My tarot story (might be boring)

My intrest in tarot started when i was 8 i saw this commercial for miss cleo and i saw the cards she used. The strange thing is that most nightime commercials junk didnt intrigue me at all but this the cards they looked so cool. But once again i thought of them as something you needed to buy special and so my intrest sorta fell back for 2 years then when i was 10 it was a scorching summer day and humidity was high. I didnt dare go outside. So it was another boring day home alone my sister at the babysitters (my parents knew i could take care of myself so they saved alot of money by keeping me home). Anyway, I went online like i usually did during this scorchin hot part of the season. Then i began to remember my intrest in tarot so i entered the keyword "Tarot". After looking at all the sites (Aeclectic was one i think) and i saw that i could buy a tarot deck in a bookstore. But alas, this had it's downfallings i had allowance but i could never save enough to buy a deck and once again tarot slipped to the back of my mind. Then when i was 13 i was in a BN with my stepdad I was going with him in oklahoma and it was november (heck i only missed 2 days of school thanks to thanksgiving) so anyway we were there like we usually do when we have nothing else to do. I was looking at the board games and low and behold guess what i found! It was a misshelved tarot deck. It was one called the beginners tarot (it wasn't the one US games makes) anyway i saw the price and i knew i couldnt afford it. Though my stepdad being the nice guy he is let me buy it but being the stuborn guy i am i decided to not argue it out until the end and ended up buying instead a mini tarot nova. After that we got back to the apartment and i took out the deck unstuck the cards and read the little sheet with a basic spread on it (till this day i'm still looking for that sheet i could show to some people on here) So i'm reading with great success I still checked the book after to see if my intuition was good. So a few nights later we were back in the BN and In a constant battle of thought I chose the universal Rider-waite out of both the Thoth and the LOTR ( i saw the normal RW but it looked to bland for my tastes) so after we finished buying we go up to the cafe in BN and i get an iced mocha coffee and my stepdad get this one white choclate flavored coffee that is quite good and he actually wants me to do a reading with my deck for him. So i do and he says he likes the universal waite better because it doesnt look like a photo test from a childrens book (which i could agree even though i still use my Tarot Nova for the most crucial of readings plus it's small so that's good) Anyway how i came into Aeclectic was simple i remembered your site and came after searching with the search engine forever. I got on this site the day after i got my first deck.
So that's my story.

P.S. I am in fact a guy the reason i enjoyed Tarot so much is the fact that i enjoy reading about the supernatural and tarot was another one of those cant be explained by science ESP type things. I was always the oddball in my class LOL!

Nice story! Thanks for sharing.....

Was the iced mocha coffee good? And how did the reading go that you did for your stepdad? Does he still ask you for readings? Has he got interested in Tarot at all? (Or is he also an Everquest fan?)

The reading went well. I was able to identify he hated one of his teachers. No my stepdads not an EQ fan he doesnt have the time or the money. I usually read my everquest readings on the cloth maps that came in the gold pack and i wrap the cards in them. heh heh i'm thinking of making a tarot deck titled "the tarot of the EQ addict" I'd picture death as a level 50 playerkiller though i might die catching him on screenshot Oh well. No he doesnt show much intrest in the cards though after telling him about an unsatisified PK he laughed (man some PKs do not wanna pay and say their unsatisfied and when that doesnt work they just kill though it is harder i usually read in the plane of knowledge because attaking there goes against the law of the gods. Many people are satisfied though setting up in qeynos is hard beause many of my clients play primal race and are killed on sight by the guards though humans are common race most are iskar. You just gotta love playin those lizardmen though when i read at the gates an PKing gets you attacked by the guards and even their weakest hits could half kill even the highest level PK. I also only bought one book on tarot and that was the idiots guide to tarot though i didnt really like it all that much.

Interesting story Yami. Not boring at all and it's great that despite all the obstacles, you got here in the end. I wish I had known about or taken an interest in tarot at your age. I think I was into Adam Ant (LOL - you probably don't know him; 80's pop star with a white stripe over his nose). My Adam Ant obsession faded many years ago (still have the odd twinge) but I am sure that your early introduction to the cards will benefit you later on. I think it's great. Keep learning and enjoy.

Best wishes

An Everquest deck? Why not a Yami Yugi deck? (Or are there too many cards out there already? )

Yami Yugi  31 Jul 2003
ya know I was thinking of a Yu-gi-oh deck. I think yami yugi would make a great magician and Plain yugi would make a great fool. If you watch the show you'd probably agree

Ya know now that i'm rexamining my story the deck i found amongst the board games could have been fate. LOL i mean how many people would place a tarot deck on top of a simpsons chess set (which i got for christmas)

hey yami yugi!!!

my first deck was also the tarot nova miniature. i agree it looks kinda "kiddie" but you should know by now...its a true tarot deck. the lwb that came with it was no good for me though

Very interesting story Yami Yugi. Like others, I wish I'd gotten interested in Tarot when I was quite a bit younger... but, I'm here now. ;)

By the way Yaboot... when you mentioned Adam Ant... My mind immediately thought "Atom Ant"... which of course goes back a bit before the 1980's... :D
