Thoth. Aiwass. 100 & counting

For those users of Thoth, who are also interested in the book of law, an interesting anniversary is fast approaching like a golden dawn. April, 8-9-10th 2004. On these dates it will be 100 years since the new aeon was heralded in.

How the world has changed in these first 100 years of the new aeon. Just 1 year into the new aeon, 1905, Einstein hit the scientific point of view for 6, as relativity was born.

Alas 100 years into the new aeon the world is in a sorry state. I guess with all the new abilities the new aeon has brought us, the first 200 years where going to be dangerous. The atom bomb, to name one obvious example.

I would guess these anniversary dates would be a good time for using the Thoth deck and also for channelling and pathworking.

Hi AmounrA, thanks for the heads up!

I am best friends with a Thelemite, so on April 9th this year, my boyfriend and I went round his house and we had a 'ceremonial' reading of the Book of the Law. I, being the only female there, was given the first chapter, my boyfriend had the second, and my friend had the third.

I was amazed at how much insight can be gained from hearing the Book of the Law read out loud.

I often wonder what the world will be like in another 100 years...

try living in the dark ages.

Rainforest clearances, massive pollution problems, high extinction rates, weapons of massive destruction, wars, genocide on a vast scale.

Sure in the western countries life is sheltered, but the dark ages we didn't have the vast amount of different technology we have today, designed to KILL people in all types of modern ways.

So I would say Humanity and the Planet are in more danger NOW than at anytime in human history, due to our actions and decisions.

Sanitary water, diseases cured on a wide scale, medicine, transportation, freedom.

People in the dark ages who lived in Europe prayed for Christ to come down and save them, not because they loved their religion but because they hated their lives. How would you feel if 3 out of every 4 children you had died before their fifth birthday, your livelihood is dependant on whether or not there's a good harvest this year. Oh and you never know when someone may decide to come along and kill you and take your belongings. Humans cannot exist in chaos for very long. Nothing can.

Most importantly the world is freer than it was. I would rather live free with the possibility of disastor than as a slave completely sheltered. I think anyone who feels the world is in awful condition really needs to take a look at the condition of the world just 200 years ago and really think about whether they'd rather live then or live now.

wars - always existed
genocide - way more prominent before the 20th century before the media existed.
extinction - at least we see it as a crime now whereas before people didn't really care.

The world isn't perfect, but I despise the point of view which states that we're somehow living in the worst times ever. The very fact that your belly is full and your typing at a computer and you're not being beaten by your government and tortured should tell you that, relatively speaking, times are pretty good.

But the point I think AmounrA is trying to make is that we're 100 years into what Crowley called the 'New Aeon', which is supposed to be a bit like the Era of Aquarius when such things as genocide, war, and famine, etc, are finally sorted out...

But it hasn't happened yet.

The Judgement card in the Tarot deck, especially the Thoth one (Which is called the Aeon) to me represents this rebirth of the Old Aeon as the New Aeon: the rebirth of the 'old world' as the 'new world' in which we will finally find some soultion to these problems.

AmounrA: My Thelemite friend is going to live in Egypt for a few years so that he can be in Egypt on the 100th anniversary of the revelation of the Book of the Law. I am beginning to wonder what it will be like in Egypt on the 8th, 9th, 10th of April next year!

Kiama and others...

Susan Jameson and John Bonner's Via Tarot is supposed to be out of such belief systems of Crowley...I saw the Book of Law and the Book of Thoth at a few stores, but decided to wait a bit.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up...I'm recomparing my new Via Tarot with my older Swiss version of the Thoth deck...as I just realized how much more brillant my AGM 1986 reprint was, even if it's three years old to me, out of the box.

JayKob, to us such problems as you list seem sad, but don’t despise me.

My point is this: the new technology comes at a price if abused. More people have died in wars since 1900 than in all previous wars COMBINED. The over use of anti biotic means that pretty soon they may no-longer work. Cars, planes , trains all emit toxins, as do the power plants and chemical industries. Remember the hole in the ozone layer did not happen in the dark ages. In much of Africa, Asia and South America, infant mortality is still very high. The modern timber industry machines destroy forests on a scale never known in human history. The modern fishing boats clear the oceans of fish on a scale never seen before. The Earth is under more stress from humans than at any point in its history. Also much of the world still doesn’t have fresh water, access to computers, full bellies and a life free from corrupt government…. so whilst, yes, for me personally life is good, for millions it is not.

As for freedom, don’t pay your taxes and you will soon see you are not that free.

Also, I don’t recall saying we are living in the worst times ever or even imply it. I did say we are in the most dangerous times ever; especially now the nuclear bomb is coming into the hands of more and more nations (India, Pakistan…perhaps N.Korea).

My thoughts where that the new aeon has given us abilities and powers never before held…and that these abilities can be, and in many cases are abused.

Kiama, Thank you. I am thinking of going to Egypt also for those dates, but it would only be for a week alas. I think Egypt will be a magical place to be on those dateJ (That if my new passport ever arrives!)

Just a quick question:

Where exactly was the Book of the Law received? Was it Cairo? And what is the name of the burial chamber Crowley and his new wife supposedly spent their honeymoon night in? And what was her name again? (Everyone forgets her name, but she was the one who technically received the BOTL)

Heres a long answer to your quick question :-)

Crowley married Rose Edith Kelly in 1903. On there honeymoon they spent a night in the King Chamber of the Great Pyramid. Here after an invocation, Crowley and Rose had a display of the ‘Ultra Violets’ see for Crowleys own words-. http://www.hermetic.com/crowley/confess/chapter46.html

In 1904, whilst on the couple 2nd visit to Egypt, Rose repeatedly fell into Trance states and received messages that the god Horus wanted to contact him. Crowley had rented an apartment there [address uncertain] To test Rose, Crowley to her to the Boulak Museum , to see if she would be drawn to Horus. Crowley says with humour how he was full of glee when she walked past several images of hours, oblivious. But then, Rose pointed out an exhibit across from them. She led Crowley to it. It was the ‘Stele of Revealing’.

This led Crowley to take Rose seriously. Upon her instruction, Crowley, in a room in his apartment, for 3 successive days from Noon until 1 p.m, [april 8-9-10], Crowley began writing words he was hearing from a presence behind him, called Aiwass [aka aiwaz]. The result was the 3 chapters known as ‘Liber AL vel Legis’. See for Crowleys own words - http://www.hermetic.com/crowley/confess/chapter49.html
