Ok this may seem like a strange subject but I'm gonna post it anyway. Controversial replies are still welcome. Isn't that what makes a discussion??
Has anyone ever read the cards and realised that a major World event was going to happen? e.g War, 9/11, etc etc

Hi Moonbow,
I do not know of anyone having predicted major world-affecting events personnally, nor any history or tale about it.
But it seems to me that this certainly should be possible!
When we are with our cards and connected to our intuition, we have access (limited through our own limitations, fears, beliefs) to the universal knowledge (Akasha?) which is "out of time" (it simply is, without relation to past, present or future).
So, here we are with our potential access to every though that ever has been thought or will be thought, every wish that ever has been made or will be made, every word that ever has been spoken or will be spoken, every action that ever has been taken or will be taken... All this is pure energy, so if we have our "canal" fully open to this energy, why shouldn't we catch the vibes of the time - the quality of the moment?
Right, most of us, including especially myself, have "enough" (if not to say too much :D) mental activity to block out pure intuition. OK, some things DO break through, and there are days it works better than others, and so on.
My hypothesis / question is - if we work on our aperture to intuition and higher consciousness (of course with pure hearts and without any abusing of our knowledge, condition important!) - would we have more access to Akasha and thus be able to pick up warnings before catastrophes happen?
Lots of light and love to all

Hi Simone
What you've said is very deep, but i think we're on the same lines. My view is that when we do a reading (maybe for ourselves) we try to ralate it to our own little life/family/work etc. Maybe there is a bigger picture that we just miss somehow?

I have often wondered this...My opinion, and I am often wrong is that there has to be some sort of personal relationship between reader and querent. Now, one can argue that Ok Tallarico lives close to New York or so and so lives in NY so perhaps they had a kind of relationship...
Or perhaps just posing the question forms the relationship...And then there is that 3 party reading relationship, and how dare me for asking, it is none of my business, so cards won't tell, or even a reading that says non specific DANGER in this area. Yet again, it may also depend upon how one poses the question...
To add to all this "mental activity" in my brain, I believe in the Akashic records and portals too. So my opinion is... possibly...
HTH, but probably confuses everyone more!

The Tarot knows everything. War, earthquakes, famines, you name it, the Tarot knows.
But to get specific answers to our questions, we need to ask specific questions. If you're going to ask something like "will there be a war soon", obviously the Tarot will say yes, because there's always a war going on somewhere. Or an earthquake, or a famine.
So to ask questions about world events, you first have to know something about the world you're living in. Because wars, famines, earthquakes - they're already in the making. They don't just spring up from one day to the next.
The terrible hardship going on in Zimbabwe, for instance, I read in the cards a long time ago, when I asked about the future of Mugabe in the last "elections". But I asked that question because it was pretty obvious that there was trouble in the making. Of course, if Mugabe had died of a heart attack or something (unfortunately, he didn't), then the future I had read in the cards would have been different.
For instance, I want to go to the UK next summer with my kid. I will be doing a reading in the spring as to whether it will be safe to go through London or not (because I know that there are bomb attacks being planned). If the cards show me "danger", I will fly to Liverpool or Manchester instead.
Now, if anyone wants to know whether there will be more attacks in New York, or Washington or whatever - the cards will tell you. If you want to know whether the SARS epidemic will be back soon, you can do the same. But sometimes that type of reading can raise so much fear in the reader that it is not worth it, because there is nothing you can do about it..... And also because fear is a very negative vibration which does not help the world. It is better to send a lot of healing love out to the world, and that can be done without reading the cards.

When 9/11 happened, I remember watching it and feeling déja vu. Almost like I'd experienced it in another time, or dreamed it. I did a reading afterwards asking if it would cause war (I'm not talking like, the war against terrorism or Iraq. I'm talking like the possibility of WW3, drafting, terrible things like that). I got good results. Actually that's one of the first good readings I remember doing, it was when I first started reading. I shared it with others on the Bolt boards and they got the same thing. I was glad for that. We didn't have another world war, the nation didn't fall to pieces, no one got drafted (as far as I know), and my boyfriend was alright. I remember being worried about him, living in the States. That doesn't mean I agree with the wars that did take place, but those who participated chose to, and the wars were kept in the areas in question--not widespread.
I don't remember which cards I got though :)

Yes, you can predict world-impact events. I have done so. There are some things to consider.
FIRST, as Diana noted, the question works better when a named figure is involved such as a president or dictator. This provides some focus for the question. For instance, I had asked whether Saddam would be killed or continue in some role during the several months following the war.
SECOND, the spread has to support the nature and complexity of the question and surrounding events. For the DC Sniper, UN votes (both ocurring last fall) and the nature of the Iraq invasion (late last winter) I used the House/Horoscope spread. This spread permitted house meanings and aspects to be added to the card meanings and gave good answers.
THIRD, as noted earlier, you have to have a feel for the events and players that are part of the place-time prior to the reading. Just asking about wheter there will be wars or forrest fires or famines isn't appropriate for a question. The question has to recognize the current and developing situation and allow for focusing in on specific criteria.
Of course, my first tool for prediction is Astrology, mostly because of its precise timing. But sometimes it is the wrong tool; Tarot can ask and answer specific questions quite well without having to have a root chart or "birth" time or event time. I often use both tools to explore events. We can consider looking at a potential or developing event as a seperate thread. I just caution everyone that we should choose carefully for this type of group exploration. Everyone can use their own approach, they just have to post the spread and their interpretation and then be patient as event actually play out. Dave.
