The cost of tarot decks in Australia

I've always heard that tarot decks cost more in Australia. However, isisdownunder's post today really drove that point home. Isis mentioned that the Sacred Circle tarot deck/book set costs $76 AUS. The Canadian dollar is roughly par with the Australian, so that's about $72 CAN.

For fun, I checked on amazon canada at www.amazon.ca. The price was only $32.21 CAN plus tax. (Even before the 30 percent discount, it was only 46.01 CAN plus tax.) I don't know if it would still be a good deal or not for Australians, if one takes into account the cost of international postage and Australian customs duties and entry taxes.

Compared to amazon.ca, the price on the American site, amazon.com, is roughly 30 percent more for the same set, because amazon.com doesn't give a 30 percent discount except at a higher price threshold.

Thus, for people buying from a third country such as Australia, amazon.ca could sometimes be a better deal than amazon.com.

P.S.: I'm curious. Are the high prices just for things tarot, or is it for books generally (e.g., literature, computer books, etc.)?

I saw it on overstock.com for 19$ and change!

From past experience, many decks seem to be very much on a par with the same decks available at their RRP, plus postage, from other countries.

What we seem unable to really get here are the vast discounts seemingly regularly available for numerous decks in a variety of places.

Also, quite a few decks are seemingly very difficult to obtain here (even though many shops carry a reasonable range).

This is especially so for decks not coming out of either USGames or LoScarabeo, whose catalogues are usually distributed to shops. Supply by wholesalers to some extant depends on requests by retailers... many of whom have poor Tarot knowledge.

It should also be mentioned that some decks also seem to be cheaper than ordering them overseas and shipped - especially popular ones... though people living in more remote areas may have decks a little over-priced.

Through isisdownunder I found this link to an on-line bookshop in Sydney which has an extensive range of books and decks at very reasonable prices but the postage adds to it: http://www.adyar.com.au/

It is the Sydney equivalent to the TS Bookship in Melbourne which does not have quite so great a range of tarot decks I think.

Rusty, on Friday the Australian dollar gor to 74 cents US, the highest it has been for ages, so things might be a little better now ~ for a short time anyway.
