Your choice of Media

What media do you like best? I would choose drawing but I'm a tad rusty but I get around that by using photoshop & Illustrator. But given one choice it would be mixed as I would start of with drawing then finish of with photoshop. 3D cards doesn't grab me when it comes to tarot but some might feel the same about other different forms of media. What media do you like to look at/read with? Opps I think this thread might belong to "talking tarot" sorry

Definitely paints. One of my favorites is the Ancestral Path Tarot. So beautiful. I also love the World Spirit's uniqueness. Very beautiful with the blocks. But, I voted for paints. Love them. Mimi

I don't think I really have a preference, I just look at the end result... ;) In general though, I don't care much for collage or photography.

Hmmm.... tough choice. I very much enjoy the artwork in decks where the artist has used paintings. However, I also enjoy collage and other decks. I ended up voting for paints as I seem to like those the most for my own use. However, as for making my own Tarot deck... definitely prefer photography - I'm not much of a painter... ;)

Since the originals, whether paint, watercolor, or whatever media are produced on printing presses, I voted for other. There are a few private decks with the original media, but most are lithographic in nature.

I prefer paints, I think. There is often so much more depth within the illustrations and so much more mood. I often find photographic decks beautiful - the Vertigo is such a deck, however, a painting media like the Rohrig is much more spell-binding. Yaboot

I ticked hand drawn but I have decks that cover most of the choices, paint effect, photographic, collage - think in the end it just depends on the individual deck but usually I do like to see expressive faces, well probably not on the Tarot of the Spirit or the Thoth but like the Spiral or the Universal Waite, Rohrig. :)

Mixed I too have various types in my collection. I tend to favor pencil, pastel, tempra, and watercolors for what makes me say "ooo how pretty, I like that". Both of my main decks and the newbie I hope to put in the main deck category all are represented in that group. I have also learned however that "ooo how pretty" does not necessarily mean I will get an insightful reading. Sometimes you need to see the ugly to unconfuddle and appriciate the real lesson. Your poll does not cover reproduction techniques, which are *very* important to the end result. An accomplished artist may do good work but if their watercolors or whatever are printed on a standard web offset press without the proper pre-press and at a lower 4-color line-screen setting, it is probably not going to look so good. I prefer spot color decks or hand-printed decks or even decks that use at least a 175-lines per inch screen with the proper pre-press care. As an example, take a look at the Chesta Tarot. They just look far better though they may cost a more.

I voted Mixed, I think every category has decks I love and dislike. I think most decks in my collection are from paintings. There are lots of photo and collage decks I don't like at all, but then there are a few I really like.

I am a big fan of water colour, the colour retains so much light, it's gorgeous. I am more into hand drawn decks but I do enjoy pictures montage as well. Alice

Hi all, I couldn't decide between Hand drawn and Paints so I selected Mixed. My collection has a bit of everything anyway and there are some decks of each style that I really like. But I really do like the hand drawn or painted decks as long as they don't look like a child did it.
