Strange feelings after readings

I start feeling really tired and weak after doing a self-reading, and I start feeling all yoda-esque (my word for feeling like your Yoda, Wise and powerful maybe omniscient. that kind of feeling) when I do someone elses reading. It's almost as if I were a psychic vampire and don't know it and have been preying on people including myself through the cards. Although I think the yoda-esque feeling may just be me getting cocky. (I hope not)

Anybody have similar experiances/ know anything about this?

HudsonGray  05 Jun 2003
Sounds like you need to ground & center (ever feel 'spacey' at a wedding reception, more so than you figure you should be, or have days where you just keep bumping into people?) Could be that you are drawing energy from the other person, or pushing too much away from you.

There's a site online that explains how to ground and center to avoid this, I'll post the URL. It's pretty beneficial especially if you're noticing some severe energy swings like this with your reading.

Here it is, look under the 'basic skills' section -- http://www.psipog.net/activepsy/contents.html

This site has been mentioned before & people had a lot of luck with it.

Actually, you sent me that link for my question about meditation and I couldn't really get very far with it. I don't know but, I think it would be easier if someone was actually here to help me out. I have trouble doing things in the psychic realm. I was in training to be a psion, but the person who's been teaching me is my age and keeps getting grounded (in the bad way by his parents). When I tried to meditate, I don't think I did very well centering. Also when I went in the card I felt more like I was a ghost or something. First I tried to walk through in my imagination, but my mind wouldn't let me. I couldn't let myself get past that, so I tried imagining myself lying with my eyes closed in a clearing in a forest. Then opened my eyes in the card. But I couldn't keep myself in one place. I floated in the air several times. At some point, I did get to actually talk to the character, but since I use the vampire tarot, when I asked the fool why he did it (I actually got to the point in my head to where I saw his victem), he told me basicly that he enjoyed it, then came after me. That's when started feeling like a ghost again and started flashing to diferent places in the card and then the fool started acting like he had never seen me, and couldn't see me. For quite a while I was just floating above his head. It was very confusing and blurry. Then my noisey neighbors down the street started playing music and I lost concentration again. (the phone rang at the beginning) Way too much distraction. Also, I saved that link under fav.s. I hope you can help me further.

When I ground and center, I simply imagine that I have roots, and am sending them deep into the earth. It helps to actually be in contact with the earth initially, but I don't have to do that much any more. Take a meditation class from a local yoga center or martial arts center. They can teach you how to ground and center, although they wouldn't call it that. Also, eating or drinking a little bit after a reading can help to bring you back to earth.
Go outside, walk around, hang out with a tree or a rock, smell the flowers and grass.

As for the meditation, you may wish to try it with a less aggressive deck. I find that the more aggressive the deck or that I'm working with, the more aggressive the meditations can be, and the Vampire deck is pretty bloody. It may be a great reading deck, but maybe not so much a good meditation deck for you.

Good luck,

Dude (or Dudette)…it’s your breathing.

Your blood chemistry is supposed to be Acidic…when you breathe funky, you over-oxygenate your blood. The result is, you feel spacey. You can also have ‘visions’, and pass out.

It’s a trick used by ‘faith healers’, get folks excited, have them sing hymns…

So slow down, relax…

HudsonGray  05 Jun 2003
That's good advice here--slow down, relax, avoid distractions (maybe try this later at night?), a less aggressive deck or at least a less aggressive card to start with, etc.

It takes practice. When I learned I was in a group of 9 people and we spent most of the afternoon listening to the teacher & going up and down into meditation (about 9 times I think, it was a long afternoon). Try it with your back against a tree if you can, trees are good for this. Or just try it sitting in a comfortable chair (don't lay down). You can do it, just take your time. Breathe slow & even. Give yourself a good 45 minutes of time so you don't feel rushed.

G.I.R.  05 Jun 2003
oOo, so I WASN'T supposed to lie down. Dang, I wish I'd of known that the first time. I was lyin on the bed. As for timing, maybe I should do it during the middle of the day since I'm the only one home?

Sobeknofret  05 Jun 2003
Do it however and whenever it feels good to you. If you want to lay down, then do it that way. I prefer sitting straight up or with my back against something; propping myself up with pillows while sitting in bed is the most effective for me. Cross your legs, keep them straight, whatever works for you. I learned from a Zen Buddhist, so my way may be very different than someone who learned in a yoga class or a specialized meditation class. I also pay close attention to breathing like Umbrae said. Making yourself aware of the cyclic pattern of your breathing, concentrating on fully expanding your lungs and fully expelling the air, even counting breaths, will help drop you into a meditative state. Later, this same breathing pattern can help drop you into a deeper trance state for other kinds of work.

