Hi All,
I am a fresh beginner of Tarot, I am just learning by myself, can anyone share their experience when they first met Tarot, how can you use it or learn it by yourself?
Thanks for your precious advice.

Hello :o)
Maybe you should start with Major Arcana and practice some spreads with them. I remember when I started learing myself I wanted to do everything at once. It didn't really work. Then I forgot about Tarot for few years. I decided to go back to it but then I was taught by a person that has been doing those things for about 20 years. She taught me A LOT. But we did it very slowly. We studied the meanings of cards in positive and reversed positions. First Major then Minor. We, of course practised some spreads along the way. Simple ones. She always said to go home, do a spread and if I didn't know how to interpret it , leave it as it is and approach it in some time. It worked. You will just have to get to the point when cards will start "speaking" to you. Take your time :o).
Have fun!!!

My experience with tarot started off very informally years ago. I was in a stage when tarot meant something very 'magical' and 'witchy'. I bought a starter deck and played with it, not getting very far.
The second stage was when I started to take it more seriously. I bought the Ancient Italian Tarot, and studied the major arcana, since the drawings appeared more attractive. I did daily readings with it, pulling out one card. I read some articles online, and from some tarot books (esp. the one on Tarot Reversals).
Then, I looked at the minor arcana, and started doing readings with everything together. Although sometimes I may need to refer back to the books, I'm basically alright with doing readings. I do them for friends, using simple spreads - nothing complicated as yet. It's a step by step process.

If I was to start from the beginning again I would take draw one card a day & learn it's meaning & then at the end of the day see how it compared with me life that day. Take notes!!!

Draw a card from which ever deck is speaking to you every day, and look at it.
Write down your thoughts in your own Tarot journal. Start one if you haven't yet, it will make your intention to learn more personal, as well as more concrete and real. And, it will provide plenty of opportunity for you to keep track of your thoughts as they evolve in time.
Keep all your readings at three cards or less for the first few months, I would advise even longer than that.
Read for yourself only once or twice a week, if at all.
Read for your friends as much as you want, it's the best way to really learn.
Rely on your instincts and your own intuition more than book knowledge, every time.
And enjoy the path! :D

I was introduced to the Tarot by a lady who lived in my apartment building. I was intruigued by her, and got up the courage to go and meet her. She turned out to be a very interesting character, and she taught me about Wicca, Astrology, and the Tarot.
She didn't teach me by lessons or assignments, she just did readings on me, and let me watch her do readings on others, and told me to find the meaning out of the pictures. It clicked instantly; it felt like I had done it before, and just forgot.
I was really lucky.

My mother-in-law introduced me to Tarot and I feel very happy and proud that I continue the Tarot tradition in our family and also feel very privellaged. My m-i-l is a very well respected and exceptional reader.
Everyone's suggestions have been great. I found writing down all the cards I drew, spreads for myself and others in my journal invaluble. I kept my first journal for about 7 years and it provided insight each time I read through it. ;)
I found that I didn't understand the readings so well in the beginning, but as the situation asked about began to unfold it helped me understand the card meanings. :D Especially as I read back over what I had written after a period of time.
Remember our first thought or original thought is most often our intuitive thought and right on the mark! Go with how you 'feel' sometimes, instead of your intellectual thought and see how you can work with it.
But most of all, enjoy your Tarot journey!

Just get acquainted with the cards in a way that is comfortable to you. Many will suggest focussing on one card per day, for example. Or, if you don't want it to take that long (I'm impatient, haha), you can do a few cards at a time. I think the best way is to take a card into your hands and really focus on the artwork and the energy, and see what you get out of it. Once you've done this, you might want to look through some books, or opinions on this site, to compare your vibrations (or meanings) to. It's always good to have a basic knowledge of the traditional meaning of each card, but you can't forget that intuition is ever important. What you see in your cards could be very different than what others see, and that's often a good thing. You have to learn to trust your gut.

Star Gemini,
A good beginner set helps, I learn by writing things down, that seemed to be the best way for me. I also started with the Majors, then the court cards then pips. Journal your readings.. that is a tremendous help. And of course, play with them, lots of 3 card readings.

Thank you for all your advice. But the most difficult I think is how to interpret the different cards into the questions, sometime I think the cards I draw doesn't seem like relating to the question I ask. any advice?

Don't rush it it will happen sudenely one day something clicks and you start to make the conections
I started with just the majors as all 78 seemed like to much to handle. It stayed that way for four years. It is only this year that I have started to use the whole pack and am still not fammlar with reversals.
One other thing I suggest using a simple deck rather than a themed one to start with unless you are familar with the theam eg celic so you only have one thing to learn at once

Many of us started with good teachers - if there is anyone near you who teaches tarot, you might look into a class. It can often help you to focus and not get overwhelmed by the whole 78-ness of it!
