I want to share something special with the group. My mother and I spent many years in a difficult relationship with one another, until the past few years. 3 years ago, after I began reading Tarot again, I introduced my mom to it. I was hesitant at first because of our Christian faith and the flack I thought I might get from her, but she was having a hard time with something and I really wanted to reach out to her and show her this beautiful gift I had found; SO I DID a reading for her. SHE was amazed and immediately wanted to know more. That was the beginning of what would become a bond between us that has grown beyond my farthest dreams. Now we do readings every week together on the phone. The amazing thing that happens to us is that we will often get the same cards in the same place on various readings. We usually get at least one matching card, and always get at least symbiotic cards that means similar things. IT IS a real blessing and TRULY amazing the psychic link we share. I wondered if anyone out there has a similar experience with a family member or loved ones who reads Tarot, and getting these amazing symbiotic readings? PLEASE SHARE.
Blessings. :)

My mother doesn't read tarot but cartomancy. As far as I remember, she has always done stuff like that, including pendulum, clairvoyance, spiritual stuff. To me, my mother is a great wise teacher and I wish I would be more like her. It is great to be raised so liberaly and to be given the opportunity to try similar things will full understanding and cooperation. I can always talk to her and share my experiences with her. It is a good thing for her as well because she never had a relationship like that with her family or friends. We are very close. She's always happy to be the guinea pig when I buy a new deck but, unlike me, she's never been interested in tarot.

It is a blessing to be raised by an open-hearted Mother, it sure does go a long way to help one become that way also. My mom and I have been collecting decks. For her birthday I got her the Connolly deck, and I gave her my Hudes deck because I felt she would enjoy reading from more than I did.
Thanks for sharing Wolf James.

If my mother knew I read Tarot she'd have her priest come over and throw holy water on me. You are very lucky to have such an open relationship. Enjoy each other.

Sorry Lark. That sounds like what my aunt would do. I am aware how precious it is to share this bond with mom and I am forever grateful.

My family bond with Tarot cards is with my sister (sagitarian at this site).
My sister began reading cards years before I did, and has always been my preferred reader.
For years, I debated whether or not to even buy a deck of my own, since I almost always went to her if I felt I needed a reading.
But, of course, I'm glad I did eventually buy my own. Now, we talk decks sometimes.
Parentals are strange, aren't they? My mom has a passing interest in anything ... call it "supernatural". My dad, however, would shake his head and scoff. The best thing about being grown up is no longer caring what your parents think, though. ;)

Indigo Rose,
It is definitely inspirering to hear that Tarot has helped bring you and your mother together again. I have read often in these forums stories like Larks where people have to keep these things from their family. This was very nice to hear.
Well, I was inspirered to read the cards because my Aunt did. Since I was a child it always interested me. Especially this one time when I was quite small. We were at my Aunt's house visiting and I saw my Aunt giving my Mom a reading. I remember my Mom hugging my Aunt Nancy and saying how much the reading had helped her. I knew that I wanted to help people too.
It wasn't until years later I bought my first deck. About a year and a half ago to be exact. My family is thrilled! My Aunt Nancy jokes that she can retire now!
I am very lucky to have grown up in such an open minded and supportive family. Hearing other people's stories here at Aeclectic has made me appreciate that even more.

I have a 16 year-old son. He has expressed an interest in Tarot and I do readings for him, and with him. I allow him to Read from a few of my choice decks. He says he is not ready to get his own deck yet, which I see as wisdom. He is a Pisces Rising and very impressionable. However, when the time is right I will get him his first deck and give him the gift of TAROT.

I'm envious. If my mother knew I read Tarot cards, she'd make fun of me and if my MIL knew.....she's call her pastor, burn my house down, and blame me for everything (oh wait, she does that anyway) })

It's great to see that you can share this with your son as well and that the tarot passion in the family will go on.

My mom and I learned together, from the same teacher. Her first deck was the Morgan Greer, which she would share with me sometimes. But, now when I say that, she gets upset and claims she taught me. I don't know why, but she is known for being the Queen of Denial. So I just never mention it.
However, the last couple of years I can't get her to read. I don't know if she's just lost interest or what.
My son is interested mildly in Tarot, and when he shows more than a passing curiosity, I'll give him a deck and pass it on...

My mother always has had interest for tarot, spirituality and so on. I tried to learn years ago but not very seriously.
This current year my mother was taking some classes, after i decided to learn too.
More strange is my father has started a course this past month. He was the most atheist and skeptic person i've never knew. Its kind of funny but strange when he comes home and starts to talk about tarot, good is my relation with him is getting better now.
The three starting in the same year... now only my brothers are left.
