MAN~! :D :D How cool am i???? :D :D
Last night, I went to a henna appt. for a dear client of mine whom I've been painting once or twice a month for the past year. I love her to pieces.
At the end of our night, with both her hands and feets well adorned in henna, she tells me she's got 4 Tarot decks she's getting rid of and I could get first pick of whatever I wanted.
"I'll take them all!" I said without hesitation, not even seeing the pile yet. (Hell, if I don't like them, I'll trade them, I figure).
So, even though she wanted to pay me too, I insisted that 4 new Tarot decks was quite indeed payment enough for me.
What did I get? :)
Wheel of Change -- first impression, yuck
Motherpeace -- first impression, yuck
Druid Animal Oracle -- maybe
Buckland Romani -- Yeah! One I had considered buying about 8 months ago, and never did. Now I know why ;).
I may yet ditch the first three, but I think the Romani's found a new home.
Still, man I felt PHAT driving home with four new tarot decks. I could hardly wait to get home and play with them.
Life is so cool sometimes .........

Hey Alissa -- give the Wheel of Change a chance!

As complex as Wheel of Change can be, here's a simple idea that Alexandra Genetti did: put the four aces of each suit in a cross formation around a Fool/World card in the middle, then you'll see they are seasonal, reflecting the wheel of the year.
Whether you have the fool or world in the middle depends on you: but in Gareth Knight's suggestion of this exercise, it's the World in the middle. Following Gareth Knight's spread, the Pentacles/earth are on top, the Cups/water are your left, swords/air on the right and batons/wands/fire on the bottom. Anyway, in a well-designed tarot, this is supposed to be interesting to look at the four suits and at the corners of the World card, where there's an angel on the top left, an eagle on the top right, a bull on the bottom left and a lion on the bottom right.
Sometimes when I was wavering at liking a design, I did like one or two decks better because the patterns, coloring or something looked nice or consistent. I was impressed with the Wheel of Change for some of the cards looking so pretty this way. But to be honest, it was never my first choice and I traded it away to hopefully a home that could use it when I couldn't.
I don't like the Romani book, but sometimes the designs look pretty and interesting online.
You might find the Druid Animal Oracle a bit fanciful, but hope it works for you. Magical animals wearing necklaces have a Chronicles of Narnia childhood feel, so I feel okay in recommending this to fans of English literature.

ROFLMAO, yeah I hear ya on that. I figured I would give them a shot, but having seen the cards, the Narnia comment had me rolling on the floor, I admit. (I did love the first few books, as a young teen ... but ....)
Given what you and firemaiden have to say about the Wheel of Change, I should give them a better look when I have a chance. I'm not up to really learning a new deck, I've got too many I'm still unravelling, and the Drogi will soon be on the way as well... But, perhaps I best hold on to it before making any decisions one way or the other.
I don't like round cards. The Motherpeace can go. :P
edited to add :Oh! LittleWing I like the borderless aspect to the Romani cards. WHOA, they suck you right in. Of the 4 decks I brought home, only one slept with me and my runes last night, and that was the Buckland. ;)

oh...Druid...never mind... LMAO... yeah, it's called the Redneck Roadkill Tarot. The Fool begins with a chicken deciding to cross the road, and the Fool's Journey ends up the World Stew.. consisting of Squirrel (sorry Holmes), Deer, Possum, Racoon, and a wee bit of Skunk for spunk!!!
Hee hee :D
Seriously Alissa, that is so great. I am sure you will find some traders out there.

Hey!!! Congrats!
And don't forget there's someone in Naples who would be willing to give a new home to that WHEEL OF CHANGE deck if it's not appreciated enough - honest!
:D
*LOL*
