i have a very strong feeling that my sacred rose deck does not want me to touch it.
when i reach for the cards, i feel very frightened, and can't read with them...my other decks like me. what's the deal?
any ideas about what to do would be greatly appreciated...

Perhaps it is because you don't like the deck? Perhaps you have absorbed negative thoughts from some of our deck-hating threads?
(Perhaps you need to have a little conversation with your deck, and say you are sorry...)

I felt frightened of Crowley's Thoth deck when I first got it (and i didn't know anything about Crowley so it was nothing to do with him). The reason that I was frightened became clear when i started doing readings with the cards. The images "frightened" me because they evoked very strong feelings, sometimes good, sometimes bad. I realized that to be "frightened" is not always a negative thing.
My advice would be to try facing your fear. I don't think that decks "like" or "dislike" people, they are simply a deck of cards. I don't mean to trivialize your thought on that because I can understand why you would say that, but that's my opinion.
What other decks do you read with? Ruby7

Not everyone connects with every deck...I would try the above advise..and if after a while you still feel this way..trade it, try to get another deck that you find appealing..
As far as the Thoth deck goes..I'm still not comfortable with it, so it just kinda sits in my collection waiting...
Blessings and always do what feels right to you..

exchange the deck here, in one of the exchange forums, or you could give it to someone else, presumably someone you dislike; or you could break out the grill and offer a burnt offering to the tarot god.... ;)

When I feel a deck doesn't like me I usually try to rub it with silk for awhile, I usually does the trick as to purify it!

What would you like to do with it? If you would like to get on with the deck, then you could follow the suggestions about facing up to it and maybe cleansing it.
If you just want a deck that you like and this one isn't it, then why not try trading it? It might be just the right deck for someone else, and you could get a deck you're happy with.
And if you decide later on that you'd like to give it another go, you can always trade again. (I like trading, in case you hadn't guessed :) )

You feel fear but don't know why?
Only you can answer that question. It is just a deck of cards and not a fanged adder. Fear is what *you* feel.

bunnyhop - you could do a reading with the deck about what is disturbing you. Remember, the cards are colored pictures on paperstock. don't give away your power by projecting "fear" onto the cards...if you don't like the deck, give it away.

When I get a new deck, I always need a little time to get to know the deck better before I want to use it: just browsing through the deck, maybe meditating on a card but often just going through the cards a few times until I feel I am ready for it.
If you already have the deck some time and you feel you still don't connect with it...as the others have said, you can always trade it. Depends on whether you still want to give this deck another try or rather start with another - there are so many to choose from !

i guess i should have mentioned that i really like this deck.
maybe it's just bad childhood memories...the sacred rose deck was the first deck i ever saw, and some of the images disturbed me a little.
i've just left the deck alone. that helped. thanks for all your help, everyone.
to answer your ? Ruby7, i usually read with decks that do not depict tons of blood and things of that sort. Goddess, Tarot Nova...

What you fear is not what you fear.
Take the deck, empty your mind…draw two cards

Hi bunnyhop, I like the Tarot Nova also, it is a very simple little deck, but i enjoy reading with it and there is a lot more to get out of it than it seems a first :), Ruby7
