All right, i did a search for this and didn't find anything, so i'm sorry if this has already been discussed. But i was wondering what oppinons were out there about switching the storage methods for different decks. Let me clarify. I have a scarf and a box that i use to keep the deck i work with the most. However, I've just recently recieved a deck that i'm possitive is going to be the new deck that i work with the most (it's my "FINALLY, I"VE FOUND YOU!" deck). What do you all think about switching out the decks? Using the same scarf and box for this new deck? Any reasons why this would be a bad idea?
Thanks
Justin

None what so ever. Go ahead, please don't worry about hurting the feelings of some printed cardboard. The magic is in you.

Amen to that, Marion.
Justin, if you look at some of the threads about deck storage and treatment, I think you'll find a great many people here (I hesitate to say most, but I'm thinking most) treat their decks as valuable tools, but not as semi-sentient objects of reverence. Although anyone is free to correct me, of course, if they think I've gotten this wrong!! (As if ATers need my permission to correct me :))

Oh, yes, Justin...please don't keep us Tarotholics in suspense! What's you new favorite deck? :D
Something I thought I'd bring up is that you can use the scarf for your new deck, but that might end up just being a temporary home. Since the deck 'found' you, there might also be another special box or scarf or bag that will find you someday, too. It may jump out at you somewhere and say, "Take me home to your best deck!"
Good luck with your new deck!
Peace,
Melvis

P.S. Also, when I first saw the title of this thread I thought it said "Trading Holmes", and I got myself all in a tizzy thinking, "Whyever in the world would anyone want to trade HOLMES away? What would we do without him? We would miss him terribly! Oh dear!" Oh...Trading Homes...ah...nevermind. ;)

I actually have a favorite silk bag, which is white and was great til i decided to start carrying my cards with me again. Not wanting to ruin the pretty white bag.. I swapped it out for a maroon bag, and then I swapped the cards out ... out with the old .. in with the new.. I do don't feel guilty at all.. for changing the homes or the cards. :)

This is true - absolutely. (And very well put at that :D)
But still... I like taking the trouble of finding each deck - and especially the favourites - their own special "quarters". It's not a matter of fearing to hurt a deck's feelings, it's more like... it's half the fun to make something new for a new deck.
But that has to lie in how you want to do it, not in some "rules-book" cuz that doesn't exist.
Jenny :)

That's exactly what i'm talking about. I'm not necessarily worried about hurting the decks feelings, it's just that the few decks that i have are all precious and i think they deserve their own little homes. So if i move a deck from the scarf and box out so that another deck can take it's place, then there's no where for the old deck to go (at least not right now). However, given the advice that i've gotten so far, i think i'm going to move this new deck to the "place of honor" in the box, and see if something else comes along (meaning a new box or bag for the new deck or for the old one.) Thank you all for the advice by the way. And speaking of which, the new deck that i've totally fallen for (which, by the way, is the only deck ever given to me...) is the Robin Wood Tarot. Again, thank you all!!
Love this place,
Justin

Good answer Justin.
and yes, all my decks have somewhere to live that protects them and symbolizes to me that that I regard them as helpful and a part of my life. Agreed you might want to find someplace good for the other deck.

Hi Justin! ;)
I share out my special bags with various decks. The only thing that ever comes to my mind is energy and how the old deck in the bag was used. (what type of energy it's carrying)
I like to sage (or smudge) my bags and decks when moving them around, to clear out the old energy. I don't do any rituals or say anything, I just light it up and swing the bags through the smoke.

I also thought it said that. I was busy wondering what I could trade him for, 'cos I'd love to carry Holmes around in my bag all day long!

Just do what feels right to you....haha, um I'm weird. Personally, well I only have one deck, and I bought it its own scarf and box that really suit it and I've kept them all together like that ever since. I've thought about what I would do if I got a new deck, and personally I would feel guilty switching. If I do, I'm going to get another box for the new deck. I know they're just cards, but there's a connection with me and the Hudes Tarot, the people look like they're watching me and would be upset if I swapped their home haha...
But that's just me! :)
