wow...
For xmas (i wrote about this in a different thread near the beginning of dec.) i got my japanese exchange sister the ukiyoe tarot deck.
she absolutely loves it!
anyways, the other nite i discussed the major arcana to her, to help her understand better. the booklet that came with it was all english and her english is limited. it was sort of a challenge to me, because i am still a beginner at reading the tarot.
so anyways, the point of this thread is just to say that teaching the tarot (or ANYTHING really..) to someone who speaks a limited amount of your native language REALLY helps you remember and learn the tarot for yourself (as well as them).
=o)

Absolutely!
One of the ways to really assist learning is to teach!
And when the language needs to be kept 'simpler', even more so: the essence of the concepts, metaphors, and analogies from everyday experiences, have to be found...

I absolutely agree!
My experience is that those cards I had a hard time explaining to someone will remain forever etched in my memory. Hope I'll have to go through it with all of them - perhaps I'll find a student too?

Agree, other peoples insights are so amazing, esp. within a learning group.

I always get certain people who I know are having an issue with something or other to pick cards or numbers or animals anything to help them figure out why they are letting something bother them. I look things up, even sometimes I'll have new books or cards I haven't studied & get them to give me whatever is needed & I send it to them to read. I have learned a lot of info trying to help people or teach people about thinking on the other side of the issue or to listen to their intuition. I never know who is the teacher or the student. You know the saying "when the student is ready the teacher will arrive" it's I think 50/50 we both learn if not about the subject, about the personality.I even learn from children. The most innocent of a subject are sometimes the most intuitive.

So glad that your exchange sister likes her new deck! I agree absolutely with you about teaching and learning -- they're two sides of the same coin.
