Can the cards tell you someone's name?

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 19 Jan 2004, and now archived in the Forum Library.

Someone I work with came in today and said she had her cards read yesterday. It was her works Christmas bash (she also works in a hotel and they have their Christmas celebration afterwards).

She said the Tarot reader was very accurate and gave her names of family. Apparently the reader was able to tell her that her grandmother (who was no longer alive BTW) was in the room and that her name was Beryl.

Now, the thing I am curious about is how can this be done from Tarot cards. I'm assuming she must have been a medium as well as tarot reader. But, can this be done with the cards, and if so, how?

I'd say the woman was more of a medium if she was telling her stuff like that. I don't ever get even close to names when I read the cards. I might see something about someone's relative, but not specific names.

miss_apples  19 Jan 2004
No you cant get that simply from tarot cards. Honestly I dont think theres any power in tarot cards, the power is in the reader and the cards are just a tool. She probably, as you said, was a medium or she has good contact with her spirit guides.

Diana  19 Jan 2004
If I were you, I'd try and find out the Tarot reader's name and phone them to ask how they did it.

I reckon she was psychic. However, with a stretch of imagination, I could imagine it would be possible to make a "convention" with one's cards that they spell out the name of someone.

I asked her if she knew who it was but .....well she was at the Christmas do and there was a magician! and dancing and loads of drink etc etc... "she told me her name but I can't remember" she said (while holding her head!!)

Sounds like a good do...... I don't know, but I really don't like tarot reading being lumped in with a magician and entertainment and people (who are a bit worse for wear) having their reading - it kind of makes a mockery of it.

Moonbow,

It sounds to me as though the information she received in terms of names, etc, came from an outside energetic-source.

The source of this information could have been from the energetic-vibrations surrounding the individual for which she was reading. For example, perhaps she was reading their aura or some other such thing. Another example of this, would be psychometry, where one holds the object which belongs to another and reads from the energy attached to that object.

Another source may have been from a spirit-energy. This would then lead one to the assumption that the woman may be a medium.

In my opinion, I feel that the use of tarot can open one's intuitive and psychic skills so that flashes such as names, places, and faces can occur, and thus provide further information to the querent. But I do not feel that the tarot alone can spell out someone's name.

Yes Centaur, this is what I think too. Its interesting that this person was particularly close to her grandmother, and I think the reader probably picked up energy, memories etc from her subconscious.

It is a very interesting thought. I know of many people who psychometry in conjunction with tarot in order to become more in tune with the querent. But then there are those very fascinating individuals who appear to be able to read directly from the energies of another human-being. Fascinating stuff. I wonder if this woman can tell whether the energies are coming from spirit or from the other person's energy-body.

Let me see if this makes sense. The cards tell you only what you believe they can tell you. It's like an internet admin. not believing he can set up a server. If he doesn't believe he can succeed
at setting up a server then he won't bother even if he does have the necessary abilities. Hope that made sence.

(I mispelled "sense" on purpose)

Diana  27 Jan 2004
This thread has been hovering in the back of my mind since Moonbow* started it.

I'm going to do a little experiment. If Moonbow* would like to be the guinea-pig, that would be fun, if not, someone else can.

I'm going to assign letters to my Tarot cards, and try and see if they come up with a name.

Are you game, Moonbow*? Just tell me who I must try and guess the name of, and I'll try. Perhaps it should be someone you are close to, preferably a family member.

I have doubts as to whether it will work, but it will be fun trying.

Moonbow*  27 Jan 2004
 Yeah yeah yeah..... I wanna play....

Right here goes...Right... let me see..... hmmmmmm..... how about my mum..... OK what do the cards say her name is Diana?

TemperanceAngel  27 Jan 2004
This is really interesting, you guys, I can't wait to see the outcome!
Diana you may come up with a magical formula for us all :D

Diana  27 Jan 2004
Great! :)

I'll do it tomorrow morning. It's late now and I want to do this experiment in a serious fashion when I'm not tired, and also figure out a logical way to assign the letters to the cards. I'll post my results by tomorrow evening.

Hi Moonbow,

I know I never received any names or impressions of names coming directly from my cards when I did read professionally... but for 1 out of 5 clients, definite names and places would just suddenly pop into my mind either visually, verbally or both, and I would go ahead and say them. The client was always quite taken aback and would say in a startled voice, "You're right! How did you know that?" I believe I was tuned into these people so well that we were on what I call the same Psychic wavelength, therefore, picking up such details would be much easier than when you're not as aligned with the client. It could also have been a case of their Guides communicating the info via my Guides. :-) Either way, the message came through loud and clear.

