Could be a bad decision.....

Hi everyone!

I've been a memeber here for some time now and I absoutly love all the great advice everyone gives! It's so wonderful to see such a close knit group of people helping and encouraging each other learn and grow!!

While I've been using the same deck for quite some time now I'm ready to begin searching for a new deck. And while I have a few decks already in mind, my bank account is more or less, empty. But while I was looking for my misplaced cards I had remembered a thread on Aeclectic that talked about using battle and dueling cards as tarot cards. so I grabbed my Yu-Gi-Oh cards and started flipping through them.

The thing is I have to give a reading at a little party tomorrow, it's my first time and I'm kinda nervous. I've gone through my Yu-Gi-Oh cards and I've sorted out the ones that remind me best of a normal tarot deck but I'm not sure how well this will work. But I don't think I can go back to my old deck seeing as how I just don't click with them anymore. I've tried several daily readings with them and nothing's happened, but I want to do really well at this party, where I'll probably do 7-10 readings. At this point I'm probably rambling so I'll just leave it at that...should I use my old cards and hope that things will work out or is using my Yu-Gi-Oh dueling deck something I should explore...?

P.S. I've gotten ok daily readings from that one, but nothing from my old one.

Celtic_Dragon: Thanks very much for the glowing praise for Aeclectic Tarot! The qualities cited are what make us a unique & viable community.

Whilst ye still have time, *do* explore using the Yu-Gi-Oh deck as a Tarot/oracle deck (Tarot is an oracular tool). Your idea is very creative! Actually, any thing that can trigger the imagination, the associations or symbols can used as an oracle. (Which is why clouds, the pattern of leaves, shadows, etc lend themselves well to this also.)

Then take *both* decks with ye. Do not go forth expecting limitations or restrictions. Ye may find that in an active reading environment with potential clients, it may spark the means to use either or both decks. Ground & center; trust in the self & expect that your inner sense of balance will come to the fore.

& good fortune-telling to ye!

I must admit that I'm not familiar with the Yu-Gi-Oh deck at all. But, then that's not really the point. I'd say that if you see a connection between it and the tarot, and you feel more comfortable using that, then go for it! MeeWah's suggestion of taking both decks with you is a good one though--you never know how things'll go or what mood you'll be in once you get there.

Thank you both for the confidence booster! I agree totally, I'm going to take both with me and even allow the quarents to have a choice. With some of them having children they may find it more entertaining that I'm using the cards their kids collect.
Thanks! I'll let you know how it goes!!

Celtic_Dragon: Yes, please let us know how it goes!

A first-time group reading experience is memorable; marks a turning point in the reading process.

Yu-Gi-Oh?

Anyone care to throw me a clue over here???

I could use one....

You know the game Magic?
Well, I believe since that game many other companies have joined in the card trading/playing business....So now there's Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Digimon, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter all kinds. Well, in the Oracle section, I saw this thread talking about taking the dueling decks and turning them into oracle/tarot cards for reading...so I thought I'd give it a try.

I'm trying to gather my thoughts about what I see in each card but with anticapating my first reading I'm a bit nervous and it's hard to concentrate. though I'm trying to not wear myself out.

Did I clear anything up??

Yeah, I think so.

I'm picturing trading cards with Pokemon looking cartoon creatures....

But, I *love* the idea that you're so creative about finding Divination means! I think that's fabulous (even if I still don't know what a real Yu-Gi-Oh looks like) :D

Use the cards you know, to be confident. It is like wearing a brand new pair of shoes to go dancing in the first time. Yes they look good, it is a lot of work and you just are not comfortable........wondering why you did such a lame brain thing? Heres hoping you do not get blistered.

Good Luck!

Well, I'm back from my reading! And boy am I exhausted!

I was a little disapointed at first because there were only a few people that had shown up (like 5), and some of them I had already done personal readings for practice. (close friends and relatives) So it wasn't quite an official, formal, group reading like I had hoped but it allowed me to feel better about the whole situation. I told them about bringing the two decks and that they could choose from either one. Being friends and all they humored me and I did the first reading of the night with the Yu-Gi-Oh deck. I say humored b/c, my best friend (the hostess) asked a question most of us already knew about and kinda already had an idea of it's outcome....Suprisingly though it wasn't my last reading with that deck...seems as though they thought it was a blast to see me read with cards that were intended for something entirely different....especially when I started to get really accurate. I mean kinda spooky accurate....this also kept the party going. By the end of the night I did at least 2 readings each and some 3 so I might as well have had a full all-out party.

But I'm definately hooked!!! I've got a new deck and I can't wait to start adding to it. I mean, tarot and life are all about change right? so why can't we change our decks every now and then? Why have just the single same set of 78 cards? Yea, I guess that's where we get our tarotohalic fever but hey........whoo hoo!