Try to minimize distractions as much as possible, but when a stray thought or distraction pops in there, simply acknowledge it and move on. Trying to fight it or pretend that it isn't there simply makes it more prominent. Give it what it wants, but let it go. One mistake that people make when they first begin to meditate is to beat themselves up about those stray thoughts and distractions. They happen. They happen to practiced masters. Acknowledge them and let them go. Even if the thoughts and sensations are pleasant, you just have to acknowledge them and let them pass by.

Meditation and grounding and centering are extremely important basic skills for pretty much any kind of psychic or magickal work. The bigger stuff all rests on these fundemental skills. If you practice them often enough, you will get better at them. :)

sagitarian  06 Jun 2003
I used to feel drained all the time after doing readings, and if I pushed myself to do a few more, then sometimes I would get a headache (a migrain). I used to just be careful and limit myself to how many readings I did, and of course this also depended on how in depth the readings were. That all changed after I picked up my faery oracle deck (by Brian Froud) as they seem to help energize me while I am reading. Perhaps if you find a deck that you really click with, it may help eliminate some of the exhaustion that you feel. That is if I understood your post right :)

G.I.R.  06 Jun 2003
Actually, I only feel exhausted when I read for myself.

Howdy G.I.R.,

Below I've pasted part of an answer I posted to a thread in "Using Tarot Cards"... http://www.tarotforum.net/newreply.php?s=&action=newreply&threadid=14810

Quote:
For me, there is a tremendous difference in the way energies flow for me when I'm doing a reading for myself, as opposed to reading for someone else. What I've learned is that, when I read for another person I feel that energy flows back and forth between myself and the person I'm reading for. We can both be energized by this sharing of our personal energies. When I read for myself, there is (obviously) none of this sharing - in these readings I'm only expending energy, in much the same way one does when doing physical labor. These readings for myself are excellent excercise, and help to strengthen and hone my abilities, though it can be over-done.

Is it possible this is something like what you've been experiencing? However, I do have to say that I'm only speaking of my own experience here. This may not necessarily be what you're experiencing. I do hope this helps...

Actually, that sounds almost exactly like what's going on. Thanks.

HOLMES  06 Jun 2003
the eurphoria of the the reading.

ah for you question.
it isn't just related to the tarot but also any light worker who has healed or worked with a person. for the light that starts to flow through a person raises up their vibration a tiny bit and help them to see their problems in a differnt way .
for us as the readers it expands our spiriitual centers and our third eyes.
you have been much good advice about grounding and centering.
i would put in there not only that but also detaching.

you will find that after you read a while for people, that after you are still thinking about them, the reading, and wondering how they are doing. and begine to feel responsible for their lives. (that doens't alwasy have to happend, it happens in any field where one teaches the other how to deal,
counselors, excerise teachers, )
and begin to wonder "why can't i shut down ?"

that is becuase their energies are still in your aura and you have to detach their auric energies form your own by asking the angels, or spiritual guides, or helpers to take any foriegn energy from you that is not yours and to call back any energies that others may of borrowed or actually stolen from you like a psychic vampire.
it is a necessary step of psychic protection.

also avoid that freind who wants another reading, (come over like once a week, say i want to know somethin else and try to throw last week reading in there to see if it changed. )
those people are addicted to the attention.
to the energy and light of the reader. (once a psychic told me in winnipeg when she came to read for my freind that a client felled in love with while she was attuned to the light, and it took her months to show him that her personal self is much differnt then her spiritual self)
((that can be lickened to the act say conway twitty for instance would dress up get up and sing and then go home and be quiet with his family , that is what we do after attuned to the light we go home l)))

but as for feeling spiritualy high , it helps to jump and down, stomp your feet, take a little sprint.
strech. and do some exerise after. drink water but avoid eating heavy foods.
for that is a body natural reaction to ground your body while simple stretching and calming the mind will do .
(i learn that the hard way and now fighting obesiety ).

Holmes.

WOW!

I always learn so much from your postings. :) :)

I know this is off the thread people. But there have been times when I feel spacey and breathless and light headed, some what like how GIR is feeling(but without the illusions) after having chit chat sessions (on a one to one basis) with my friends.

has this happen to anyone of u before?
Is it because the person is taking energy from me too?
and i probably need to do grounding and centering and to follow Holmes advice too?

