There are two decks that I need to air out for different reasons.
1.
One, the new soy ink smell which I like on my new large decks smells strong to my husband. (He also doesn't like my drying rosemary sprigs in the microwave for the pine-y oder is intense.)
I put the deck in a cardboard box with three rosemary sprigs on a shaded porch during daylight. This is before the sunset heat hits that side of the house. No cover on the box, the box is just to shade the cards somewhat and contain them.
2.
The other is I need to 'de-oderize' a used deck out of tobacco smell.
Checking the net, I put down a bed of baking soda in a box and then sprinkled the cards. Then I added five one and one-half inch rosemary sprigs as well. The box is also uncovered.
3.
I have a bag and book that I'm airing out with rosemary sprigs
Should I switch to rose petals, pine needles or just baking soda to absorb smell? And people sometimes like to have bits of poems and meditative intents when they air and collect their cards...got any pretty suggestions?

I never tried baking soda but that sounds like a fabulous idea. I'll have to give it a try. Usually I just left the deck near an open window.
To me, dried rose petals don't have much of a smell. Fresh might work though. I love lavender, and it has a pretty strong smell. Ditto for patchouli.
Looking forward to seeing responses about the poems, etc.

i was thinking some of the 'strewing' herbs might work. these were herbs used to cleanse and remove odors.
the three you mentioned would all work well for that.
you might consider what you are using the deck for and match the herb to the use. for example, the rose would work best for romantic type questions, self love or healing. pine needles are very invigorating, i probably wouldn't choose them for that reason myself. rosemary is good for mental stuff, clearing the mind and rememberance. basil would work if you needed protection.
mugwort, lemon balm or thyme would be my picks because they work on opening a psychic connection.
