i've never done a tarot reading before, but i recently found a book on tarot cards in school, and there was this section at the back about divination with playing cards. so i decided to try my hand at it and did a 'reading' for my mom. both times i did it, the cards said that she would soon deal with a will, that there would be some kinda accident, and that a man with white hair would help her.
3 days ago, we went over to my grandmother's place( it was the one month anniversary of my grandfather's death), and everyone had to sign the papers regarding his will and their inheritance. now i had no idea my grandfather had even drawn up a will.
and the day after that, the 26th, my mother was on her way somwhere with a friend. they were crossing the street... and her friend got run over by a car. her friend is in hospital now with a broken leg, but thank god nothing happened to my mom. it could very easily have been her who got knocked down by a car. the first person my mother called after this accident was a long time family friend- a white-haired man. i dont know what kind of help he offered her exactly, but i think maybe he and his wife ferried her to the hospital and gave her some emotional support.. my mother is still too traumatised to talk about the accident.
this cant all just be a coincidence can it?? i'm starting to think that these things happen BECAUSE of the cards, not that the cards give us a little peek into the future. both my mom and i are very freaked out, but my mom WANTS me to do another reading for her. and i dont know if i ever want to touch a deck of cards again.
another thing i noticed is that my grandfather passed away on the 26th of april, and this accident happened on the 26th of may. does the number 26 have any particular significance? or the individual digits?
thanks for your help!!

Threre IS something like a self-fullfilling profecy, and that's the reason why readers should avoid predicting Death, disabling accidents, or attempt at diganosing cancer, AIDS etc. Some people are very prone to suggestion.
May be a better way to deliver certain news is to look from the perspective of raising awareness for certain possibilities. In stead of saying "you will be involved in a car accident shortly and someone_may be you_ will die" you could say "make sure you take your car for revision and don't drink and drive, nor take rides with drunks or people you don't know well". These are good advices that can help prevent accidents, rather than enhancing the chances of them happing because the person is too freaked and/or acting upon unconscious suggestion. Also, keep in mind that some people are actually responsible for things that look like complete "accidents" from an outsider's point of view.
If I have my appartment broken into, I may benefit from thinking what in my behaviour has precipitated that thing to happen. It may be that I have chosen to live on the ground floor of a not-so-safe community. It may be that I have been spreading the word about how much money I store in my mattress. Conversely, you can approach your "predictions" from such standpoint "consider the safety of your appartment and the reliability of the persons you confide in" etc.
Hope that helps. As far as the cards causing disgrace, I haven't seen that happen as yet. At least not with me.
Alex.

Don't start believing that the cards CAUSED all this, because they didn't. Suggestibility is a factor in readings, like Alex says, but the cards themselves don't make anything happen, that's not how they work. You don't need to go scaring yourself along those lines, especially right at the beginning of learning about tarot.
The hardest part people have is to make sense of a reading. Not all of it is 'by the book', a lot is intuitive, and other factors come into play. You might get the Sun card & think everything is going to go great for the day, and end up at the end with a bad sunburn from the beach--hmm........ Finding out after the fact is often what happens.
Don't try to find doom & gloom in them, that's not the way to go. It could be all circumstantial, and then again maybe that's not what the cards actually were trying to tell you after all. (It would all depend on the deck you had, the spread you used, etc.).

I agree with Hudsongrey. The cards don't make anything happen and the last thing you need upon first learning about tarot is freaking yourself out. It seems as though you definitely have a natural talent for it though. Ultimately of course, you need to decide what is right for you, and hope you find peace within yourself regarding this situation. Love and peace of light in your soul.

Hi sirona, welcome to Aeclectic Tarot, and welcome to Tarot in general.
As far as these things being "coincidence"... I wouldn't call it that. It does sound to me like you may, possibly, have had a very good, strong, and unusually detailed reading. No... the cards can not cause something to happen on their own. Nor do I see a reason here for you and your mother to get "freaked out". Quite the contrary... I see a lot of reason for you (and your mother, on your behalf) to be excited. It sounds to me like you might have a real talent for the Tarot. I personally feel that you should continue with learning the Tarot.
I understand that you were using a regular deck of playing cards? Based on my thoughts above, if this is the case, I would think you might benefit by getting yourself a "regular" Tarot deck. One of these more traditional Tarot decks might help you to further open up your intuition and hone your skills. Then again... it sounds as though you might be doing quite well with the playing cards... ;)
I do have to agree with the others that one of the things you'll have to learn is how to word these things. You'll want to learn to temper the way you deliver some information. On the other hand, I personally do not believe in intentionally withholding information from a person for whom I'm doing a reading. If I see something revealed in a reading which might be disturbing to the querrent, I still feel they should be told, though I do try to find a positive way to pass on the information.
I do hope this has been of some help...

...which agrees with the person who mentioned of playing card style reading. I've been reading about playing card readings from various paperbacks because it is different. The meanings seem more slanted to the old fashioned prediction mode---hence, it talks about light-hair, light eyes, dark eyes and hair, etc., in association with court cards. The playing card or predictive style of reading seem to suggests events such as letters or news or accidents tend to seem more geared to 'good' or 'bad'. It makes me think of very old-fashioned slants on what 'fate' or 'fortune' has in store for the person.
Sorry if this is long, and hope it doesn't sound too negative. Yes, the good fit of your reading with events do sound as if reading with cards can work for you. Will the predictive events always work according to playing card reading? In my case, if the slant is positive or negative, it works HALF the time---but my attitude also has something to do with this. If I'm feeling good, the positive reading underlines my mode. If I'm feeling down, the positive reading helps me feel a little better. If I'm feeling down and have a negative reading, I'm a little grumpier and don't read for awhile.
