Is it time to move on?

This may be a weird question, but here goes. Me and my Buckland Romani have had a beautiful relationship. I've used it throughout the past two years (on and off) but moreso in the past few months. But the past few weeks...I don't know the spark is gone. I don't feel like I get that spark of intuition anymore with it. I love the deck, but I feel like it might be time to move on to another deck. (I have several others) So, I was wondering if any of you had similar situations. Where your deck just wasn't cutting it for you anymore?

This seems to be a common experience, and one that can be very upsetting. I think that perhaps our own vibrational rate changes, and we move "out of sync" with a particular deck. Often, weeks or months (sometimes years) later, we return to the deck and respond to it again on another level; and occasionally we just have to move on. Invariably, though, when that happens, another deck that we resonate with fills the void.

I understand completely. I used the Robin Wood for many years, and did literally thousands of readings with it. I loved it dearly. Then, one day, I just didn't want to read with it anymore. It seemed too simple (or something). So I figured it just needed a rest, so I ordered it and put it away in it's hand-made velvet bag, and tucked it inside a carved wooden box with its crystal and a special amulet. And I haven't had the slightest urge to use it again. I just think I've outgrown it, but I can't seem to bring myself to get rid of it.
Same for an old Thoth deck (the giant one). I got it for my 14th birthday from my mom, and loved it a lot. Then last year, a friend gave me the mini sized one, and I like it so much more - especially one particular version of the Magus. So I never use the old one, but I've had it so long, and it's a gift, so I can't get rid of it. Sigh.
Put your baby away for a while, and maybe one day you'll open it up and it will be like it was brand new again.

Wow. Like the Hermit card it may be the time for you to change decks to futher your enlightenment.

This sounds like most love relationships, the thrill is gone, there is no desire. Are you taking each other for granted? I would cleanse my cards and tell them that you love them.

It's funny how you mentioned how it was like a love relationship. It kind of felt like breaking up with a boyfriend (I even wanted to say, it's not you, it's me.) I almost felt guilty for putting the deck away. But I just put it in its bag along with a peice of rose quartz to help cleanse it. And it's sitting on the shelf. For some reason I got out my Universal Waite deck and started working with it, and I felt like I got my spark back. Which is funny because about 6 months ago I had put the Waite deck away and I started reading with my Buckland Romani deck for the same reasons. I think we just needed to take a break from each other. But thanks everyone for the advice. It's good to know I'm not alone or crazy. :)

Love and Light,

You know, I've seen many people get worried about changing their current decks because they don't "sync" with them anymore, but they seem to have a pattern. I wonder if anyone who has created a deck themselves feel the same way? or do they put so much of themselves into their unique decks that they no longer need another deck. Is this true or am I jumping through hoops??

P.S. I'm creating my first deck (see New Feng Shui Tarot) and I'm kinda hoping it'll be the last one I use. But not buy ;)

Well you know I found myself feeling this way about our Thoth decks, and had turned to other decks for most of my readings of late, but then I decided to keep our spare Thoth at my desk where I write. Since then I've really connected with it many times.

I tend to decide to do a reading, and then proceed with whichever deck seems to cry out--use me!

So I'd suggest that you keep your Romani where you can find it--in case you feel nostalgic now and then, and so you can hear it if it calls.

Aw I hope I never stop clicking with my deck. I love my Hudes!

Logiatrix  03 Nov 2003
Hi, destiny!
That happened with me and my Visconti Gold recently...
It's not that we didn't *click* anymore, it's just that I've been *clicking* more with a couple of other decks!
Also, I'm concerned about preserving it, since it's kind of irreplaceable and special to me. Therefore, the VG is retired to it's box, coming off the shelf only for the occasional bout of nostalgia, as Nevada34 has suggested.
Right now, I'm quite happy with my Animal-Wise Tarot, another long-time companion that seems to be working especially well for me lately.
The Tarot of the Cloisters has the same "feel" as the VG when I read with it. This pleases me very much, because this deck is so much more vibrant; it'll be great if it continues to *click* with me!
Then, there's my brand-new Shakespeare Oracle...
So you see, it's not such a bad thing, when you think about it...there's so many wonderful decks out there to choose from, that if it's just a matter of "which deck next," then I'm glad to suffer the numerous choices! :P

I had a similar experience with my Hudes deck. I worked in 2001 until summer exclusively with this deck but then I needed a bread until fall 2003 and now it is in use again and works as we had never "parted" for some time.

I think when the spark is gone it is time to , not retire them, but give them a little vacation. Sometimes after a break, when you look at them again, they will seem brand new and the spark reignited!

VGimlet  18 Nov 2003
Oddly enough, something like this is how I sort of fell (or is that tripped?) into collecting decks.

I'd had my Aquarian Tarot for many, many years but for several months I didn't feel like I was connecting with it any more, like I'd used it all up. We were scheduled to go to New Orleans on vacation, and I thought "Hmmm, cool, get a new deck while I'm there."

When I saw the huge number of decks available, I came home (with a couple) got online...and here I am, a two years and, many, many decks later. :D

This could be subtitled, Don't let this happen to you, LOL

I think it's cyclical, like everything else in life. There have been more than a few times that I just didn't think I'd ever want to read with a particular deck again, only to have a new perspective or desire rear it's "ugly" head. ;-) Keep your deck for now. Put it away and evaluate things at a later date. You'll always be able to trade it.

I don’t understand the ‘not in sync’ thing myself.

I had one and only one deck for twenty-nine years. Now I have somewhere around twenty. I read with what ever I pick up.

IMO, and it’s opinion only mind you – I think it’s ego talking. It ain’t the deck, it ain’t the higher self or any vibrational level…it’s ego talking. Work through it.

Cassiopeia  18 Nov 2003
Umbrae, my tarot teacher said the same kind of thing. Her goal was that we will be able to pick up any deck and read it. Kind of like; tarot is a language of numbers and colours and symbols that you learn to read and become fluent in, it isnt a memory test.

Having said that, I have recently been buying more decks, and choosing to read with different ones for different kinds of readings. I did that to stop myself getting complacent, and to be honest, to break out of boredom and routine. For me, having a few decks to change between has been good, seeing all those familiar characters in a new light.