Joy to you,
Maralee

Not with my system, anyway.

ros  28 Jan 2004
I do not have the patience to try this but I have an idea for you all! What if you gave the numbers 1-9 letters. Pull your cards & then made a name out of all the cards you pulled.Like Scrabble!

1-a,j,s

2-b,k,t

3-c,l,u

4-d,m,v

5-e,n,w

6-f,o,x

7-g,p,y

8-h,q,z

9-i,r

Any number over 10 will be added together as a single digit.
e.g. The World XX1=21=2+1=3 so if you pull The World that would be a letter c,l or u. All suits are their number, 10=1 page=11=2, knight=12=3, queen=13=4, King=14=5
You could pull 3 cards for luck & use the letter for the cards you pull.Take all the letters & play scrabble.

If you get two 6's & a 7 someone's name may be foxy. LOL
O.k. no more patience. Just an idea if anyone wanted to try to play with this idea.

Agathe  28 Jan 2004
Ros,
did you come up with this yourself? AMAZING!!!!

Blessings,
Agathe

ros  28 Jan 2004
Yes, I don't know where my mind is today????

I was just thinking about this post & it would almost be like a
"Scrabble Ouija"

Must I get help or what?
LOL

Moonbow*  28 Jan 2004
Ros, you do make me laugh, you are always so cheerful and full of ideas. But your post has reminded me of something. I have the Quest Tarot - that has letters of the alphabet on the cards. I'm gonna have a little play over the next week and see what happens. ;)

Diana, I'm a bit disappointed! :( I was giving alot of good vibes to you last night, I was sending them over the English Channel, through France and all the way to Lake Geneva. Was I going in the wrong direction or something?

Moonbow*

HOLMES  28 Jan 2004
mary elizabeth (is what i get eheh ) .

actually there is a possiblity i was thinking off,
using the hebrew letters one could come up with almost a name couldnt' they if they put down a few major arcana together ?

it could work with english i think by doing 1 to 21 then 1 to 5.

i was also thinking of apply 16 court cards some aphabets,
and let see 26 plus 26 makes 52 ?
once could in theory use the let say the decantes wheel and go 1 to 26 and back again
then where the aces are , give them the vowels,
and where the court cards give them the providence of the three letters they cover..

it would be like ouja system i think developed in the quest tarot ,
(i havne't tested it for i dont' have it yet _

TemperanceAngel  28 Jan 2004
I think her first or second name starts with an 'A'...
Anne? Anna?

Moonbow*  29 Jan 2004
Oh great, 20 questions now! Sorry Holmes and TA both wrong. I'll try the vibes thing with you both when I get to bed tonight! Will it reach to Australia?

Keep trying everyone, I'm enjoying this, I'll be seeing her tonight if we aren't snowed in so I'll show her this thread

lark  29 Jan 2004
Constance?
Lynn?

Moonbow*  29 Jan 2004
Nope Lark, I feel bad now, someone must get it.

M*

Diana  29 Jan 2004
I tried another system. Her name starts with "J" according to my cards. Is it June?

Moonbow*  29 Jan 2004
No sorry Diana, now ...... concentrate........... here it comes............
its.............* I'm sitting here with my fingers on my temples (when I'm not typing)*

M*

Hey I just realised something Diana, I'm saying both of her names, you're not far off with one of them!!!! here goes again......

lark  29 Jan 2004
Beverly Jane?

Moonbow*  29 Jan 2004
Sorry Lark, please don't give up though. It would be interesting to know what method people use too. Or don't you want to give your secrets away!!!

M*

lark  29 Jan 2004
I'm playing scrabble with Ros's numbers but I think I'd have better luck tuning into your psychic vibs!!! :D

TemperanceAngel  29 Jan 2004
Louise?
Does it start with C or L?
XTAX

Moonbow*  30 Jan 2004
Sorry TA

But, Diana and Lark have been very close. Infact Lark has the sylables right too so maybe I'm not saying it clearly enough in my 'message' to you. Tell me when you all give up and I will tell you her name but after Diana's idea I thought it would give people something to try with their cards.

Me, I'm having no luck with the Quest either. I got Georgie to think of a name and got the cards to spell it out, and came up with nothing, although I will keep trying because Georgie came up with her own use for the letters on the deck and I think she may have something. (don't you just hate it when children connect better than you do?....)

Moonbow*

Diana  11 Feb 2004
We still don't know Moonbows* mum's name.

Moonbow*  11 Feb 2004
Well, I kind of feel like I should give you all another try...........})

Like I said Lark was close with syllables, and Diana was close with the second name.

Okay, Okay, its...................... Patricia, Jean

Moonbow*

Now do you realise how close you were???? :)

Shall we do another???