I edited this post to say that YeS! what Holmes said about eating heavy food is right. After feeling spacey, the first thing i like to reach is for something solid so that i can feel it in my tummy.

G.I.R do u have this feeling too?

I do get that feeling, but I don't really mind. I'm the skinniest person I know, so if I feel the urge to eat, I do. Really, I'm a sparatic eater. I don't really eat meals. I eat small portions spread out over the day. Also, I'm lazy and don't eat as much as I should, especially with me having as high a metabolism I do. So as far as I'm concerned on this issue, BRING ON THE BACON! yummy.

Also, the vision thingy was only that once, And it was what I was aiming for. Actually the feeling happens most often for me when I do a self reading.

Hmmm. I've had that kind of result from doing readings for me when the answer to the question wasn't one I really wanted to know. When you're reading for someone else, you don't generally have anything invested in what the answer ought to be, so the fact that you're getting answers for them is a trip.

When it's for yourself, well, you tend to. What I've found is that areas where I'm trying to ask questions and end up with an energy suck are areas that I need to explore to check my assumptions about what should be going on, and the "kind of person" I am - usually, the results I get are useful, once I get whatever's glitching things identified. The process of identifying them, though, can be pretty painful, not to mention messy.

It's your deck sir! Try getting your own deck then keep it clean!!!
hand-me-downs are nice....when there clothes or something. Your deck is draining you, if you like it that much then learn how to take care of them better! k! :)

coldsuns  07 Jun 2003
I have..eerie feelings after reading. I always sense that there are more than one person other than myself when im reading the Tarot alone in the room. I feels that there are many people around me and i started to become breathless. Then i started to have goosebumps..-.-''

genna  08 Jun 2003
I have had the same experiance as sagitarian with the Brian Froud Faeries´Oracle. When I read with it I don´t feel drained, but if I read too much with other decks I get very tired.
I don´t read as much as I used to now,so it´s better. When I read A LOT,I also stopped remember my dreams.(I always read for myself).
I guess I should start grounding the "tree-root" way,to take the energy from Earth and not from myself. You are supposed to do that with the Faeries´too, but I haven´t felt the need.Like I´m given the energy, the way sagitarian said.

divinerbynature  08 Jun 2003
honestly the only weird feeling i get is that of a botched reading, and i really only get thoses when im not putting my all into it...

Was this posted toward me? If so, I did buy my own deck (Vampire Tarot) after a short time with a hand-me-down deck (Russian tarot of St. Petersburg that hadn't actually ever been used. It sat in a drawer for 3 years). Also, where can I find out how to "take better care of it" or "clean it?" Because I really don't know much about that. (I'm still in the stage of reading from the little booklet, lol)

divinerbynature  09 Jun 2003
im sorry i didnt mean to come off mean! i had had a "thought" come to me and i acted on it. it felt like the deck was given. im sorry i'll have to focus on it again and find out what it was trying to tell me! ;)

about when you said you were meditating and you felt like a ghost, you were probly astral projecting! congrats! but becareful.

G.I.R.  09 Jun 2003
Don't worry about it. I wasn't offended. I'm just looking for help. Also, if I did astrally project myself (espescially into a place in a card) that is so Freaking (cencering self) awesome. I really really hope so. Yay! And further more... Yay! :D

(added later)

Hey people, yesterday I tried to meditate again. This time I got nowhere. I think I need to stay inside when doing this. Yesterday it was really hot outside. I couldn't concentrate. Then later on at home, I tried doing exactly what I did before. (hoping it was astral projection) only this time I tried to travel in the real world. I tried to visit my friend and girlfriend in their sleep. I'm not sure if anything happened or not. I was depressed, bored, and couldn't sleep. (I had missed an oppurtunity to see my g/f) I ended up getting about an hour's worth of sleep. I really don't understand any of this. Combining this with my previous experiences in the psychic realm, I'm really confused. My would-be psionics teacher thinks he may have witnessed my "awakening" a couple of months ago (I suddenly started having preminitions and slight telekinetic ability), but oddly, after that short burst of visions over the course of three or four days, it all stopped. Nothing has happened since outside of my experiences with the tarot (which I didn't start until May). Somebody help me! I don't understand! Please! :(

and one more thing: Please don't call me sir. It's kinda creepy.
*laughs while typing*
