Ok I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the divination thread, but take a look at these Tarot dice
http://www.tarotocy.com/
I think this could be a good tool for beginners

many beginners express a frustration with initializing their Tarot ambitions
I don't understand what they're trying to say...this is a confusing statement.
on edit: sorry MystiqueMoonlight, I didn't look at the site, couldn't get past this frightful use of the English language. Can you tell I have lots of Virgo in my chart?! LOL!

Heheh. Uhm... STARTING (out) - Maybe? :D
I think the point about not having all combinations available (made in the Aeclectic review) is indeed a valid one. The perennial problem seems to be simplifying (or facilitating) the mechanism of drawing cards. (Hmm... "Buckyball" dice maybe?) And reflects indeed a (my own) problem with a disciplined approach to the learning process? But handling 13 dice doesn't seem much easier than shuffling and dealing from a 78 card deck. Use a computer maybe? ;)
Aside: For a "daily card", I'm really seriously thinking of... Runes! })

Intriguing.
A bit expensive for my pocket right now.... but one day I would really like a set of these.
Thanks for that link, MM.

I ordered these a couple of days ago. They look very interesting, and I think that they might have the effect of honing the intuition (provided one is already familiar with tarot) because the dice can only suggest the meanings of the cards. The company is very responsive -- within minutes of ordering through PayPal, I received e-confirmation of my order from Tarotocy, with a very nice message. It will be interesting to see how the dice work.

They seem a bit pricy, and as the reviews state, one would need to sets to get complete readings, because if you have one set, the dic has 6 sides, so lets say one dice has 1 through 6 of swords. Well you would never get these combinations in any given reading unless of course one has two sets. And 60.00 plus 10.00 shipping, really is alot. Es[pecially when there are so many new and more desirable tarot decks being published frequently.

The tarot dice arrived two days ago and I've been experimenting with them. They are nicely produced and packaged (though the tube is large in order to accommodate the reading mat). They are interesting and fun, but will never take the place of cards, for all of the reasons people have mentioned above -- and, indeed, the booklet accompanying the dice advises newcomers to tarot to learn how to read the cards, themselves. But the dice are not merely gimmicks, in my view, as they are well made, with nice materials, and there is an overall sense of integrity about them. Tarotocy is a small company and I think that the price reflects production costs plus the need to make a profit -- a larger company could have produced and sold the dice for less. I think that $30 might be on the high side, and that $16-20 would have been more appropriate, but considering that this is a genuinely creative effort on the parts of only a few people, I don't mind having paid $30.

um... would it be that hard to make your own if they appeal?
and if they appeal why not take a look at divination through dicing? (im sure theres divination through dicing what was the comment about all gambling growing from divination? (not sure if i totally agree with that quote but nonetheless interesting)

Hi, Lunaperse. Certainly, you could make your own tarot dice if you had durable materials and were able to configure the shapes evenly, with equal weight distribution. I have heard about people divining with regular dice, though I don't know anything about how it's done. As others have pointed out, the thirteen tarot dice do not allow for every combination that a deck does, so for regular use the cards would be my tarot method of choice.
