Methinks "Charmed" and "Sabrina" did some nasty things to our society...
But then I went *gack* at the Star Trek outfits they put her and Ken in 3 years ago....maybe they're running out of ideas of who she can be?

you hit it on the dot hudsongray when you said "charmed". The hit t.v. show based on witchcraft (as well as the chick from buffy the vampire slayer) has really made wicca and witchcraft come into the open. Witches are at an all time high right now, with all the entertainment that television is providing on the subject, it's never been so easy to attain our materials, find books on hard to research subjects, and find other people that think and feel likewise (aeclectic). Is this a good thing or a bad thing though?
All of us are going to have our different views on the subject, but I personally feel that this is a good thing. It'll make the process of raising my children in witchcraft a lot smoother. She'll be able to play with dolls, read books, and find answers to the questions she has as she matures. She won't be as ridiculed when she gets older for believing in another type of spirituality other then christianity. Already people are beginning to accept that there are other spiritual paths, and that's ok. I do agree that for the majority of society, society turns it's nose on witchcraft. It's ok, I can't help but to laugh internally, not at them, but in a fashion where I think it cute in some kind of sick sense of humor.
So what do other people here think about this?

Oh my goodness, that is so adorable! I would have loved that when I was a kid.
It's a bit Sabrina-esque rather than true to life, but to be honest, it's a dressing-up doll that shows that alternative religions are acceptable and even 'cool'. I'm thinking Harry Potter might have been a major influence here, making magic marketable to young children without risking a lot of anger from parents.
Go Spellcaster Barbie! lol. xxx

Buy it, quick, before the fundamentalist protests of Middle America have her pulled from the shelf. Don't open the box, and keep it in a climate-controlled environment. Like Preggo Single Mom Midge, I sense hot collectibility in this one!

Ah, but where I am, Midge isn't a single pregnant mother - they've created a husband for her and drawn rings on their fingers! Kinda sad really.

Midge had a ring and a husband from the beginning, but because he was sold separately some people got up in arms. Walmart has a modified version of the doll that doesn't have the removeable pregnant belly and there is a cardboard cutout of the husband and son in the box with her.
I'm a Barbie collector as well as a Tarot collector. I haven't picked up the "Secret Spells" dolls, though, as they aren't really my thing.

Hi,
Went to Toy's R US, they said they had all the Secret Spell Barbies..HAHA..
THe only one they had was the typical Blonde Barbie..CASES OF HER..
So the little one got her doll...I am gonna order the other one online..(Christie...)
I am lucky, the girls know enough to realize this is just fluff and fun...Real Witches would have come with packets of flower seeds (not colored drink mix), instructions on rituals, candles and a pentagram...
Off to play barbies..

Barbie is my LEAST FAVORITE doll.......but in this instance my little one might actually get her first Barbie.
I cringed when she asked for Barbie panties (eeewww)
I guess maybe they chose pink to make her less "witchy". It will be interesting to see if I am able to locate one in where I live.
She love's HP and is actually dressing as (go figure) a witch tomorrow for trick or treat. ;)

Remember Bewitched? They also have a Barbie Bewitched Doll. Pretty cool huh? This Barbie is in all black with the witchy hat though... I dont dig the pink on barbie, wish it was a different color but I still think it's cool.
I agree that some of those shows are good for Wiccans but then also there is part of me that worries a bit too. I think that those shows increase our dabblers and some immature action with the knowledge. Although, I can't lie, I am more thankful that it is comming out of the closet to society than I am worried about dabblers. It will make things easier for our children in the future.

Oh, the same thing happened with the Harry Potter movies that came out--suddenly the boards were FULL of 12-15 year olds wanting to ride a broom, asking what the words were to levitate things, how to start fires....
Most disappeared when people patiently explained what the REAL stuff was like, that it's not Hollywood & all, actually not much of anything physical that manifests. Any that stuck around would be patient enough to learn the real deal, so that part was ok.
