I'm trying something different than my old methods of reading...
Do you have a different way of reading certain decks? What are your favorite decks and methods?
For learning new decks I like the single and three-card past/present/future draws.
For Thoth-based decks, I actually like to consult booklets and my take on the pictures second. I find the pictures more abstract.
I found that I'm more familiar with Marseilles tarots first, so pictorial elements and then my take on what the numbers are in context come in second. For a three of Cups, for instance, I might remember the Empress of the majors, then the three graces in context. For the three of swords, I might think of the Empress as a mother image, then remember a kind of heartbreak scene. I'm thinking my pictures are now mixed with Rider Waite style memories, as well, so it's refreshing to get a new deck...but I'm experimenting with new ways of reading in the next few weeks...
(I'm sorry for my previous glitch: I heard startling news (U.S. Forces captured Hussain ) and my neighbor knocked on our doors a minute ago.

Mari_Hoshizaki: Thanks for sharing the links! Especially like Balsamic Moon site very much; bookmarked the site. The spreads are interesting & worth trying.
Do not know that I use different methods for different decks, but aside from using the daily card with unfamiliar decks, I tend to use 1-Card & 3-Card spreads. Those hold up well with all decks as they are concise & succinct.

In the one and only tarot class I took, the teacher used a 4-card spread for all types of questions:
. . . . . .2
1. . . . . 3
. . . . . . 4
Where 1 represents the issue or question. 2, 3, 4 represent different bits of information to consider about the issue.
I don't know if this spread has a name. The teacher was a gifted reader in other methods, too. He emphasized using our intuition in interpreting the cards, to develop our own meanings for each card.
I've found this 4-card spread to be very useful in any specific situation. Notice that it eliminates the question of time (no past/future position), which often is only our need to impose order and control on Knowing.
I work at letting go of that need, but it's a huge challenge!
