Some of you may recall last winter when I bent one of my Universal Waite cards. I got advice from a lot of people (Umbrae - my cards have beer stains, don't worry about it - or- put it in a heavy book) but in the end, being the obsessive type, I contacted US Games who were kind enough to mail me a new card. Well, I recently bought the Shining Tribe deck and I noticed that several cards had what looked like a white scratch on them, specifically, 9 of them and all but one of them majors. It made them very easy to spot when fanning the deck. I contacted Llewellyn and without any hassle, the person there just said to let her know which cards they were and she'd mail me new ones. They came today. The nice part is I get to keep the nine flawed cards. Two of them now sit nicely in my alter. Just thought I'd pass this along in case anyone has a problem with a new deck (or a bent card!).

(Oh yeah, some of you are wondering why I didn't take the deck back to the store. Answer: It's 7 hours away by car! I bought the deck at the Omega Institute.)

Lawguy,
Who did you talk to? Is there a customer service number? I have the Buckland Romani deck and there is an ink blotch on one of my cards. I would love to get a new one.
Thanks,
Mimi

My Thoth deck looks like it has casserole spilled on it.
No, wait. That's how its supposed to look.
Nevermind.

Bobbi@LLEWELLYN.com I never talked to her. Just emailed her my concern and she emailed me back and told me she'd mail me the new cards. I gave her my address and the cards I needed replacing and they showed up within a week. Give it a try!

Llewellyn is very good about replacing defective cards (and such).
I had a Shapeshifter deck that I ordered over a year ago & just reciently decided to take possession of it (bought a bunch of stock for resale in a shop). When I opened the packaging and went through the cards, two where missing. I called them (in US 1-800-the-moon~like I could ever forget that number!) and told them the problem, and just like lawguy, the asked me what I needed & got right on it.
Anyone at Llewellyn will help you.
They are quite prompt & only ask the neccessary questions

This is worthy information, should the need arise for any of us to deal w/ deck publishers about defective cards, etc...
Thus far, I have heard good things about Llewellyn and U. S. Games; how about other companies we tarotists keep in business?

This is impressive service from Llewellyn - but at the risk of sounding like a sourpuss, why are we getting so many bad cards in the first place? What happened to quality control, doing it right first time, and several other '80s management catechisms...?
Getting cards replaced is such a regular theme on Aeclectic, something must be going wrong somewhere...

Some decks are not published by Llewellyn, they just distribute.
Having a printshop dad, these things happen...
A press could have broke, they take the (tem-)plate off, fix the press, then go to the next plate. Or the collator(sp?) could have not picked up a sheet in one section....it just happens, they know it, so they have fast no questions asked service.
Just think of how much more $$ we would have to spend on decks if we had to pay some one to go through 1,000,000's of card decks just to make sure that it's not missing one

Lunalafey - thanks for your insights. I'm sure what you say is accurate, and I *do* realise that printing, especially in colour, is a complex operation.
I suppose I just find it difficult to reconcile myself to the idea that this just happens, though, and maybe we should accept what seems to be a high number of errors as the cost of keeping the price down. I've not got a breakthrough idea as to how this particular circle can be squared, but I would hope and expect that any manufacturing operation would be constantly seeking to improve the quality of its product in the light of what must be quite a few "returns". Maybe things will improve with more decks being produced (hurrah!), more customers buying them etc :)
I always feel very sorry for people on these forums who look forward to receiving new decks, invest a lot of time considering what they buy etc only to find their enthusiasm baulked and their pleasure spoiled by receipt of a product in less than perfect condition.
Anyway, I suspect I'm just in a whingeing mood today - just ignore me :)
