That looks like it could be really good. The only problem is I would have to add HBO to my cable mix....and is it worth it just for that?

I'd still rather do my readings in person with a physical rather than a virtual deck, but it seemed interesting. It could turn people on to Tarot.

It uses the mind/body/spirit spread, which is not a spread I tend to get along with well, so it seemed a little muddy to me. But the info seems good and as authentic as can be expected, and it's pretty nice for a free online reading.

There's only been a few threads about this so far. Search for "carnivale." Tarot is going to be featured in the premiere episode and HBO is also putting out their own deck.

Just have tried it now. It has a nice presentation and design. The readings are the same that in any other pre-generated page. But its worth a look.

At the end of the reading, you can link to www.tarot.com, so they are using the reading from Christine Payne Tower's general meanings if you use www.tarot.com's readings with 'karma" coins.

And they used the Rider Waite! I wished they used a mysterious or older deck, but it kind of looks retro 1900s, so maybe it's accurate.

I just saw the premiere episode of this show tonight, and tarot does indeed figure prominently in it.
The opening credits depict the antique-looking tarot deck, discussed in another thread, that is suspected to be a "prop" only.
In the show, one of the main characters is a fortuneteller. "Sophie" uses a Rider-Waite deck with French titling. She reads the cards accurately, using the basic card meanings.
And, yes, the Death card did come up in a reading--but at least she explained the actual meaning of the card.
:)
I'm wondering...was that how the Rider-Waite tarot looked in 1934? Was that plaid "tarotee" back on the original deck published by Rider? How about the colors we now see on the familliar deck in the yellow box?
Mind you, I'm not trying to poke holes in the show...it looks like it'll be an enjoyable series.
I'm just curious. ;)

She has so many Rider Waite variations, grouped by year. This is the card back page:

I guess a DeLaurence or Rider and Co version would have been popular. The plaid was U.S. Games, I think, after 1971?

I watched the opener, since I was in on the thread trying to id some of the cards. I, and one other person who shall remain nameless unless she chooses to name herself, bought the carnevale deck that HBO is selling. :)

Anyway, I think the opener shows at least one Osho Zen Card.

I watched a few minutes of the series, maybe 10-15...did it get better after that? I missed the fortune teller. It would be neat if a tarot reading was part of each episode.
