hi all! so the previous colorado post got me thinking. i've lived outside of philadelphia (PA) for five years and i've yet to find a really good metaphysical bookstore. in my previous homes, i've always had at LEAST one really good spot for tarot and texts. lately, this lack of options is really starting to bug me. i mean, a girl can't live at barnes and noble alone. shopping online is one thing but there's something special about a real live shop to pick through...SO...any wise forum readers out there who know of a little out of the way place in my area that i've missed?
please?
thanks,
emma
p.s. in every other shopping category i'm certainly holding my own. just ask visa.

Emma, I know what you mean. I live in Lancaster County, and before that Delaware County, and I have yet to find any shops! I can't believe that there isn't something worthwhile on South Street, though.... Maybe a day trip will be in order!

jeanette...
greetings from chester county! south street i've tried...and i'm not trying to be difficult or anything, but everything there seems to be overly-commercial. i mean, i drink coffee from starbucks and like borders so i'm not trying to make a big stand or anything...it's just that those shops (at least the ones i've been in--always room to learn new things though) seem to be high schooly-goth like when really all i want is a store with some nice witches and some nice books and things for spellworking. i could do with out the creepy stuff, you know.
but at least someone else is in my boat with me now!
cheers!

Emma, I haven't been to South Street, but I'll take your word on it and skip the day trip! There's a cute shop in Kennett Square (Crow Haven Corner) but there's not a whole lot of stuff in it. Especially not many books or tarot decks (but there are these really cool giant paper stars I've been looking at). Anyway, my idea of a great shop would be one that is LOADED with books and maybe has a few comfy chairs around to sit in and read, lots of herbs and crystals and incense and someplace that is bright and has parking and on and on..... I don't want much, do I? If I find that magical place I'll let you know!

If I am not mistaken, Diane Wilkes (webmaster of tarot passages) reads and teaches Tarot classes in Philli area, hold on while I check her site............

are any of these within your proximity??
Good luck ladies. You know, you could start your own Tarot Salon. There are a group of us around here that get together once a month or so. Each night we discuss and do a reading about a major archana card. We do group readings and then break out into 2s and do readings for each other. It is lots of fun.
Let us know if you find anything.
Take care,
Mimi

okay--
south street about 5th -- garland of letters. It's got a great lion statue outside and a wide selection of tarot and oracle decks inside. They've even got the Dali Deck.
And somewhere just off of south towards Bainbridge is a shop called 'The Hand of Aries'. Real witch shop with real practicing witches. Great buch of books and lots of Tarot decks-- even some used ones. But check for their address and when they're open. I can't always find it when I'm down there. You know how witches can be :)
happy hunting
fly well

ok. these were some seriously good tips.
nexyjo...i totally wish i had posted a week and a half ago because i went to new hope with my sweet fiance just last weekend! i didn't explore enough to get to those shops but i did find a really sweet necklace. ahh...sounds like a great reason for another day trip!
and thanks to ravenswing as well...i've been to both of those stores downtown and do remember now that i was impressed by hand of aries. you're definitely right about the hours and location though...do you think they magic the store away sometimes?
thanks really for posting at all...it's nice to know that they're people like me that i might be passing at any point in the day...blessings, blessings.
