Afraid to Read?

I've been debating whether or not to post this at all, but I think I need some advice here. If this is is the wrong place, please do move it somewhere more appropriate. What do you do whan you're afraid to do a reading for fear of the outcome? Let me explain...

I have a health problem that I am very anxious about (and yes, I'm being watched by a dr very carefully--- I've had so many blood tests this past week I look like a pincushion lol). I'm too scared to do a reading on what the most likely outcome is, so I haven't done one. I'm so scared that I will see my worst fears confirmed in the cards that I can't even work with them to any great extent. In fact, I've stopped reading altogether for the past week or so. No daily draws, no random readings for myself. All the cards I pulled kept coming back to this problem, probably because it's been heavily on my mind. I was reading for other people, but random cards started showing up in the spreads which clearly had nothing to do with the other person, but were clearly meant for me. So I quit reading for other people too.

I tried meditating on the cards, but I couldn't get anywhere with it; it felt like I kept hitting a brick wall at some pretty superficial levels of meditation. I also tried asking them for advice on how to handle the problem and what I should do to ensure a positive outcome, but all the cards kept telling me was that I was really anxious and I wasn't handling the problem well. I could have told anybody that without the cards lol.

I'm utterly lost and confused here, not to mention scared, anxious, and hurt. Should I face it and just go do a reading? Or am I being an utter coward and whining too much? Or should I just put the cards away for awhile and wait? I'll know what's going on for better or for worse next Friday (the 13th-- good thing I'm not superstitious about it :) ). Anything that might help will be gratefully accepted.

::big huggles for Sobe::

I'm so sorry to hear fo your medical difficulties. I hope everything goes well. Don't worry...I once had 5 lil things of blood taken from me all at once...I know how you feel. Well...that is, after I finally didn't feel like I was flying. I was all light-headed and all weeeeish.

I had a case of Legionnaries disease last year in April to about August (and Marching band while doing it all too). Actually, my Mom and I both had it. And she wasn't getting any better, turns out it was her old work's office building. It had mold in it and prettymuch shouldn't even be standing. I went to work with her a few days one week to help her with paperwork...and we stayed there for a few hours and that must of been how I was exposed. She's now sueing her old employers (well, trying to, her lawyer is kinda being a jerk but...thats another story).

As for the cards...I'm not sure if I would read them or not either. I didn't read my cards when I was sick (cuz that disease can like, kill people. You can find it on the web somewhere if you wanna check.). Not really because I was scared, but more because I was too tired to do anything but sleep. But my understanding for not wanting to know what's going to happen.

I hope everything goes well next week, and let me know. You'll always have everyone here's support...well at least mine! I'm not sure how much comfort I provided...but I hope I gave alil bit.

~Much Love~

There is a reason you don’t read on medical or legal issues…

It’s called Bias.

You will ‘see’ what you want to see. Then you will see what you ‘fear’.

Meditate on/with the cards (Especially ‘The Star’).

Remember, a reading may indicate that you will be free and well…and then you step in front of a bus on the way to the Doctor’s…and you are free…and well.

I would certainly not ask the cards about the outcome in your situation.

However, if you want to use your cards from time to time, you could just draw one card asking for advice on how to deal with your anxieties.

That way you are not focusing on your health problems, but on how to improve your mental state. It is a much more positive step than enquiring about the evolution of your illness.

We are here to support you if needed.

i definatley agree with diana - choosing cards for advice makes more sense. what will be will be. so use the cards as a healing tool.

I think is not good to read when one is afraid of the outcome, indepently of the subject whats the reading about.

The advices that have been given to you already are good. Big hugs Sobeknofret.

Health worries are the pits. I really hope you get a good result from your tests and I'm not surprised that you are feeling so terrible while you're waiting.

I really would leave the cards alone for now - all you're hearing from them is 'your're worried' and you don't need to hear that. Have you got any other hobbies or interests that could take your mind off things while you wait?

Rats! It ate my post lol!

Thank you all for your wonderful advice and concern. I thought that you all here would have good advice, and I was right. I have decided to do a one card reading today and leave it at that. If it's too much, I'll put the deck away and go do something else (like hang out on Aeclectic :) Or actually go study for the Ph.D exams I have coming up in a few months :( ).

Once again, thank you all for your advice and concern.

Hugs,

((((((((((((((Sobe))))))))))))))

I'm a little late coming to this thread... but I'm sending you some positive energy... Hoping it will help to bolster yours.

Any way... I think Diana had an excellent suggestion. Definitely doing a 1 or 3-card draw on advice for dealing with the anxiety could be very helpful. If, however, you still are getting cards which seem to be going the wrong way or which you can't focus on or interpret... you might try going to the Reading Exchange forum and see who's offering readings. Perhaps getting a reding from someone who is not directly connected would be beneficial? Another possibility is to post your confusing reading in the Your Readings forum for another outlook on them...

Hoping for good news...
