Have you ever found more than one copy of a card in a deck?
I've just gained a second-hand baby Rider-Waite deck, so I was sorting the cards into order, just to check they were all there and - lo and behold!, there's two of the same card! Is this common or as rare as finding a deck short of a card?
Oh, and the card I have two of - the Ten of Swords!

Hmmm....can't say that I've had that experience, although most decks come with a couple of 'dummy' cards but if they are the same as cards in the deck, they usually have some sort of printing or advertising on them. And the small Thoth deck comes with 4 Magus's but they are all different. Well, maybe it's an omen then. Ten of Swords...heh heh, well, maybe this deck will take you in a whole new direction in your study and reading of Tarot Cards!

just imagine! a person not knowing would be reading a deck with 2x the posebility of the 10:SL comeing up!
EEEEEK!
imagin if some sick minded person did that sort of thing on purpose!
filling a deck with 10:SL, tower, 5:OL, etc...
but it dus happen on ocation. my enchanted tarot came with 2x 3:CL.
i think it has to do with the way the packs are divided. imagin the cards are set out in an order which happens to end with the 10 :SL. but then one of the final 10:SL skips from the end of one deck to the beguinning of the other, hence making a deck with 2x 10:SL. atleast that's what i think happned with my enchanted tarot. my deck came in 3 packs and one of them ended in the 3:CL hence another started with 3:CL.

Many of us have had the unhappy experience of purchasing decks with missing cards -- it is not a rare occurrence, I'm sorry to say, though thankfully it isn't commonplace, either. I've bought two decks in which there were extra cards -- the World Spirit and the large Thoth by AG Mueller.

I did get an extra "Guardian Angel" in the Healing with the Angels Oracle Cards (by Doreen Virtue)...
...but neither EXTRA nor MISSING has happened to me with a tarot deck, yet.

This did happen to me! I ordered the deck from Amazon,The Star That Never Walks Around.
One day I was doing a reading for myself (about 2 months after I purchased it) and I got the Empress. Twice! So naturally I put the deck in order to make sure I wasn't missing anything and sure enough, I was missing Justice. I emailed the author, Stella Bennett and she replied saying she had an extra and would mail it to me. Well, she ended up mailing me Judgement, not Justice. So I have mailed her back my extra Judgement and Empress and I am hoping she will have an extra Justice card. Otherwise I will have to try and get in touch with the publishers.
Very discouraging.

BoomVoom, when a deck is found to be missing a card, the best thing to do is go to the publisher's website, find the "Contact Us" page, and e-mail customer service about the problem. If this does not produce results, telephone the publisher. If you have ordered the deck on-line (as many -- if not most -- of us do), the company should replace the missing card and not require you to return the deck to the place of purchase.
Many decks nowadays have all their cards, but some are blurry or damaged. The same considerations apply: e-mail and/or call the publisher and ask them to send you a replacement card. If the customer service department is not helpful, telephone the company and ask to speak with a supervisor.

I've been fortunate enough not to have any missing cards *touch wood*. But I did get an extra strength card in my Wheel of Change deck. It turned out to be one of my favourite cards in the deck and I've been using it as a bookmark.

Yes, I got a deck once that a whole series of extra cards, 5 or 6 of them. I also wondered if anyone was missing those cards, but it is impossible to do anything about it with a commercial deck.

Well,
We've put two alternative Death cards in the Tarot of Prague. It just seemed more useful than leaving in a blank card (the way printing layouts work you get 80 cards on a sheet, which is why most decks have a "title" card and one other besides the main 78 cards) and we had two designs for Death, both of which we liked.
It's such a sensitive card that we thought it might be useful to let people choose - one version is much more baroque and graphic than the other.
However, must admit I suddenly worried about inexpert users leaving in both cards - as someone on this thread said "EECCK". I hope I've made it clear in the book that the intention is to choose which of the alternatives to use - maybe according to the querent.
_________
(next bit a bit off-thread, but I need to get if off my chest LOL)
SADLY - the cards aren't yet up on our site. Long story, our web person now has a fulltime job and just never seems to get around to our stuff - we are looking for someone else as it's frustrating having the cards but not being able to get them on to the site - never mind not yet being able to show the book, packaging etc - and the deck will be out in a fortnight so it's becoming URGENT.
__________
Anyway, it will be interesting to see if people like to have the choice - I hope so, and I think they are both interesting cards, though in different ways.

Baba Prague, how exciting that your deck will be out soon! I can't wait to receive it, and I like the idea of having two Death cards.
It must be very frustrating, indeed, not to be able to show the cards, book and packaging on your website. I hope that someone who is well qualified to administer your website will come into your lives very soon.
All the best to you and your partner!

Yes, an extra Death card sounds like a great idea!
And anyway, we al know Death isn't a bad card, don't we? It's all those good things like letting go, change, growth, new stages in life, etc....;)
Now, the Happy Squirrel, THAT's a scary card! Glad you don't have one of those in your deck. :D
I'm curious: there's 78 cards, 79 with the extra Death - what about card number 80? A signature card?
Pity you can't put up more pictures, I hope someone can help you soon; I'm *so* curious!

Ah the Happy Squirrel Card! Well, I can't say we weren't tempted LOL!
I was a bit worried about putting in two Death cards - it sounds a bit grim and the deck is actually quite sunny, not "dark" at all - but yes, as you say, the Death card isn't bad - but sensitive for querents, so we wanted people to have an alternative to the very baroque design we've done (which, you've guessed it, is my favourite - but might upset some querents)
I think if our website doesn't get updated soon I will do it myself - honestly, it is so disheartening to see nothing moving on on the web front. Meantime we have done everything - well, except the sleeve, as they are printing that last and we need to photograph the book and the cards to go on the sleeve (sorry, box sleeve, ought to explain it all comes in a big box with a printed "sleeve") so there has to be a delay on that.
The 80th card is a title card. We've been asked by lots of people to sign the deck, so I guess that's where we'll sign - we can't really sign on the card "box" as it isn't a box, it's a "hard-back book" style laminated cover - bit like those you see on Italian reproduction decks but higher quality and more durable (and printed, not just a pattern with a card stuck on).
Sorry - this is all off-thread and I can't believe I'm describing all this (hands waving in the air) rather than SHOWING it! I've begun trying to find someone local who can actually get stuff onto the site for us. We've done everything we can - even have a proper "shopping cart" all ready to go (from WorldPay - Royal Bank of Scotland) but not on the site! AAARRGGHHH!!
Okay, I've calmed down now (everyone comes from behind sofas etc) - I think I'd better fish out a copy of Dreamweaver and see what I can do.
Ah well, it will all work out (somehow, please) in the next week :-)
