Hi,
Here's a question for you. Have you ever done a reading that has left you feeling..umm anxious, uneasy, awkward...
I just finished a reading for a friend (3rd tonight) and it left me feeling anxious. Could it be just that I am not used to doing more than just 1 at a time or something else.
I would love to hear from others on this one to make sure it's not just me going CRAZY..
Blessing,
CJ

Hi,
Some strong personality types use to bother me in that way, before. The more you do you'll see differences in readings & people. Mabee also you picked up on Their anxious energy that is not yours. Some people who have controlling personalities do this to me when I'm not aware of them.
Hope this helps!

CJ: If the discomfort occurred soon after the last reading, it may be related to the reading--were there disturbing elements in it/the cards?
If not, perhaps ye need to use grounding techniques after each reading session.

I have a friend who's energy just urks me. it feels so icky and overpowering I try to avoid reading for her because it makes me feel so uncomfortable and also because she is just going to end up being in denial about everything...but that's a whole other topic

My tarot teacher recommended having water and fire (a filled glass and a candle) between reader and querent as a barrier against uncomfortable exchanges of energy. I've only read for people I am comfortable with so I've never done that, but it may be worth a try for you?

If that person rubs you the wrong way, then it's only logical that it is difficult doing a reading for that person. After all, you are connecting with him or her on an energetic level.
I always visualize closing all connections after having done a reading. I do that automatically but if I need to do it more emphatically, I visualize that I close my chakras, as if zipping up a sleepingbag over my head. Eventually I may sprinkle some water over my head: cleansing aura. But that's only in extreme cases.

How about a crystal ball, do you think it would do the same? I have one ( don't use it) & if this would stop from negative or uneasy energy coming across the table, I would use it just for that. Anyways thanks for all the ideas on this thread!

Are you able to smudge yourself, either with white sage or champa incense after each reading?
You can also 'smudge' yourself with a crystal or calcite (Calcite wands are available at some new age shops, they are great for clearing!)
Burning candles are very clearing.
Crystal clusters are very clearing. Set on the table between you and the querent.
Wind chimes are very clearing.... I would recommend placing this over the table..... make sure the chimes are hollow....
also, if you can place a wind chime in the doorway, that would cleanse everytime it rings.
Bells are very clearing......

I'm not sure, Ros. I have a crystal ball, but I've never used it that way - I think for me crystal balls concentrate energy so I'm not sure if one would work as a protection against energy coming at me. Maybe someone with more experience of crystals could advise you on this? My teacher was pretty emphatic that fire and water was the way to go, but as I said, I've never done that. I did find it kind of soothing and very pretty when he set up a reading table with the candle and water bowl, though. Who knows - maybe it wasn't actually an energetic barrier, maybe it just calmed the querents down! :)

I find that a reading can be uncomfortable because of the information received; it's never nice to see bad news in the cards, especially if you know the person has had a hard time recently.
