which card "visits" you most often?

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 15 Dec 2003, and now archived in the Forum Library.

i was wondering what card(s) (if any) come up numerous times in your own readings?

i see alot of the knight of wands reversed. i think its because i am confused and have no idea what i wanna do with my life, whether i should go to college, and if i do, for what.

anyways, if you do have the same card coming up, share the reason why you think it's there.

I think there are some cards that you will always resonate with.
When I shuffle, the Hermit quite often jumps out at me, we are good friend's and he is the first card that ever came to me in meditation/dreams.
Page of Cups seems fall out as well recently, since I got married. I think that's a girl waiting for me to give birth to her.
In readings I have had the Nine of Wands in my spreads for 15 years and I think I always will. Also the Chariot (Cancer), Wheel of Fortune (my personality card), the Magician (my soul card), World, Fool, Death, Aces....I am for ever changing my direction in life and new things come in quite often.
Gosh, I could go on, but these are the ones that first come to mind :)
I use RWS :DXTAX:D

the card that comes up most often in my personal readings is IX hermit. it's my birth card and means a lot to me personally. sometimes he shows up reversed (especially lately) and it makes me think that there is a need for reevaluation of my identity in some way.

in readings for others, the card that appears most often by far is the ace of cups. i think so many people have beautiful ideas about love and what it can be. the crystal tarot shows a large chalice which has a city built on it. i think so many people dream of a love to build a life on, and that when they sit down for a reading, that is the hope they put into the idea of having their "fortune told" (whatever that means)

Star Spirit  16 Dec 2003
The Hermit is also my card (9 is my all around number), but he doesnt show up too much. I get the Page of Wands a lot, I think because this card represents my boyfriend to me. Lately I am tending to have the Hierophant and Death come up a lot in all my readings, for myself and others. It's hard to think of cards that come up a lot, it's easier for me to think of cards that rarely come up. For example, I almost never get the Two of Cups, Seven of Swords, or Five of Pentacles....or any of the Kings, really. Not sure what that would mean.

Maan  16 Dec 2003
For me this depends...a few months ago it was the hanged man who kept reapering in my spreads. At the moment its the two of pentacles.
Its just resonates with the theme of my life at that moment in time

This does change periodically and go in cycles.. but I often see court cards from the Cups and Pentacles, quite often!!

Also, the 4 and 7 of cups lately.

Siwan  16 Dec 2003
Hi,

The Knight of Cups seems to appear in my spreads quite a bit, always reversed.

WolfSpirit  16 Dec 2003
I often get one or a couple of cards visiting me in certain periods.
One that is with me a lot is the knight of pentacles, I guess he is telling me to take care of practical matters and have patience.
Luckily I also get more exciting cards !

Sulis  16 Dec 2003
Queen of Cups

Love and light

Jewel-ry  16 Dec 2003
Two and Three of Wands are coming up a lot for me at the moment. I havn't really thought of its significance yet!

J :)

Chronata  16 Dec 2003
The Magician and the Wheel of Fortune follow me throughout my life. Funny, I just found out that they are my soul and personality cards, so now I am not surprised in the least.

Lately, for the past few years, it has been the Hanged Man keeping me company.
He's actually a better companion than some.

Tallarico  16 Dec 2003
I never have the same card come up. I have no repeaters. Does this signify anything?

TemperanceAngel  16 Dec 2003
Perhaps your repeating cards haven't been significant for you to notice yet? XTAX

Bean Feasa  17 Dec 2003
Maybe you're a really balanced person, Tallarico - I reckon the repeat cards are trying to get us to correct some imbalance.
For me its 10 of Wands (bigtime). 5 of Cups a lot too, 5 of Wands, and 8 of Swords. Oh dear!

destinyawaitsme  17 Dec 2003
For me it's been Strength....gotta love that patience.

Alex  17 Dec 2003
I used to think there were such cards, but after a year of statistically-oriented survey (I actually counted which cards came up for me how many times) I have found no correlation whatsoever between the cards I thought showed up frequently and the others. The frequency was very close for all cards.

Some cards we tend to ignore more often than others, and there's sometimes a card that speaks to us that sticks out in readings. A lot of it is but impression.

Alex.

Vita-morte  18 Dec 2003
I've done readings for myself and it seems the Queen of Swords comes out A LOT. Then again, for my friend Kat it's Temperance. Maybe some of the cards do just show up because we have more respect for them or connect better with them, but I really don't like the Temperance card!

Tallarico  19 Dec 2003
LOL, Actually, I *should* be getting 3 of Swords and The Hermit!

Inana  19 Dec 2003
Lately im getting a lot King of Wands, Judgement and Ace of Cups.

The "repeating" cards go changing in cycles... it depends on whats going on at the moment.

13thFaeChylde  20 Dec 2003
Lately I've been visited by the Star, the High Priestess and 10 of Swords more than once.

KelarSkye  22 Dec 2003
Some cards that have visited me repeatedly in the past year are the 9 of Pentacles (she was early in the year)and the Ace of Swords (end of summer). I also get the Knight of Swords (actually many swords, but the knight most recently) when I do a reading that a certain friend/love interest of mine is involved in (he is a Gemini so it fits).

I really love the Empress card and have NEVER gotten her in a reading. I will be truly excited when I finally do. Actually, I think the Wheel has turned up a few times recently, and I used to never, ever get that in anyone's reading.

