Since I joined this site, we have looked at tons of ‘Bad News’ for and about witches.
But now there is a breath of fresh air…
Until I read the last sentence…tell me she’s joking…

Why did no one ever tell me?
I've been sitting on my broom the wrong way. No wonder it never leaves the ground. :D

Now - not being a witch I couldn't possibly vouch for this information but common sense would dictate that she is right. My understanding of the [or one of the] original functions of the broomstick would, following the laws of nature, dictate that the twiggy end needs to angle upwards.

It seems to me that, aerodynamically speaking, the broom would be much more stable in flight with the brush end in back. Also would make for better gas mileage.

I've seen pictures showing it both ways--painted/drawn in the 17 & 1800's, so who knows which is actually accurate. Do you know those black pointy hats, historically, are what the Jewish money changers wore in the 1600's? That's another mix-up with how we think of witches in current times.

Out of all the possible reasons she could have picked to show how Harry Potter was unrealistic, she picked that one??!!!
Oh well, I suppose this shows an increasing tolerance, at least in Norway, for Witchcraft. Long may it continue!

It still amazes me that one can say "Witch" and not be hung!

For some reason when I read that last sentence, I thought of a paint brush. Who knows?

She was just kidding!
And the journalist (as journalists tend to) jumped onto her joke to make a "good" article.
And to make her sound like an idiot, I suppose.

Nope, no joke. The broomstick is also a rather, er, potent phallic symbol, and the correct way to show it is broom twigs forward.

There are a lot of FUN images with witches flying either backwards or forwards... Goya, Durer, Baldung Grien (But I tend to agree they should be flying broom twigs to the fore!) But herewith one of my own favourites (from 1451!): In the second instance... Look Ma - No twigs! Perhaps it's the "stealth" version? :D

Well, some people are hung. But they have to be men... ;)
