Hi everyone
I just did a few readings at a medieval encampment. I found that if I did not go into postion meanings the reading seemed to go better for me. It seemed that the postion meanings where blurring my mind. That tarot readings can easier for me when I forgot the postion meanings. Are the postion meanings that important or is it the cards talking to me better. I am not sure how to handle this problem simple because the postions meaning confused me. Any help would be great.

you are one of the few who can read without positions and do not need them as some of us do.
you can lay down the cards in a group and see patterns and recieve message clearer.
but if you go into the celtic cross for example , your mind gets in the way ..
or rather your logic blocks your free flow inuition.
there is no set way to read the tarot as this stage you may try to read the tarot in the freeflow way if it comes easier to you.

Sometimes I read with positions applied, sometimes I don't.
Sometimes I need them to understand what I'm looking for, and sometimes I just want to "cast wide the net" and will therefore leave positions unassigned in order to see as much as possible.
If you know in your heart that you are getting the messages you need by following your own path ... regardless of what that is, I encourage you to continue with it!
Spirit, when at work, will often throw the "rules" right out the window. Best to approach reading with the same open-mindedness, I say.

nighthawk: Sounds like the Tarot and you have found your own special way of communicating with each other.
If you don't "need" the positions, well then forget about them! Sounds like freedom, to me!
You know, it's like when people read books. My mum, when she would read a book, would take about three times longer than I in order to read a page. I couldn't figure out why until I realised that she actually read every word aloud in her head. I tend to be reading the last word on the line before I've even read the first word, and sometimes my eyes are already on the line below, taking in stuff before I've actually read it.
But in the end, we both read the book, albeit in a different manner.

I don't think positions are neccissary. Sometimes I will just start flipping cards over, one on top of the next, reading just the little tid bit I get in the time it takes to flip the next card. Then there are the times when I throw some cards out & the "positons" come after.

Diana: Great analogy! I love it, it is perfect. There are so many different ways to read.
I only have to stop and ponder when a positive card comes up in an obstacle position - I stop and reconsider the whole spread at that point to get the overall idea. Then, it usually hits me like a bolt of lightening. There can be too much of a good thing (goofing off: 3 cups; pride: 6 of wands).
Haven't had my coffee yet, excuse me if I am slightly off the page...
Warmest,
Elle

I find that when I do a celtic cross or another spread that the cards just don't want to be read with position 1 meaning this or that. I find that a reading flows like a prefect river for me when I don't clutter my mind with postion meanings. But yet I was wondering if I was doing it right or wrong. I am yet but a babe in the waters still learning to swim and afraid of making a mistake. But yet the cards speak to me much clearer when not concerned about postions. When should I be concerned if I need to know postions? Or is the cards telling me to speack from the heart ,the mind and the cards? I felt less like I was going against the current and more like I was with the current. Thank you everyone with helping me in this dilema.

whew, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who finds the positions in spreads confusing sometimes. I too read without positions a lot of the times and find the flow of the reading much easier to understand.

I often give the positions to the cards as I take them from the deck, or write down positions for the question I have.
The ready-made spreads are very general and often don't work for me.
I also sometimes draw a few cards without any positions at all, but mostly I give my own positions to the cards.
(hope I describe it correctly and you all understand what I mean)

I and so glad there are some out there I can talk to about this. Now I know that I am not so different and that the cards are just speaking to me in the way they find it best for me to understand. Thank you for all the input on this. May everyone be blessed . Thank you.
