Do you the tarot deck/cards or style..maybe even an oracle in the mix that expresses:
Where you were at a significant time
in the past
Who I Am Now
What I Am Going Toward
Or
What I Am Returning To....
This is kind of a pre-winter reflection near the end of the year...
----------------------------------------
In a few mini-trips recently I packed more than one deck--my decks take up more room than my clothes:
Where I was/felt: my Six of Cups deck
Small Valentina Visconti that I got in a trade offline--into line drawings and sweet styles, some classic and romantic elements (we were going to a wedding...). It suited the nostalgia of seeing older cousins and children ranging from seven to college graduate. I packed one of my Viscontis for comparison if I wanted history and Dummett's paperback Visconti book...kind of like a comfort zone backup to have something older than me around...
Where I am: My Two of Cups energy
I wanted to work on poems and a storyline, so it was Tarot of the Gothic Vampires and Roots of Asia. Trying to balance the dark and somber with a sense of detachment...also cause the nice cousin social hat isn't my every day mode.
Going toward: My Four of Swords rest area
I still am working on Egyptian ideas and tarot allegories, so I had the Book of Doors and Lo Scarabeo Ancient Egyptian with Alasia/Wegnar and the book with the deck.Turns out I'm dipping into this a little at a time for a peaceful feeling.
Just having the variety helped me regain my sense of balance! And now I fell happier to returning to my earlier ideas...
Returning: My Hermit's repose
I've returned to Mantegna sets (Dal Negro's uncolored prints and Lo Scarabeo's Silver), Taviglione's very pretty Celestal Portal (Tarocchi of the Stars) and the book Pagan Dream of the Renaissance. It refreshes me to not be doing unpaid work overtime and having a refreshing brain game outlet...also inspirational for art ideas...

Hi Mari,
Wow, that was like doing a spread with whole decks instead of single cards - v. interesting post, thank you.
You must have the most fantastic collection of decks, literally one (or more) for every occasion, mood, phase of life etc.
I have just about a dozen decks and because I'm just learning, couldn't really use them in that way yet - I think what you outlined comes from a lot of Tarot use and practice and huge familiarity with your decks. I did buy Tarot of a Moon Garden though (I know, I know, pretty fluffy) to take as a comfort deck on a trip I was nervous about, and I think it helped.
One thing I'd especially like to ask you - how did you use Tarot of the Gothic Vampires and Roots of Asia for your poems and storyline. Do you use the images for the poems, pull cards to clarify the storyline, or what. I'm hoping to use Tarot to move along some pieces of writing I've been working on, so would be interested in knowing how others approach this.
Blessings,
Kate

No I don't have a very big collection, but I rotate and give away, so I do post about different decks every week or so. Many of the contemporary ones, I 'used to have'.
Making space for books or decks, I usually choose decks with books. I cleared out this year, a total of nine office size boxes of books, decks, magazines and other things, including art supplies in media that I don't use anymore. I bought small storage containers and one bookcase and cleared out my closets and drawers, even gave away furniture. Many of my finds this year have been used.
So I admitted to myself what I love and made space for it. I'm doing my pre-soltices look-see for year's end in my spare time throughout December and January--hence the inventory and rediscovery!
Thanks for the comments...
Best wishes,
Mari H.
