Are candles lit for a reading, or a crystal sitting on a table make any differences in a reading? I don't use any, mabee some crystals in my pocket but not the rest.

I used to light one candle on either side of my reading area to relax me during a reading. But it doesn't seem to matter to me too much anymore.

I used to light a white candle for my readings. I had to stop that after I was reading for a friend one night and accidentally knocked the candle over. Melted wax went all over the soft spread cloth my mother had made for me. I was able to get the wax out with an iron, but the cloth hasn't felt the same in those spots since so I ditched the candles. :)

I love to have candles and crystals on my table when I do readings for the public.
No real reason...
they don't really add anything to the reading...
...except for maybe a little drama!
(Sometimes I just like to be flashy!)
Having both candles and crystals tends to clutter up my table..(like having my lithomancy stones, 3 oracles and 6 tarot decks doesn't!)
Although I hate to admit this...I have actually set myself on fire...not once...but twice while reading cards! (talk about being flashy! Now for your Entertainment...The Amazing Fire-Proof Psychic! Ta -Da!)
So maybe having the open flame isn't always a good thing!

They make a difference if you think they do. I like to light candles and sit in front of my alter with crystals and stones and the like to do readings, but I am just as comfortable at a restaurant table.

I always use candles and stones on my table when I read in public or private. I fact I carry stones right in my wooden box that house the tarot cards. I also carry a little jar candle with a lid so can read anywhere. Yep, I have everything in my purse but the kitchen sink. Yes, candles make a difference for me, I purify the cards over the flame.

I usually don't use candles for my readings, unless I want to set a certain kind of mood. When it's a big reading for me, that's when I whip out the props - candles, incense, etc. But for more regular readings, I just spread 'em out on the living room floor with little ritual.
I really don't think candles are necessary, unless you want them for a particular reason. My tendency to not use them is probably also related to the fact that my kitty likes to play on the cards and might knock over any nearby candles.

I am a candle addict... I love the scented ones and find any excuse I can to burn. :D
Readings are a perfect time because candles (especially scented ones) help relax and open the mind. I think they help set the mood.

I think its all about creating the right atmosphere for yourself.
I read mainly for myself at the moment. I ususally, light a small candle and some incense (ususally Nag champa) then I meditate if its not too noisy in the house! and try to relax. I think this really does help me to read the cards, but thats probably because it relaxes and focuses me

I usually have candles lit most of the time anyway, just because I love them so much. I don't light any specifically for a reading, if I don't already have one burning, I just read without it. My Tarot cards are so much a part of me that readings aren't any different than the myriad of other things I do everyday.

I like candles simply to provide ambience. Music in the background is also desirable.

I like candles too, and like you Majecot, any excuse to burn one is good for me.
Sometimes if I'm feeling frazzled before I read I light a candle and concentrate, just so I can focus a little, and dampen down the constant brain activity.