Tallarico  23 Dec 2003
After I posted that I never get the same card; a funny thing happened. For the daily card draw, I have gotten for the last six days:

The High Priestess (rx)
The Queen Of Pentacles
The Ace of Swords
The Queen of Pentacles(rx)
The High Priestess
and guess what I pulled today...
The Ace of Swords!

I shuffle the deck very well each time! Interesting...
added: As I have thought about these cards, they represent exactly what is going on with me now!!

isthmus nekoi  23 Dec 2003
The Tower. For a period of 3 years, it came roughly 25% of the time. Judgment was also pretty strong. Change and destruction? Bring it on.

I also find absent cards, or infrequent ones telling. The Empress is the rarest major for myself, go figure!

mamm1  23 Dec 2003
I do not read my cards for anyone eles so my reading are several months apart. However my #10 card in the Celtic cross is always a Pentacle of 10-King. I've often wondered why as I am not finacialy well to do. Just a modest middle income class gal I am. Maybe I am not reading this right as I kind of see the 10 as eutopiea (also cant spell :) any ideas?

My thought exactly.

Recently XIX Sun comes up a lot, for me. About two months ago, XXI World seemed to come up in a lot of readings.

This has happened a lot through the years that I've used Tarot. I'll go for a while without noticing any repeaters, and then a sort of theme will develop for a period of time, with repeating card(s).

Forgot to mention XV Devil visited me three times in the past three days, while I was planning to visit my dad (he's a Capricorn). As soon as I saw it start coming up, I knew it had to do with him. Saw him yesterday. It will be interesting to see if it comes up again soon. (For some reason I totally forgot to draw daily cards today!)

WalesWoman  26 Dec 2003
seems that I almost always have one wand or another, usually 7 or 9 Wands
Pentacles usually a 3, 8, 9 or Queen, but mostly 8, it's becoming a real chum
Hierophant , Hermit and Justice seem to be regulars of late, I was tripping over Strength and the Devil a few months ago
2 and 10 Cups, the Queen has been making frequent visitations in the past couple weeks, figured it had a lot to do with Christmas
3, 6,7, 9 Swords come up more often than not, if a sword comes up.
Mostly it depends on what is going on, they seem to reflect my mental and emotional state, or be one step ahead of it.

amyel  28 Dec 2003
For me, the Devil comes up alot. This used to confuse me a great deal. But when I recognized that the Devil is the shadow of the Lovers card - my "personal" card - it started to make some sense, although, as my shadow, it is still not the easiest for me to grasp.

Lately, the Queen of Wands & King of Swords come up alot, which makes sesne to me given my current situation. Oh, and the 6 of cups....

Jypsie  29 Dec 2003
I see the Nine of Pentacles a lot, and the Queen of Cups.

Tallarico  01 Jan 2004
Hmmm...During the last 2 weeks of this year, I have pulled the Ace of Swords 4 times and it was pulled for me in a reading by Indigo Rose... This card wants my attention!
I did a search and came across a really nice post in jmd's thread called "Ace of Swords". The post was by MeeWah. MeeWah, I hope you don't mind me pasting it here. Here is it.

Aside from the qabalistic references (which I am not yet familiar with), this is based on Aces representing the raw essence of their elements; unmitigated energy & power. Please forgive any error in extrapolation.

Within the Aces can be read the story of creation.

That is, Fire (Yod) represented by Ace-Wands is The Will, The Source, the great initiator or of the first spark of Life; the Father; the first or the active, male principle.

Water (first Heh) represented by Ace-Cups is the Great Womb, the primordial sea; the Mother; the passive, female principle (or co-creator).

Air (Vav) represented by Ace-Swords is The Word, the First Breath; thought or that which precedes manifestation; the bestowing of knowledge (light) that pierces ignorance (darkness of the deep); the seed thought of the Father; The Child; another active principle created in the Father's Image.

Earth represented by Ace-Pentacles is earth, the physical planet; the form, the body, into which is received the seed of intelligence; life incarnated (second Heh).

I think I need to start studying this card. I do feel anew!
However, this probably isn't the thread for *that* discussion.

Just thought I'd post this interesting info.

Kimber  03 Jan 2004
There was a period of almost two years where I worked regularly with the Sacred Path Cards in lieu of tarot....I don't know why. It just felt right for whatever reason. I kept reading log sheets, and there was not a *single* reading I did for myself during that period (about one reading per week) where the Burden Basket card didn't show up. The key word for this card is "self reliance"....sometimes the ole cosmic 2x4 whacks you repeatedly in the head until you pay attention. :c) I remember laying out the cards for one particular reading, and I was overjoyed to get to the last card and find that the Burden Basket hadn't shown up....until I picked up the single card that had fallen out as I shiffled and laid out the last card. Yep, you know what it was!!! I haven't worked with those cards in a long time now; I seem to cycle through phases where I am drawn to different decks.

Kachua  03 Jan 2004
Recently I've been consistently getting 5 of Disks, 5 of Swords, 8 of Cups and Queen of Disks. I've been going through emotional upheavel lately and I think the Queen of Disks is kind of screaming at me to take care of myself because I've been highly neglecting that lately.

As for Major Arcana, Emperor and Empress seem to be showing up a whole lot. Can't make heads or tails out of why that is though.

Oh... Judgement too..

snuffy  03 Jan 2004
hrumm, the hermit likes to play games with me. as i'm shuffling and accidently take a peek at which card's on the bottom, it's always the hermit. always! he's a fun guy though, really, i swear.
