

Oh that's GREAT! I'd be having second thoughts too--at the very least I probably wouldn't get the deck I touched (do you remember what it was?).

Geez, my first thought was ... THAT'S THE DECK~! GET IT~!!!!
Shows you how whacked I am .... :D
(Does this go back to the whole "is the glass half full or half empty" thing ... is a blackout a good omen or a bad omen ...? Or did ya just have to be there ;))?

As to the glass – it depends if you’re pouring or drinking.
As to the omen…If he believes that it was a warning – then it was.
Now I would have bought two right there on the spot…but I like to tempt the Gods, and they – me…

personally i would have taken it as a sign that the deck he touched possessed great powers, and would definately have purchased it (or shoved it in my pocket during the blackout ... :D lol j/k :D)
but that is definately a great little story :D

Wow, if that had happened to me I would have bought the deck immediately... I always feel that those kinds of signs are good omens, so it's not a question of tempting gods.
Maybe it was a sign that your husband has some special "touch" and should take advantage of it through Tarot.

Terrific story! :)
My first thought, must admit, was what YOU were doing at the time...i.e. was this omen for him at all? But there again, with omens, they are made for the people who see them, and your husband obviously did, so must have been for him...
Why not do a tarot reading about an aspect of this, to gain some guidance? Lets face it, if some other power is prepared to black out an entire shopping centre to get a message across, then coming through with a message via tarot should be a piece of cake! ;)

waw, I wish that had happened too me :D! I'd have seen it as a good sign and would have bought that deck right away!
but - I agree with Umbrae: if your husband thought it was bad, then he's probably right... i guess it means that he didn't really want to get his own deck anyway, else he would have bought a deck anyway, right?

True about the bad omen vs. good omen. If i was going to buy my first tarot deck . Well i probably would not of(raised to think of tarot has devil worshipping lol) now days. If that happened I would be like Umbrae and probably buy a couple copies!

Thanks for your replies.
When this happened I cant really remember what I was doing now at the time ~ all I can remember is watching my husband.
He has never showed any interest in such things ever again, that was the only time (that I know of) and I think the event turned him off the idea.
Admittedly I get a little giggle thinking of it, I always thought it was amusing, I didnt think of it as an omen, or I would of bought the cards. All the same its a nice memory.
The deck was a Rider Waite deck.
I do believe however that he has 'something', for example going to a business dinner one night where there was a prize of an oversea's trip (which he didnt know before hand) he told me something good was going to happen tonight, and of course he won the trip, this has happened many times for him over the years and he has always known when something 'big' is going to happen.

I'm wierd like the rest.......I would have thought 'without it, I'm left in the dark.....but if your honey is 'in-tune'.....then I'm with Umbrae, follow intuition. Perhaps a different deck should be his first.
