... to start reading for the public? I really love tarot, and I don't think I'm terrible - I wouldn't say I was more than a novice, but I haven't predicted any deaths yet! (lol.)
I was just wondering what you guys thought? Do you read for the public? What reactions did you get? And do you think I'm good enough - I'd hate to scare people by getting readings wrong.
Thank you, Luv, Fi. xxx

Yes, I've read for the public, although I've never charged. I'd had varied reactions from: "huh?" to "you are so accurate you scare me". Um, I think my real abilities lie somewhere inbetween lol. What I meant by that example is that.... a large part of how the reading goes depends on the querent. Sometimes you will get someone who really will agree w/whatever you say, or won't agree to anything b/c deep down, they are afraid of tarot or do not like to think symbolically/metaphorically or whatever. So choose your querents carefully!!! :)
As for trying out your skills.... I would recommend trying out the exchange forum since ppl who come here are generally pretty accepting of tarot ^_^

Dark_angel, I think that you are a very insightful and sensitive reader. I always enjoy and benefit from your posts, which are invariably thoughtful, sensible and perceptive. I think that the public will be well served by your readings, and I wish you great success in those endeavors!

Thanks for your advice and encouragement. I'm going to start small, maybe find a local coffee shop or something (NOT Starbuck's - I've read the story!) - there's a couple of small independent ones that I think might have me for the odd afternoon.
I'll have to see how it goes...

Dark_Angel: I would say if the thought occurs to ye & the urge is present, then now is the time to try your hand. Ye have a natural intuitiveness which would be enhanced & developed further by the experience of reading for others.

MM dark_angel,
There have been various threads full of advice maybe you want to check them out with the search function. There were so many threads I cannot recall them all by heart but I think they will be interesting for you.

I think we can only learn by doing, doing and doing. Unfortunately, some have to be the guinea pigs.
May be you can say that you're a novice "reading for the public" but my experience is that, when we broacast too much that we are beginners, people don't take the experience as seriously as it requires for them to benefit from it.
Good luck, and keep us posted.
Alex.

I began reading for others when I was 18. It took me years to develop any real ‘skill’ or ‘sense’ (or grasp) of what I was really doing. Some never find that spot within…
So begin now. But please take what you are about to do very very seriously. Divination is not a parlour game. You are dealing with real people, with real problems in their very real lives.
There are also some very scary unstable people out there who will want to take advantage of you.
But it’s all part of the learning process…
There’s a lot more involved in reading for others than reading for others…and the sooner you begin, the sooner you will be good at it – and be a benefit to and for others.
Pick up the cards…go read…now…

Thanks Dark_angel, for posting this questions, because I'm also planning to start reading professionally, and I'm not very sure where to start (besides going to caffes).
I also know I'm not a bad reader (I have my days), so I started thinking to make a loving out of tarot (as a part-time for now, I still need my day-time job...).
Thanks for all the advice you gave.
Anjo
